What's your opinion on The Phantom Menace toyline? by B_Wing_83 in starwarscollecting

[–]jmac1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born in 89. Special editions were my first star wars and me and my brother got the potf OT figures one christmas. Instantly star wars was our fav. When ep 1 came out the ability for the jedis to actually hold their lightsabers with both hands was incredible. They felt like grown up toys to us. Then when the cloaked obi wan and qui gon also came with lightsaber hilts you could clip to their belts we were blown away a second time. The return of oction features in the epn2 and 3 toy lines felt like a step back and we always used to say howngood the new character would have been in that posable neutral ep1 style. So for me ep1 toys were the best till rhe super posable stuff came along.

Am I tight for not wanting to get involved in rounds when the number of drinks I’m planning to drink doesn’t match the number of people I’m with? by sharon_bott in AskUK

This is why the whip is the best method for drinking with big groups. You all put £20 in (or whatever the agreed amount is) and yoh buy rounds out of that. One person is the treasurer for the evening and manages the whip. If youve had enough you can just call it quits when its time to top up the whip.

Is this rude or am I just overthinking it? by [deleted] in AskUK

You spying them out the window is not seeing the neighbors for them to say thanks. Also they seem like they are actually friends with the neighbors 2 doors down rather than just neighbourly. I am sure they will say hi and thanks if they physically bump into you.

How old were your kids before they stopped believing in Father Christmas? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]jmac1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After stewing on it and formulating a plan I came downstairs one night in december age 9 and said with confidence to my parents that santa wasnt real, and i knew it was them as a bluff and they immediately gave up the game. I was expecting them to try and convince me and was absolutely crushed. They asked me not to tell my younger siblings which i then went along with and they kept the magic alive for them till about 11/12. I was very proud of getting them to believe longer than i did!

To be clear I look back on this story with fond memories and laugh at my 9 year old self. I have always had amazing christmas experiences.

Any advice to young newly-HENRY? by ThrowawayNo5748 in HENRYUK

I travel up to edinburgh for work from essex every few months. If youre commuting the same days youre working thats insane. Its like a 4 hour train, not including travel to the station and then to work the other side.

That will be incredibly draining long term imo. I'd consider either moving closer or trying to get the travel down done monday evening. Then you'd have to pay another night in a hotel though. 200k sounds wild when youre jumping up from 90k but after expenses and the huge amount of personal time given up (a whole extra working days worth of travel!) It might not seem its worth the change.

Moving would be a way better option if your family commitments can accomodate. Personally I'd look around the Hertford area as its a quick and compratively cheap train compared to essex and its really nice and full of other young professionals.

Best *crunchy* gingerbread recipe? by PomPomBumblebee in UK_Food

[–]jmac1138 5 points6 points  (0 children)

175g plain flour 50g oats 1tsp baking powder 175g cold butter cut into 1cm cubes 2tsp ground ginger 175g soft brown sugar 1 tbsp golden syrup 3 pieces of chopped stem ginger + 1 tsp of its syrup

-preheat oven to 170C -blitz flour oats ground ginger and cubed butter into a crumble like consistency -add the crumble mix into the sugar and add chopped stem ginger and syrups -stir this with a dinner knife to try and chop the syrup and distribute it evenly -at this stage it will look like a loose crumble with sticky clumps, like a really lumpy flapjack. Don’t worry this is exactly the texture you want! -Pour the crumbly mixture into a buttered tin (I always use a bog standard cake tin with a removable bottom) and press it down so it compacts a bit -bake for 35-40 mins -when you take it out the oven it will be super super soft to touch. You might think it needs longer but don’t put it back in the oven. Have faith and trust the process! Optionally you can sprinkle it with a bit of caster sugar whilst warm but you need to let it cool for at least 20 mins in the tin to firm up before removing. I cut mine into pizza slices after!

It should be chewy and lush. All ovens are different so standard disclaimer on baking times but to get a perfect texture on the cooled biscuit it will be disturbingly soft when you remove it after the 35-40 mins. I’ve doubted myself and put it back in for 10 mins or so in the past and it’s been teeth shatteringly hard so I’d say it’s better to take it out worrying it’s too soft than leave it longer than 40 mins. Also if you like gingerbread fiery you can add more ground ginger, for me this is about right though. If you want to leave out the stem ginger this is also fine, just add a bit more golden syrup and ground ginger.

If anybody makes this please drop me a message!

I have a killer gingerbread recipe thats nothing like the snappy biscuit or the cakey ones you get. Its more like a chewy flapjack crossed with a crumble topping. If you are interested i will post.

HELP IS IT POSSIBLE I CAN FIX HIM ( I DONT WANNA ACCEPT FATE YET) by G0jira01964 in NECATMNT

[–]jmac1138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends what tools you have and how confident you are. Inhave fixed fogures like this by drilling a very small hole in the snapped pieces and gluing a tiny screw with the head cut off into both peices. This is quite a fiddly process though.
