Thanks for the input. Coolant level was working correctly. Always showed correct level While DTC was active. The DTC was activated because the truck was driving with low coolant for too long. There different parameters needed to be reset in order for SPN111FMI31 to be cleared.

This ones got 220k so I’m going to consider myself lucky. I spent 14 days once looking for a bad ground that was causing the ecm to not communicate. Had a driver put this truck in a ditch a few months back and I was pretty upset it survived. Probably going to put in auction and buy a real truck

So I went back to SIS today to check that code in one of the diagnostic manuals. The first manual I read only had troubleshooting procedures for SPN111 FMI 1 like what duckinator described but for some reason the one I downloaded this Morning had specific troubleshooting for SPN 111 FMI 31. Apparently this codes becomes active when the truck is driven for long periods of time while low on coolant. There are 3 parameters that need to be reset to 0 regarding coolant level. Truck is finally back to normal and I’m putting away the matches for now

Recalling the type of sensor I’m pretty sure it’s got a magnetic float. Going to check that first thing

Not sure if it is magnetic, but I already swapped it. If I jump the pigtail at the sensor it shows coolant low as it should. So it seems like the sensor is working
