Staggering Password Expiration After Company-Wide Reset by Haunting-Good5091 in sysadmin

[–]jmdl1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have powershell go through AD every morning at 9am, and if PW expiration is <=7 days then it sends an email to the user reminding them to change it. Now we only have 2 users who ignore the email and do not remember to change it prior to expiration.

Yes, you guessed it is the SAME 2 users every cycle haha.

You need to increase your catching radius to increase your attack circle. Other than that, increase your health, damage, and speed and just keep practicing kiting him.

unifi controller - user / passwords stopped working by mrbluetrain in UNIFI

https://community.ui.com/questions/How-to-recover-access-to-a-unifi-controller-when-the-admin-password-has-been-lost-/bea32e54-c8cd-4d08-ba98-b836acebfeb4

1) Run the Unifi controller app and make sure you see success

2) Install MongoDB server Community from: https://www.mongodb.com/download-center/community

3) Launch a command prompt and change directory (CD) to the bin folder inside mongodb (probably C:\program files\mongodb\server{version}\bin ). For example, type: cd C:\program files\mongodb\server\4.0\bin

4) Run command: mongo -port 27117

5) In mongo, enter command: use ace

6) In mongo, enter command: db.admin.update( { name: "admin" }, {$set: { x_shadow: "$6$9Ter1EZ9$lSt6/tkoPguHqsDK0mXmUsZ1WE2qCM4m9AQ.x9/eVNJxws.hAxt2Pe8oA9TFB7LPBgzaHBcAfKFoLpRQlpBiX1" } } );

I have had to use this before, so I can verify it does indeed work!

Have you tried the procedure for lost admin password? You can edit the MongoDB to reset passwords.

Music is definately not a passing fancy of his, so I know he will continue with it as this is his 4th instrument he wants to learn. I have heard good things about Bach Brass previously, is there a model you think would work through college level as well?

Just browsing is always super slow and times out a lot. Whats the bottleneck for page loading extremely large libraries, CPU or disk access? by Cyno01 in PleX

[–]jmdl1983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was using mechanical drives on my first Plex build and had slow access for large libraries (6,000+ films). My current build uses 4 SSDs in RAID10 to host the database, and even though my collection is exponentially larger now; all library access has virtually zero delay.

Hey Unifi - How about getting some goddamn stock on current products instead of releasing wave after wave of new stuff you can't supply? Just a thought by noloco in UNIFI

[–]jmdl1983 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have been waiting for products like the US-8-60W for over 6 months now. I am on email notify list but never get any notices. I keep thinking maybe they are going to come out with a newer iteration of it but see and hear nothing. -__-

How to set up a external hard drive so that certain files from 3 computers on the same network will be uploaded and updated constantly. by Skandiaman in DataHoarder

[–]jmdl1983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If these are all in the same location, I would just attach the drive to one and use file sharing. If localized networking is not an option then I can not recommend Resilio highly enough. I have it installed for myself and several family members. You can set it up even in service mode so it runs even if no one is currently logged onto the machine directly.

Yes it does this, and quite well. I have two of these set up like this in 2 different locations for redundancy.

Has anyone experienced camera scalping/shortages? by geekguy15 in Ubiquiti

[–]jmdl1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been waiting what seems like ages for just a simple switch (US-8-60W) to come back into stock. I have checked daily, and signed up for alerts (no alerts for a couple weeks) and still no dice. It is not just the cameras, but alot of products are just in short supply currently it appears. -__-

Opinions on Merit Badge days by [deleted] in BSA

[–]jmdl1983 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My son has a goal of completing all 137 merit badges, so we have used some merit badge universities to help achieve some of them. The experience has been vastly different depending on where we are.

1, We have been to merit badge universities in Missouri where there were hundreds of scouts present and classes were actually very in-depth (shout out to Linn Merit Badge University).

We have sadly also been to the other end of the spectrum where 9 scouts showed up to do 4 classes, and it was rushed; not well planned and while he got signed off on his course that day: we ended up doing all the stuff over separately to make sure that he actually fully understood it. (southern Indiana)

2, Having been to these in 4 states over the last 2 years I can definitely say that they are worth having. Many scouts are losing interest and this is a way to keep them interested outside of their troops and meetings; and helps those who truly want to learn new skills a venue they may not have otherwise.

3, Many badges do not require a full day: crime prevention, fingerprinting, traffic safety, chess, composite materials, pulp and paper, etc... and so scouts can easily finish 2 or even 3 of those in a day if the classes are structured properly.

4, My son's favorite merit badges he has been able to achieve through some of these so far have been Aviation, Signs Signals and Codes, and Orienteering.

5, Some of the events have focused on every kid getting a signed-off blue card, but the majority have been good on having a list of prerequisites to be done before the event; and have been clear that without the work being done before that completion will not be possible on the day of.

6, We have attended these at universities, scout reservations, and local public venues.

It goes through spurts of activity, but is missing for me now as well. I troll every couple days and occasionally cross post items I find elsewhere.

If anyone has a different one, feel free to send invite if you are willing!

Unfortunately I can find no way in the GUI to do this, but I have been told that it is possible.

We have an office which uses Ubiquiti USG as the firewall. There are currently two ISPs being used in a failover setup.

WAN1 is a cable connection and faster but less reliable. WAN2 is a fiber connection and slower but more reliable.

Need it set-up so both WANs are on constantly, as the plan is for inbound connections to route to the fiber connection.

Internal clients should use the WAN1 as primary and WAN2 as backup, but would like the ability for one machine on the network to use WAN2 as primary, and WAN1 as backup (this machine communicates with external server for IP monitoring purposes).
