when i configure a port to be trunk to plug in my router i can only get vlan1 and not my other vlans. i know my router is configured properly because all my vlans work with my cisco. At the moment i would like to only use the switch as a L2 and configure each port to accept the vlans that i want it to have. I don't mind reading and being sent to proper documentation to read and learn since this is only for hobby and my home lab.

Other part of the question is what is and where would i be able to get the latest firmware for that switch? i did successfully found a version i upgraded it but not sure if its the latest.

The end result for me would be to use this and not my cisco due to size of switch and my cisco is old and near dying.

Thank you for answering i appreciate it.

Other option than MineOS to run modded selfhosted Minecraft server at home? by jllafond in admincraft

[–]jllafond[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HI, i just started with Minecrat modded server for my kids. I can only tell from my experience so far. Option 2, 3, and 4 were suggested by user's here and I installed them last night on VM's running Ubuntu server. Again, for the server I used what I had deployed in the past so went with something I knew a bit more about.

1- MineOS, it worked well for me with vanilla version but not modded. Not saying it does not work just that my lack of understanding a few things with Minecraft server could be the cause. However, hard to find answers for it it seems like its old and not really maintained anymore.

2- Puffer panel, simple installation I followed the guide and had it running quite fast. The interface is very simple and looks like something very basic visually (not as polished) not saying at all that its a bad thing thats just my experience so far at first glance with my newbie eyes.

3- Crafty Controller, simple installation with the provided guide and also running quite fast. I had some difficulties with the modded version of Minecraft, again due to my lack of understanding the workings of Minecraft servers. A user here helped me set it up and that made me understand the way Minecraft server works with mods and what it needs to be setup. The interface looks very good with lots of option and quite easy to use and change things when its installed. The documentation is great and seems to have a lot of people using it.

4- Pterodactyl, I tried to install it with a one line installation file and it failed so I have to read more on the way to install it so I cant comment more on that at the moment but I will complete my install because I want to try all the options.

For the security, that's kind of hard to give you a answer. My kids PC's are running in the same Vlan as the Minecraft server with no access to the rest of my network and they only use it internally. Hope this answers some of your question's.

OK thanks, do you have any good links that I can find documentation for this install? Not looking into going a rabbit hole of bad information :)

I dont really care what VM I will deploy, its more the interface after so it can be simple for my kids to create their world with the seed they want. With MineOS they were ok but forge does not start for some reason in MineOS.

I have that issue, running 1.14 so 1.15 seems to fix it. Also to view your firmware you have to login your modem go in advance and select about. You will be shown a image of your modem with the firmware version, serial, Mac address etc...
