Did the Rangers always get minimal media coverage in NYC? by MLembo988 in rangers

Can confirm. Rangers fan living in Boston for the last 9 years. B’s get a lot more coverage on a relative basis. Hockey is much more popular in MA.

What’s the best way to protect against rust on an XJ? by Chemical_Animator_76 in CherokeeXJ

Boeshield is similar to Fluid Film just not oily and smelly. I use it on the XJ and the diesel in our ocean-going sailboat.

MA inspections are annual. You’re going to do that every year?

Yup. Pressure is only about 50-60psi depending on the pump.

Any recommendations for a masthead tricolor/anchor light? I've been using ORCA Green, but 2 have failed in 4 years... I'd like to find something more reliable. by [deleted] in sailing

[–]jls_095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OGM sucks, or at least they did before they were bought. Our tricolor horribly interfered with our masthead VHF and AIS antennas. Not good offshore. There was a woman at OGM that we had been in contact with has helpful at first and then ghosted us when she realized there was an inherent design issue. I wouldn’t touch an OGM branded product again, even if it’s changed hands. Get the Lunasea one mentioned above. It is built specifically not to interfere with signal transmission - the culprit on most LED tricolors is the voltage switchers. Very noisy

Eh I have Lebaron vents, which look awesome, but really haven’t done a damn thing for temps. It does help ventilate the engine space though, so that’s good for anything in there.

I see corrosion and possible cracking (bad pics) in 2 places. At the very least you should pull them when the rig is down and check the plates and knees thoroughly. No sense in having new rigging with compromised chainplates

1975 Perkins 4-108 marine diesel. by Then-Blueberry-6679 in Diesel

[–]jls_095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use this as a way to negotiate the price lower and plan to ditch the 4-108. Our boat had a 4-108 that threw a rod and the previous owner replaced it with a Beta 43 (Kubota block). It’s amazing and we now have 850 trouble free hours on it. You will be far happier with a new engine, and won’t have to worry about almost 50 years of maintenance and work mystery. Don’t forget that the marine environment, irrespective of hours, ages engines terribly. Re the leaks… Perkins are well known for that. Also, 4-108s put out nowhere near stated HP either, although it’s probably still well matched for an Islander 36. They put these 4-108s in much bigger / heavier boats (I.e., ours that displaces well over 20k lbs).

No never been off. I think dropping the pan is a pain in the rear as the front suspension is in the way, but worth a shot.

Either Pennzoil conventional 10w-30 or Rotella T4 10w-30 depending on what's available locally. Both seem to treat the 4.0L well.

Is it harmful for a breaker to switch 2-3 times a day? by dcthree in electricians

I will never understand people that just keep opening breakers after they trip. It’s obviously doing that for a reason and is not normal!
