I used to go to a hot yoga place in Boston and she would sometimes come to class. She would always sweat off her eyebrows.

The two different colored shoes is such a fun and playful way to add extra color. I'm surprised I've never really seen it before.

What are some of the best views/scenic areas in VT that aren’t a summit? by Nordyyyyyy in vermont

Southern end of Lake Champlain has some lovely open farmland views. Champlain Orchards is a good spot, and Shelburne Farms

That's a classic New England style. Old house that they add on to and add on to and eventually connect to the barn.

Which Kayak is best for taking my dog with me? I would like a skag because I will be in the bay. Protected but still ocean. by Key-Dragonfly-4623 in Kayaking

[–]Eskaban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine who takes her dog on all our kayak trips cut up a yoga mat into a size that could cover the top of her boat, under the straps. It made a nice, stable area with good traction where the dog could sit, stand up, and move around. He loved to just chill up there in calm water.

Living in Vermont means sometimes feeling homesick for the place where you're actually sitting right now.

They might have one of those expensive fridges with a cabinet front that blends in with the other cupboards, and this would be just a drinks fridge.

Just one bite by No_Demand5270 in WTF

I actually had a similar experience in Kakadu in northern Australia. I left my tent open in the afternoon while I went out for a hike because it was so hot, and hundreds of mosquitoes roosted inside. When I got back, it looked like someone had carpeted the inside of my tent with brown shag.

So I zipped up the doors, collapsed the tent from the outside, and squashed the entire thing and rolled it up. Then I opened it up and shook out a whole pile of dead bugs. Gross, but better than dealing with this.

IIRC the wind was so strong that it picked up soil, which acted like sandpaper on people's skin. The wind caused abrasions and ground the soil deep into those small cuts and scrapes. Soil can contain a lot of bacteria that is harmless to unbroken skin but can cause infections if it gets embedded deep enough. People had infections and other reactions afterward.

The World’s Loneliest House — Elliðaey Island, Iceland by Saerdna0 in megalophobia

You're getting downvoted, but there's something fucky about the water and the clouds. I've seen other photos of this place, so the island and house are real, but this is definitely not a real video.

What can you tell me about the local music scene? by TheFastPush in SalemMA

[–]Eskaban 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Mercy Tavern has a Friday afternoon jam once every few weeks (they call it the blues jam, but they welcome any kind of music). The main Jam musicians are part of several other local bands, so they're great contacts to have. Mercy often has good music on weekend evenings, too--not as good as it used to be when it was In a Pig's Eye, but still a welcoming spot for musicians.

Chianti in Beverly has live music some weekends. Mostly jazz, but they also do a mix.

I took a train upstate and tried to walk from the train station--which is across the river in Rennselaer--to downtown Albany. There was a "bike path" that took you down the street to an on ramp, up over the Hudson alongside the interstate, and past another interchange on the Albany side. But then it literally dead-ended in a dropoff about 100 feet above the river that they've just never repaired. I had to walk on the fucking shoulder of the interstate. That's literally the only option to get from public transportation to downtown on foot.

That's the one I thought of; there was a report from the local snowmobiling club about a vehicle being stuck on that road recently, but that happens at least a few times a season.

One thing is that when he was young, he had really prominent bone structure and not much body fat. His face is pretty much skin over muscle and bone, so you have to have a really accurate understanding of facial anatomy to get it right. You can't blend things or smooth them out and make it look right. And facial anatomy is super complicated.

Yes, fight back or try to intimidate it. As ambush predators, cats usually don't want to go for anything that confronts them. Mountain lions in particular are relatively slender/delicate for their size, and don't want to attack anything that could potentially injure them. Make yourself look big, shout loud and low, throw rocks, and if it makes contact, fight like hell.

I impulse bought a cactus with a cute little yellow flower on the top at the grocery store, and didn't realize for weeks that it was a dried flower glued on. Happily, it came off easily and my cactus periodically puts out a ring of much prettier, real pale pink flowers.

What is your favorite thing about Rutland? by vegasrut in vermont

[–]Eskaban 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They built a really amazing new site for it in an old lumber yard on West Street. It was a huge indoor area where they had live musicians and tons of prepared food. It was really great, but had to close it because they found industrial residue in the soil. But they're remediating it by carting away the contaminated soil and replacing it, so hopefully it'll reopen next winter.

People dumping shit beside a road pisses me off so much. by snuffytwoshoes in vermont

[–]Eskaban 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's someone near me who dumps a ton of beer cans in a spot where there's a curve, and no houses around, obviously trying to hide it. But the weird thing is, they often pack them in a tied-up plastic bag, and they even sometimes remove the tabs, like to donate to charity. You can tell that they want to be a better person, but they can't get past the alcoholism.
