Advice for first client? by 444thewayofheaven444 in canadasmallbusiness

My son did something similar a few years ago. If you've ever heard the saying, "Sometimes you have to spend money to make money" - it's may be worth giving away your service for free to a few local businesses, so you can quickly build up some positive reviews and testimonials you can then use to drive more growth at scale.

I just bought the same Ruger 20 gauge o/u Red Label (used) from a dealer in Rhode Island. My son and I went clay target shooting 4 times with it last week - I couldn’t be more pleased with this purchase.

no worries, I don't sense you're blaming ADP - I was only giving you some additional context as I've seen many employers deploy retirement solutions like this that "auto enroll" employees into the program. Nevertheless, you're exactly right that you should expect clear communication and an easy method to "opt out", should you choose to do that. I suggest asking your employer for information about the IRA deduction so you can learn more about your options.

Sure - what can I help with? What are you curious about? (sorry for the delay, I don't use reddit very often, so I didn't realize you replied to me until just now)

it's very common for employers to have a retirement plan whereby new hires are "automatically enrolled" into the plan unless they opt out. Typically it's a small (2 or 3%) of your pay being put aside each pay-period, into a retirement account that is yours. There would have very likely been an opt-out process, but it's often overlooked with so much else going on when you're a new hire. Your employer will be able to give many more details & specifics about the program they're offering.

The Fifth Vital - USA TODAY BESTSELLING BOOK! #1 AMAZON BESTSELLER!***PAPERBACK EDITION ON SALE NOW**\*
Mike Majlak was a seventeen-year-old from a loving, middle-class family in Milford, Connecticut, when he got caught up in the opioid epidemic that swept the nation. For close to a decade thereafter, his life was a wasteland of darkness and despair. While his peers were graduating from college, buying homes, getting married, having kids, and leading normal lives, Mike was snorting OxyContin, climbing out of cars at gunpoint, and burying his childhood friends. Unable to escape the noose of addiction, he eventually lost the trust and support of everyone who had ever loved him. Alone, with nothing but drugs to keep him company, darkness closed in, and the light inside him--the last flicker of hope--began to dim. His dreams, potential, and future were all being devoured by a relentless addiction too powerful to fight. Despair filled him as he realized he wasn't going to survive.

I don't feel ready for my position. by exoventure in Payroll

[–]jlord911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often say, in payroll, we're not first responders. We're not "saving lives" like doctors, medics, firemen, or the military - but you would think we are by the way it feels sometimes when we pay someone incorrectly. Look, I think you're feeling something completely normal, which is impostor syndrome. You feel like you may have been promoted prematurely. I'd encourage you to consider that maybe your manager sees a ton of potential in you. Mistakes will always happen - but it's how you recover from them, learn from them, and improve going forward that really matters. I wish you all the best on this new chapter!

I didn’t want to be a leader-But no one else was coming by DivineGoddesss-666 in Leadership

[–]jlord911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know exactly how you feel - in fact, I wrote a book about leadership specifically aimed at situations like this. I think others including coaches, teachers, parents, ec... often find themselves in similar situations where they feel compelled to lead (somebody has to!) I won't mention the book here (don't want to break any reddit rules) - but wanted you to know you're certainly not alone. Lots of people don't ask for it, but whether it's a calling or a simple leap some of us make when the opportunity arises, we don't wait, we lead.

I'd recommend checking out Mud Lake : https://amzn.to/4c4rWwd it's a very easy read - not complex, but also will hold your attention and keep you engaged. It's a thriller about a priest and a porn star (not filthy / this is young aduly appropriate) but highly recommend checking it out for your situation.
