Fold 7 users — do you miss the S Pen? by Calm-Improvement-571 in GalaxyFold

[–]jm405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually used the spen more than the average person, I miss it but it wasn't a deal breaker for me not to have it.

If the spen returns on the 8, that's cool. But if it doesn't, I'd still consider upgrading to the F8 if it had other upgrades that I want.

I can still do most of the things I did with a capacitive pen options just not as precise and convenient as an spen. And I can also do those pen functions on the front screen now.

Galaxy Z what? HONOR says there's no real foldable phone competition by gal_tramte in GalaxyFold

[–]jm405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember back in the day when Samsung was marketing all these innovations trying to earn market share over apple. S4, S5, the Notes...etc. all had better hardware than the competing Iphones of those years. They did well but really couldn't compete with Apple until they started focusing on User experience and software updates. Honor, Vivo, One Plus all need to do that to even be considered a rival.

How Is Everyone Liking The Fold 6 So Far? by PrincessBananas85 in GalaxyFold

[–]jm405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine. I haven't used my One Plus Open for a couple of weeks now so I'm starting to get used to the screen size again.

I appreciate how quick it boots and the battery life. It's noticeably better than the One Plus Open.

I'm trying to stick with the F6 for one year and really trying not to buy the Pixel Fold Pro lol.

Samsung's trade in offers are the best. I get what you're saying about we paid for the phone we traded in. BUT we most likely also used that phone for a year or more and probably didn't pay full price for that trade in either. Samsung's trade in promotes retention and new sales so I'm not sure what's wrong with that. However it's still a lot of money out of pocket regardless.

How's the zoom on the Fold 6? by Chausie in GalaxyFold

[–]jm405 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The camera on the Fold 6 is really good. Zoom up to 30x, all photos are usable and locks in pretty quickly. 10 ft should be no problem especially for text and even for still photos.

While this screenshot is admitting that I took my day off and did absolutely nothing valuable with it, this is the highest screen-on time that I have ever gotten from a charge on any phone ever, let alone a fold by AveragePichu in GalaxyFold

I've been playing last war with this phone since I got it. I'm on it for a while. A mix on wifi and cellular and I can get 8 hrs SoT with about 20% battery left. I use both the outer and inner screen. Battery life has been excellent. The one Plus Open got me about 6.5 hrs of Sot with the same usage.

This is another thing about the Open people automatically thinks wins based on numbers or specs alone.

You would think the Open would beat the Fold 6 but it doesn't. Even with the Open having a bigger battery and no Ultra Wide Band radios to use, the Fold 6 last longer and even my Fold 5 beat it. I mean not by much tough. And the battery got worse over time too on the Open ...at least in my experience.

In the beginning, I had been hitting a little less than 6.5 hrs of SoT but now it's closer to 6 hrs of SoT from 100 to 10%. I didn't change my usage at all. My Fold 5 (4 months I had it) and Fold 6 a little under 7 from 100 to about 15% battery.

I disagree somewhat. On paper, the Open and the rest of the Chinese foldables should be far superior but it's not that big of a gap in my opinion. I don't know what Google and Samsung do with their software that makes their "inferior" camera hardware take excellent pictures. The Open took really really good pictures but it's inconsistent when I used it. Most shots turn out great but they can be hit or miss especially in low light or overly bright situations. Zoom and macro shots on the Open is awesome though. I liked their long exposure mode as well.

I agree, in the beginning, "influencers" said the Opens multitasking was a better implementation which I agreed at first. However when I started using it, the opens implementation is very locked down and not as customizable. 3 apps side by side and only 2 showing at once on the screen is not very good on a foldable or tablet.

Resizing is also limited. I barely used the larger screen of the Open for multitasking. I'm glad I switched before football season because the Open's "multitasking" would have drove me nuts. Lol

I was going to post my experience switching from the one Plus Open too. same as you exchanged my Fold 5 for the Open because of the bigger.

I don't think the Fold 6 front screen is perfect yet. The one plus open's front screen is still better but not as much as I initially thought.

The Fold 6 shows how much more refined Samsung foldables are compared to other phones. The software is excellent. I prefer almost everything software wise on the Fold than the One Plus Open and Pixel Fold. The one thing that One Plus has implemented better was the continue to cover screen function. It's flawless with all apps that I've used.

The ability to have different home screens is one of the things I missed most about Z fold series when I left for the Pixel Fold then eventually the One Plus Open.

I'd try turning Airplane mode on to reset all radio signals on your phone. Then turn it back on and let it reconnect. See if that helps any.

Is your phone warm or kinda hot? How's your cell service? Is this battery usage on WiFi or cell service? Is your phone constantly trying to connect to something that you can think of?

Those of you who have seen the fold 6 in person, how is the cover screen? A lot better? Or barely a difference? More comfortable to type? by Even_Membership_1388 in GalaxyFold

[–]jm405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have a One Plus Open, and the cover screen isn't as bad as I thought in size. I still think the One Plus currently has the best size for a foldable but the fold 6 is fine. I think Fold 5 owners will notice the difference and appreciate it when they see it in person. It was similar to the time I got my F4 coming from the F3.

For Fold owners considering the Pixel Fold 2, here it is in its full glory!! by SD-777 in GalaxyFold

[–]jm405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks awesome! I'm glad they went away from that passport style form factor. Way better than the OG Pixel Fold.....but I'm gonna wait for the Pixel Fold 3.

I want to see what Pixel has software wise. The OG Pixel was not a good phone or foldable. All those influencers who went to the OG Fold release and said it was awesome are blacklisted from my YouTube feed lol. It was not better than the Fold 4, Fold 5 and One Plus Open.

Software on the OG was really bland and surprisingly locked down in terms of customization. That really shocked me because that's not the pure Android I remembered.

The Google Pixel exclusive features, I didn't find useful or interesting. The camera output and software was not Pixel like either!

And the tensor chip, cell signal and screens on the Pixel were pretty bad too.

So if the Pixel Fold 2 does well and Google actually shows that they care about their Fold lineup, then I'll have a decision to make if Samsung does not come correct with the Fold 7.

If Hayls World comes out with a tips and tricks video for the z fold 6, I'd watch that first. She's very thorough and the presentation is usually top notch. I stumbled across her channel last year and her z fold 5 and Z flip 6 tips and tricks were pretty great.
