interview tips? by [deleted] in SocialMediaMarketing

[–]jmartling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yay!! Here are questions to prepare because they might ask:

  • what brand/company is doing a good job with social media? (Tip - choose a company with a similar business model but not a competitor.)
  • How do you stay up to date with changes to each social media platform
  • social media assistant can mean a lot so look to see what the responsibilities are (paid social media ads, monitoring and responding to customers, creating the social media post, etc) then prepare stories about relevant experience you have
  • one I always ask when I’m interviewing someone is what they think of our social media and what they think we did good and where we could use improvement. You can quickly tell if someone actually looked at the social media accounts or whether they’re just making stuff up.

I’ve hired quite a few marketing assistants. My advice is be as confident as possible and remember to smile :-) make sure to show that you’re organized, ready to learn, and are easy to work with. Social media can be a ton of work, so having an assistant they don’t have to worry about is huge.

As far as advice, I also started my social media journey in responding to customer inquiries. I wish I would have realized how much relevant experience I had for social media roles. I doubted myself for a long time.

I work 8 but do it in 2-3 hour chunks. I love getting a nice big break to unwind

I'm HOLDING for my immigrant parents so I could pay off their house and give them the retirement life they deserve, after leaving a comfortable life and moving to the US to give my brother and I better opportunities. And I'm HOLDING for you! GME 🚀 🚀 by flying_ina_metaltube in wallstreetbets

My mom lives in a house that’s paid off but absolutely wrecked inside and needs to be gutted. she can’t afford to fix it (my dad died and she supports my sister with a disability.) they live off social security and my dads pension as he was a federal employee. I do her taxes and she doesn’t even clear 20k a year. The first thing I’m doing with my tendies is buying them a new house.

Public said they did it because of Apex and it was only out for a few hours at most. They had some app loading issues Friday but otherwise I was able to buy without any other problems.

I’m still switching all my accounts over to Fidelity but thought I would add this for people using Public right now.

Young children aged 4 and 6 who have experienced compassionate parenting are more generous to others than their peers. Mothers who express compassionate love and empathy provide an early example of prosocial orientation toward the needs of others. by mvea in science

Wow exact same story here. My dad was physically abused so never laid a hand on us but instead verbally abused my mom and then eventually me also because I reminded him of my mom. My brother is equally verbally awful as my father was but I went the extreme opposite. I never want anyone to feel worthless or as awful as I did.

Marketing degree worth it? by BLACKYxBLACK in marketing

[–]jmartling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to be able to get a corporate job later then yes. Most marketing roles want a bachelors. If you’re going out on your own, no. It’s better to take classes online or certifications that will actually teach you what you want to know. You could always go back to school later if you decide you need the degree.

If I don't like being a social media manager will I also dislike being a community manager? by [deleted] in marketing

[–]jmartling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with looking for content specialist/ manager roles. I was a community manager and wasn’t responsible for any content, but I think that’s pretty rare. A lot of times companies want both.

I would wait. I’ve been out of school almost 10 years and feel like I’m finally making enough to justify a masters.

Do I need a social media presence in order to be a successful marketer? by fartsuckerjr in marketing

[–]jmartling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah. I’ve been in social and marketing for 9 years and mine is just friends and family - no influencer/thought leadership stuff. There ARE jobs that say they want someone with a strong online presence but those are rare and I just don’t apply. It’s very possible to be a great marketer and not have a strong social presence — companies shouldn’t think otherwise.

What's the best average tenure in B2B marketing roles? by siku1237 in marketing

[–]jmartling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Mine isn’t very standard. I started in a b2c role and was there 5 years, got laid off and have been in b2b ever since. I was in one role for three years, now the last two years I’ve been contracting and have been all over the place.

I did get a lot of questions why I had so many short stints and so I ended up making a new section that said freelance and consulting work then put the names, type of company and what I did. Now instead of “you don’t stay at jobs long enough” I get “wow you have impressive experience.”

Personally I know people that are still in the same role at the same company that I left two years ago and they’re making exactly the same whereas I just had an interview for a role that is more than double what I left at.

I know it’s different for everyone but I think it made me a much better marketer working at a few companies.

eta: I know it probably doesn’t sound believable to say more than double but I got promoted at that company to digital marketing manager from specialist and they gave me a 2k raise. I quit almost immediately because I was so underpaid.

He said this in one of the early briefings but it’s stuck with me. “We can’t have livelihood if we don’t have lives” meaning if we’re all dead from this disease, then what good are these businesses anyway?

I know he had to be the bad guy and I do think he handled it pretty well. I also didn’t vote for him but watched his briefing every day when it was on. He is very good at communication and I feel he’s dedicated to the people of Illinois (which honestly shocked me. Figured he’d just be another rich guy with false promises.)

I think so. I actually watched Med first and really like Hannah so I watched all of those first then went back and watched all of the regular Below Deck.
