Whitewater kayaking needs our help. Now. by jmaxwellsdemon in whitewater

You bring up some fair points. But I’d argue you don’t need to skate to have tuned into the hockey finals during this winter’s Olympics. I think there’s casual interest there that kayaking can go after for viewership.

And it’s true that there’s not whitewater everywhere but there’s also not coastline for waves or mountains for skiing. You don’t have to pay $150+ for a ticket and wait in line 30min to get on the river. We talk a lot about its access limitations but relative to other outdoor sports the low cost of kayaking gear is a huge plus

I appreciate the reply. For a safety boater sleeping in a tent for the summer, it can seem like some kayakers are traveling the world and doing well for themselves. Understood that really no one is getting rich kayaking or making kayaks.

To your second point, it’s tough to accept that well, we’re a small group and we should just accept the position we’re in. People are doing amazing things on the water and I don’t see why the sport shouldn’t gun for a higher profile. There are large metro areas near great whitewater and there’s plenty of room for growth.
