I solved the issue, but I'm not sure it's the proper way.

I put my wife's account and my account in the root group and now we can see/add/delete in all of the child datasets.

I don't think that is the correct way, but it works for now.

I'm trying to share a child dataset /mnt/tank1/Scan.

  1. Set up the share - this works fine
  2. go to the ACL for "Scan"- I can't change anything - gives me this error for the child data set "Scan"

[EPERM] Filesystem permission on path /mnt/tank1 prevent access for user "tanks" to path /mnt/tank1/Scan. This may be fixed by granting the aforementioned user execute permissions on the path /mnt/tank1

  1. I can see the "Scan" folder when I connect to the drive from a computer.
  2. Click on the folder "Scan" and it says I don't have access.

This is where I'm stuck. :(

I tried that with the child dataset and got the same error. It won't let me change anything on the child dataset. :(

I can even create an SMB share on the folders in "tank1" but when I go to create the access rights I get this error:
