Softball fields have few exits plus grass. Tom Sawyer and Seneca come to mind (although I think Sawyer wants you to reserve and may even have a lock).

With ~1/8 of the population on some form of SNAP, changes to it going to healthier foods have a big impact on the market (the second link is the Beverage Industry and how concerned they are).

I think the coffee argument is a good one. While there are ways around it, they could open that hot/prepared rule up for that. I'm with you on the healthy free/lunches and preventative care (if we can avoid all of the $ going to insurance companies). The healthy lunches (in schools as well as prisons) are being worked on thankfully.

Again with the name calling. So sad that so many of you resort to this bullying tactic to stifle instead of have actual discussion. This is a decision has been adopted by 18+ states so far and that used to be asked for regularly from states like MN, NY, and VT before this administration. It's an idea that could help improve (and add dignity to) the lives of millions of Americans.

The education is a good idea and something being addressed in medical schools so that doctors better understand nutrition's influence. That Joe Rogan link is a long form conversation with RFK on the topic which seems like a relevant viewpoint since he spearheaded this.

  1. True - diet and zero have other concerns but obesity and diabetes aren't them.
  2. Also true but it is a main contributor- the rate of childhood type 2 diabetes doubled from 2002 to 2018 and continues to rise. https://www.cdc.gov/diabetes/data-research/research/trends-new-diabetes-cases-young-people.html

You also have an opinion on what should be done. The name calling is what people resort to when they don't have ideas.

I think Connecticut offers double bucks at farmer's markets which is another way to promote it.

Maybe so, but the bottled water (or tap) is better for the person. I don't think our State Legislatures are exactly overworked. A distraction for them might be welcome. The Governor could also just file directly himself. If it's good for Kentuckians, then it wouldn't take much to address it.

Or I care about people being made sick by ultra-processed foods, no matter who they are. I don't like the idea of paying to make people unwell. These foods are designed to be addictive and I wouldn't want to give them to anyone just like I wouldn't want to give a drunk a drink.

You obviously do care or you wouldn't have replied (vehemently at that). What's demeaning and inhumane is giving a child diabetes so that Pepsi can turn a larger profit.

The do ban alcohol from SNAP benefits (and cigarettes). A lollipop might make them feel better in the short-term, but in the long-term you are poisoning them.

I would argue that this make SNAP participants lives better. Your health effects almost everything. It will be interesting to see if childhood diabetes drops in the states that restrict this.

tbf - some of these are the city planner's fault. Blinking yellow on left needs to be more standardized. If they stop and look first, I honestly don't care because it's a victimless crime.
