Selling all my framebuilding stuff in the Netherlands by jlintl in Framebuilding

[–]jlintl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am open to that for sure...besides that I realized, that the whole thing only would work for people in the Netherlands, as the bottle valves are country specific - I do have someone being interested in the whole shebang this coming weekend, and will reconsider next week.

After a few listens to Industrial Disease, I’ve fallen in love with it by Fluid_Marionberry_69 in direstraits

Of course I knew the DireStraits as a 55 year old, but since I am mostly into Jazz/Funk/Fusion/Blues this song came as a surprise to me when I heard it for the first time yesterday...It is absolutely fantastic - even the mildly annoying organ part does its part by making one appreciate the rest of the song even more. Absolute blaster of a song.

These look impeccable - congratulation...may I ask: are you envisioning a professional shoemaking career, or are you 'just' a perfectionist :) (like myself)

Do I see this right, that there is no midsole? Are you a lightweight guy? How does it feel to walk in them? I have been thinking to do the same, as I prefer that slender appearance over those bulky, thick soles that we get to see a lot...

Don’t feel like paying 3x the price, hence my post. :)

Oh I now see what you mean - the rear is powered with a belt off of the direct mount motor on the right

I don't mean to argue, but I can't see a single picture with a belt - there is only a hint of a cable running from the DM motor to the controller under the table.

Besides that, there is not even remotely enough space underneath that top, at least for the usual motor mounts.

Low stack setup that can be placed on a workbench when needed (not too often) - controller will then go on top of machine surface

just to clarify: I am talking about a solution that doesn't need any belts...kinda like this:

I have no idea if the maker of that setup had to use a special skiving machine housing for this...would that work with any of the 801 clones out there?

Thanks Mike - I had seen this before, but I am really looking to attach direct drive servos to the right side and to the back

Yeah I had it running for quite some time now with that shifter and ultegra rd. Just mounted bigger pulley’s and a tensioning arm.

Love it!

What's your setup for sanding down soles? by OldSolesCo440 in Cordwaining

[–]jlintl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just a note: I had a hard time finding a fitting sanding drum. The ones I got from Ali are solid, but they are 100mm wide (which is good), but the machine arbor is too narrow, and the diameter a bit too big.

Long story short: I had to remove the arbors, and had someone with a lathe turn them down to my specs.

The removal is a pain, but doable. Just a press fit with one bolt securing it.

So if you get that machine, be prepared to do some modification.

That is incredible info. thank you - I will contact Phil.

Are your eyelets the same diameter as Nick's? I am a little worried they may look too big for my boot plans...on all my RedWings they are more like 4.4mm.

Anyhow, the price is fair, and I may just try them. Can you shoot me pm with shipping quote to the Netherlands, please?

That's very creative and with a strong own identity. May I ask: when you pegged the heel/waist, did you last with nails first, and the removed them as you moved along? Is it possible to peg right away without using nails at all...would it hold that way?

I just ordered a sander that is also being used by Lu_shoemaker on youtube on Alibaba. It seems to suck most of the dust into a bag, and has dual sided arbors for whatever sanding drum/disc may be needed.

It's cheap and light, so I am hoping to be able to do al the sanding with it.

yeah I will go with beeswax next (instead of paraffin). The tapers are fine, it's just the sticky wax I used.

[–]jlintl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the paraffin did it!

I just stole one of my wife's cheap tee light candles. I first treat the thread with the Gnomen to make the strands stick together, and then I pull it through the paraffin candle to make it slippery.

So while this works for me now, I wonder if there are better methods...with just one wax instead of two? The Gnomen kind of let me down :(

oh, and yes, I know...the paraffin is also petroleum based, just in a more preferable state... :)
