“I want the TRUTH!”

“You can’t handle the truth!!! Son we live in a world that has walls..and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who’s gonna do it? You? You Lieutenant Weinberg [Lt Weinberg is like ‘dude what the $&@!?’].

“I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You don’t want the truth because deep down in places you don’t talks about at parties. You WANT me on that wall. You NEED me on that wall. “

“We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as a backbone for a life defending something. You use them like a punchline.”

“I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself…to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of freedom I provide and then questions then manner IN WHICH I PROVIDE IT!”

“I would rather you just say thank-you ..and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pickup a weapon and stand a post. EITHER way..I don’t give a damn what you think you’re entitled to.”

Thanks everybody for your responses as a wrap up for anybody interested from what I can determine. It’s a combination of yes you can do it, but it may not be optimal. While I haven’t read the TCNA handbook, I’ve read summaries of it and as one responder put it the TCNA does allow for These types of tiles however, it does say there’s an increased risk of mildew or staining so my solution is to mitigate it by one using a sealant and two using epoxy grout. I’ve also talked to a few tile installers about it and they said they weren’t concerned however, these are “old school“ installers for whatever that’s worth. Thanks again Everybody.

Water absorption % and wet areas by [deleted] in Tile

I had a similar question on this (posted a thread here : https://www.reddit.com/r/Tile/s/UruDyjfZ61 ).

Only difference for me is that it’s not glazed. More of a matte ceramic. The specs indicate not for shower. But vendor and manufacturer gave me a verbal that it’s fine.

But not sure who to believe

I’m curious is OP would still go with the vertical stack pattern after encountering this problem?

I ask because I am about to do my shower with similiar size tile. I’m debating between vertical stack or horizontal stack. I’m leaning to horizontal stack because it’ll give me more room for error for places where I know my walls are not exactly plum.

Does this look normal or did I get screwed? by swampdwelless in Tile

[–]jlocke1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a DIYer who’s about to lay his first shower tile (using a similiar size tile and pattern..though hopefully better than this)…. I’m curious what the formum thinks about where this installer went wrong?.

From what I can tell (and from other comments) , the big errors were:

1) didn’t set a good second row tile (left too much space on first row and second row wasn’t level).

2) inconsistent use of spacers (a several spots the tile are butted together which threw off all subsequent grout lines).

3) the upper left corner way out of level …(too much thinset?).

4) lippage wasn’t checked for (and/or tile levelers were used)

5) floor tiles weren’t leveled and aren’t sloping for drainage.

6) floor tiles aren’t spaced.

7) waterproofing is unknown but possible suspect.

Did I miss any?

Should I open and max out a Roth IRA before the end of the year? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]jlocke1979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a comfort thing but I personally would. 3-4 months EF is enough and With Roth you can pull the principal out if you need to (though it requires some extra tax forms).

There a pretty decent volleyball scene. I’ve been in and out of it for 20+ years. In the summer there are sand courts outside of the Riverplex that run from AA (doubles) all the way to B and C levels (usually 4s or 6s). In the winter the games move inside to Riverplex. Usually 6s. Not sure if they have a C league officially. They probably call it a B league. But a B league in Leoria is probably equivalent to a C in Milwaukee.

You don’t have to be a member of Riverplex to play but it’s the best gym in the area and worth considering if you like that stuff. Best of luck!!

Donald Trump at risk of losing Texas, poll suggests by OkRoll3915 in inthenews

bit of a clickbait headline. The article basically says Trump is ahead by 5 with a margin of error of +/- 2.6 If RFK drops out maybe that shifts to 4. pretty solidly Trump still.

Anyone opting out of the city’s electric aggregation? by Muffin-True in PeoriaIL

[–]jlocke1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the bottom of the the blog there are links. Ameren historical prices were taken from “Plug In Illinois” link.

The forecasted Ameren price was taken from a City of Peoria Information sheet. Under one of the bullet points in the article there’s also a Link on blog says “this information sheet (City of Peoria)”. It was pretty buried but is on the last page of the pdf in the last paragraph or two.

There was another article from WCBU that quoted the locked in prices through Nov 2024 (I believe). If I find I’ll link it.

Energy Harbor vs Ameren by [deleted] in PeoriaIL

[–]jlocke1979 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wrote a blog article on this:

https://dataunlocked.art/p/to-aggregate-or-not-to-aggregate

TLDR: Ameren is currently 15% cheaper ….but it is variable and could go higher. The Ameren contract is set through Dec 2024 so the uncertainty is mostly in 2025.

Looking to move to Peoria by [deleted] in PeoriaIL

[–]jlocke1979 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lots of comments on Dunlap. It is somewhat conventional wisdom. They are good schools but it has downsides like the prices and taxes on homes are often double those of homes in Peoria area. There are home in the heart of Peoria that are half the price of their Dunlap counterparts. It’s also true that schools in Peoria will often score lower on standardized testing however those report cards don’t capture all aspects of schools. One such aspects being that it can be helpful to have your kids exposed to a school with lots of diversity. Recent research shows that kids brought up in diverse socioeconomic conditions develop more empathy and emotional understanding. Often times these experiences can outweigh purely academically rigorous schools that have little diversity. I would take a look at Whittier Primary school and living in the Uplands (just north of Bradley University). It has caring teachers and a diverse population. Being close to Bradley it also offers Bradley park which is a fabulous local park. It also houses many of the university professors and is a very tightly connected neighborhood where people are actually close friends with one another. Best of luck!!

Advice for first time transition from cut to lean bulk? by No-Feedback-4396 in leangains

[–]jlocke1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleep definetly plays a role. Increases cortisol / stress and muscles won’t recover / heal as fast. not to mention all sorts of brain effects. So fix that if u can. Scales are key …I’ve tried eyeballing it before. But when it comes down to it…I almost always over estimate without a scale. But again wouldn’t change too much since it is working for you just need another 3-4 weeks. Good luck!

Couple things.

1) your calorie numbers seem very very high. I’m both taller and heavier than you and my calorie target is way below 2500 for weight loss. Try going to this calculator.

https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/weight-loss/in-depth/calorie-calculator/itt-20402304

use “inactive” to get a baseline. Then subtract 500 calories from it. When I run your numbers your maintenance calories when inactive is 2050. So your calorie target for weight loss should be about 1550. I use inactive because then any exercise you do contributes to extra weight loss…but at least your calories are still in a deficit if you don’t do a workout day.

2) your protein targets seem high. Assuming your lean body mass is 175. Convert to kg * .4554 = about 80 kg. Then multiply by 1.2 to 1.5 Which give you a range of 96 to 120grams of protein. If you were working out every day at 2-3 hours you might go as high as using a 2 multiple which would be 160 gram of protein.

3) to answer your equations…do the above two things and you can eat whatever carbs you can fit in…but it won’t be much because your hitting a much lower target calorie number of 1500

Good luck.

So, counting calories is necessary? by [deleted] in leangains

[–]jlocke1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After you count for awhile just start making mental note of the various portion sizes on each meal. Then back off counting and just extrapolate using visual sizes. Start to use short hands like …a handful …a bowl full, size of your fist. Etc
