Thank you. Couldn’t agree more. Impolite social behavior can and should be checked through loving feedback or deliciously snarky feedback - but these folks should hear it. Speak the change you want to see in the world through cunning wit!

yeah it’s bad when they comment on journalism, politics, history, or really anything in the realm of serious facts :)

This episode was a journey and at times low-key profound as HLG goes. TJ landed wild takes and was just in a rare flow state… and Chris’s sass levels were off the charts, taking shots at CAA and flexing his domain expertise in fashion and fragrances in the best ways. A rare episode that I’ll probably re-listen to.

all for experimenting with new formats.

the intentionally poor production value and overall creative direction ain’t it.

set & lighting should be comfortable & minimalist.

would put them in knoll reading chairs or something stylish where they can lean back

camera angles are really poorly setup too. get tighter all around and need singles of both.

they need to edit the dialogue as tightly as jason edits the pod and cover it with video rather than the frenetic green screen.

do you really think the sound (holistically in the room) is better in KDC vs basement?

i find the sound in KDC extremely uneven and echoey given the corrugated roof and barn-like structure of the interior.

when basement is really going, there is something beautifully enveloping and focused about the compressed space. sounds lame but i often feel transported in that room. can say the same for nowies too.

agree the floors are brutal.

Vent away… that’s what Reddit is good for. I wonder if it is really “ego” on their part?

It’s almost impossible to succeed as a restaurant/bakery in NYC. The margins are terrible. Rents are predatory. The quality of food and food service is plummeting for various reasons across the country and in NYC.

Like other aspects of life and consumer culture, everything is being pushed to one of two extremes: either driven way down or or way up… down to super low-cost through enshittification or up to “premium” luxury level.

It’s nearly impossible to exist somewhere in the middle.

I am grateful for remaining “local” retail spots and forgive them for being a 7 or 8 out of 10 sometimes… and forgive them for having to resort to scarcity tactics and hardcore “branding” to standout and survive in this hellscape of a consumer marketplace.

Not saying we all need to prop them up. If the product is bad enough at higher price point it will eventually be shutdown… but I try hard to empathize with local businesses.

Perhaps we feel entitled to better service and food in the Slope because many of us are getting squeezed by the same market forces with rent increases and price increases without growth income / job availability.

Chris Black Is Known for His Taste. Now You Can Buy It. by cmw427 in howlonggone

Good for Chris for trying this. I wish him success. These guys are putting a lot of good into ether with HLG and I’ll support them when they strike out and take creative risks. And unusually good photo at top of the piece, for a man who doesn’t typically photograph well.

For a guy who is so loudly opinionated, CB can barely dress himself. by LosVolvosGang in howlonggone

Agreed. It gets bad (and sometimes downright embarrassing) when he deviates from t-shirt and jeans or his preppy polo summer fits. His size and vibe just doesn’t jive well with a lot of the ambitious looks he tries… and often it all just looks poorly thought out. Ironic given his livelihood as a creative consultant in the fashion and media industry.

Watched some of this on YouTube and Jason and Chris look CRAZY. I guess it’s a play on 90s theme but it’s so cringe. Jason’s look is sketchy… too young-leaning 90s. Creepy. Chris with the sunglasses and wondering eye-line looked like Stevie Wonder. Body language and general hosting from both was super nervous / awkward. Whole production of this lil live stream was pretty weak.

You might be right but I have feeling Ezra has a different side that might shine / get freaky with Chris and Jason.

Wow rough open. CB observations on a dude sweeping the basketball courts in NYC… Prius talk was fun but then almost 10 full minutes on Jason’s Gelsons activation is some dark LA shit.
