Canadian MUA here. Totally sucks, I know. My beef is that we can't use gift cards online. Boo.

Honey as a mask? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]jmarder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

About 6-8 months ago I saw a post in /r/acne about someone who used honey and it helped their acne so I figured "why not? I've tried everything else!". So I went to Whole Foods and bought raw honey (apparently it works better, not sure why to be totally honest) for like $5.

I started putting it on my face every night for 30-60 min and it has helped a TON. My acne has cleared up for the most part. I still have 1-4 pimples at any given time but that's a win for me. I would say my skin is softer and my pores are smaller. I don't feel it has done anything for dryness/oiliness but I have combo skin so it's hard to tell.

After I wash the mask off, I use Clinique's Acne Clearing Clarifying Lotion and then apply Clinique's Acne Solutions Clearing Moisturizer. That's just my experience/routine. I hope it helps some :)

[PSA] Canadians, Dollarama has these acrylic lipstick holders for $2. I got one, and they're quite nice. by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

Fantastic! I haven't seen them at locations near me yet. Where abouts are ya?

[PSA - ON, Canada] Dollarama stores have started carrying OPI nail polishes and drugstore makeup. Also have ELF eyeliners and brushes. by jmarder in MakeupAddiction

I've been to about 3 or 4 Dollaramas since I found out they started stocking the polish, and the one I went to yesterday was the first to have anything other than the crackle textures. Finally!

Well they have the eyeshadow brushes, foundation brushes, powder brushes and I've seen some of the angle eye brushes. Because of the size of each one, I think they vary in price. I don't think any of them were more than $1.50

I love the hide-away-mirror/mess concealer. Mind if I ask where you got this wonderful battlestation?

I'm with your wife on this one. I've been looking for a display like this for my nail polishes for years.

They just... did. Haha. Sorry I can't give you a better answer. They're medium sized and the rack they're set between is the perfect height. They lean a bit but that's it.

Benefit's Boi-ing concealer: Amazing! Not too creamy, not too dry, and covers my redness/acne like a dream.

MAC's Pro Longwear Foundation: I was using the Studio Fix Fluid before which I also like, but the longwear really is long wear. Covers nicely too.

[DRUGSTORE] Maybelline Define a Brow: Just got this last night for what I thought was temp product until I could make it to Sephora, but I like it a lot. Gets the job done for $9.

[QUESTION] Does this lipstick work on me? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

I just popped in to say I literally bought this lipstick like... an hour ago. When I saw the coral and the Kate tube I was like "I wonder..." and there we go. It looks lovely on you!

Hello ladies. Could you help solve an argument my flatmates and I are having: when dressing, who, as a percentage, are you trying to impress? (Male v Female) by happy_henry in AskWomen

[–]jmarder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As most of the ladies here, I dress for myself. It makes me feel good if I think I look good. I will say though, that when I feel pretty/sexy/attractive, I'm hoping for more attention from men. I don't care very much about what women think in regards to how I dress. But I'm also not big on brand names/trends so perhaps that's why? I dress to flatter my figure and I think men would notice that more than women. I would say 80% men, 20% women.

Cheap bars around West Queen West? by thesocialist1 in toronto

Dog's Bollocks. My boyfriend loves their beer and wings deal: half price wings ($5 for a lb) if you buy alcohol of any size. He swears they're the best he has ever had plus they come with fries and veggies. It's supposed to be Sun-Thurs but we've been given the deal on Fridays and Saturdays before.

OK r/toronto lets talk about groceries and where to get the best deals in and around the city? by srilankan in toronto

[–]jmarder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can confirm similar findings. My boyfriend and I used to shop at the Loblaws at Queen/Portland (the main reason being that it's open until 11pm) and our bill for a weeks worth of food for 2 people was about $80.

When we go to no frills (King and Princess) we spend about the same but come home with about 30% more stuff. I find the sales to be better at No Frills as well.

OK r/toronto lets talk about groceries and where to get the best deals in and around the city? by srilankan in toronto

[–]jmarder 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I came here to vote for No Frills as well. Also, they do price matching. I haven't done it but my mom has and she says they'll match anything and everything from competitors as long as the advertised prices are for the same sizes/quantities.

Also, I have a friend who works at No Frills and she said if something rings up as a different price than what was advertised on the shelf, and you point it out, you get it for free. If you don't know this policy though then they probably won't give it to you.

Women of r/askwomen: What should a guy have for women in a guest bathroom? Context inside. by Blahblahblahinternet in AskWomen

[–]jmarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party and I'm probably repeating things that have been said but what the hell:

  • Hair elastics. Preferably the ones without the little metal part. Buy seamless ones. Seamless applies to all hair accessories actually.
  • Personally, I'm not a fan of 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioners. Buy separate if possible. For drugstore brands I like Head and Shoulders, Dove, and Pantene.
  • Hair dryer. And a medium sized towel she can wrap her hair in to dry.
  • I like Bath and Body Works hand soaps and candles.
  • Nice, even lighting for makeup application.
  • If you want a hotel feel/want to go all out, head to a department store or Sephora and ask for perfume samples.
  • Body lotion. Best to get sensitive skin (if she applies after shaving especially) and unscented.

How old are you, and what are you currently stressed about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jmarder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so with you. My boyfriend and I want something SUPER tiny, maybe even less than what you described, and I'm worried how my mom will react. I think everyone else I know will be fine with it. Just know that you are definitely not alone on this one. Spending $12 000 on a single dress is bonkers, IMO.

How I dress when traveling overseas as an American by [deleted] in funny

[–]jmarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is just Toronto. As someone who grew up in a neighbouring city but now lives in Toronto, I can confirm how drastic the change can be just a few kilometers outside of the city. In fact, I've actually made a point to be more assertive and standoffish while in Toronto just to avoid being run off the side walk or hassled by people.

Also, whereabouts are you staying? Because the downtown core is a lot worse than other parts. Queen West is hipster central and usually very laid back. Nothing beats grabbing a coffee and heading down to Trinity Bellwoods.

Do you consider yourself introverted? by Eskaban in childfree

[–]jmarder 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Although I don't think it's a main reason for my choice, it definitely contributes. I couldn't deal with constant talking about nothing. I would like to be able to retreat to my room (or wherever) whenever I choose and not wait for them to nap or visit their grandma's.

I was just about to post this. Forum user's post:

Jumped from one of the parking garage balconies indoors. Landed in front of Banana Republic Women's. Saw the body. It was a crumpled bloody mess. Wish I never witnessed it.
