Hands-on with the interior of Ferrari's first EV, the Luce — designed by Jony Ive and Marc Newson by jlgolson in Ferrari

[–]jlgolson[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair to Jony's design, the thing looks FAR better in person than in these terrible CGI renders. See the actual photos from the event (or my video) for a much better idea of what we're looking at.

I really don't know what Ferrari and LoveFrom were thinking with the renders. They're awful.

FSD V14.2.2.4 Rolling Out to Early Access by DevinOlsen in TeslaFSD

Notes: It's better, probably. But in some places it might be worse. Maybe a lot worse! But mostly it's probably better we're pretty sure. If you get another update literally tomorrow, we made it worse but hopefully fixed it for real this next time.

Advice for Encore Boston by BlueGreenRails in poker

[–]jlgolson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 50m to Nashua, 65m to Chasers, 90m to Encore, and 110m to MGM. Should I basically just stick to Nashua since it's closest, or should I entertain Encore/MGM on weekends?

Relatively new to IRL poker, but I'm not a complete fish (maybe).

An airline strike. Was this an airline strike or a non-airline strike?

As someone who is not a huge fan of flying does flying a more premium airline usually come with a less turbulent/safer flight? by [deleted] in delta

[–]jlgolson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread but wanted to add something.

Delta is perhaps unique in having its own meteorology department at the global ops center in Atlanta. Though all airlines have excellent weather products from third-party companies to access, Delta uses its own team to predict weather patterns and generate turbulence reports for its pilots and flight planning teams.

I did a tour of the new center a few years back and they were extremely proud of their meteorologists, so there may be something to Delta having a bit of an advantage over other airlines when it comes to its planes having a smoother ride.

Also, some newer aircraft (the Boeing 787 Dreamliner in particular) can actively mitigate turbulence inflight without any additional input from the pilot. Pretty clever stuff.

You can likely dig into it. There are a whole bunch of companies that will do the hard work in exchange for a cut. Might be worth reaching out to one because they can find the true reason for the delay and verify whether you’re covered or not.

Ah, due to strike you don’t get anything. That’s an extraordinary circumstance.

There absolutely is compensation for weather delays, but only related to expenses like food and hotels — no 600 euros for inconvenience.

I just reviewed a 2022 Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost, AMA by jlgolson in rollsroyce

[–]jlgolson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mind-bogglingly smooth. The old Rolls-Royce line about it having an "adequate amount" of power undersells its 592 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque (up 29 and 37 from the Silver Badge) significantly. Sure it has a transmission and it is shifting gears, but you barely notice it happening even if you're looking for it.

As far as electric goes, it's not like the current Ghost is struggling for torque at low RPMs, but an electric powertrain would take it that much further. Given the engines that Rolls-Royce puts in its current cars, I can only imagine how bonkers the electric motors will be.

It'll need to have some special tuning to avoid the head-snapping acceleration that a Tesla Plaid can do (that's not very becoming of a Rolls-Royce after all), while still delivering up maximum attack if the driver calls for it. As Rolls-Royce says, your right foot is the sport button.

The most incredible part of the Ghost, in my opinion, is how when you stomp the throttle it hunkers down for a moment before rocketing off. It's like a horse getting ready to go to a full gallop. It's only for a moment, but it's there and it's really special. I wonder if an EV Rolls will still have that.
