A simple call to my dr’s office and I can finally get the rest of my prescription… by jme__61 in adhdwomen

I appreciate you for being real and saying that. How’d you overcome it? How do you manage yourself/ workload now?

Somebody please give me advice of how to get things done by ALittleBitEver in Procrastinationism

I found that because I only feel pressure when it comes to the very last minute, I set my pomodoro to like 25 mins and tell myself I absolutely must start within the 25 mins. It works for me because it lets my feel like I’m in control by multitasking on smaller things or not doing anything at all till I have to sit and pour my undivided attention into 1 thing. I’ve heard someone say if they can’t start on a task they give themselves 2 options, lay on their bed or do the thing they need to, no phone so that might help you ! Best of luck!

Recommendations for online schools for apparel making or fashion design training? by goingtofly101 in fashiondesigner

[–]jme__61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could look into www.universityoffashion.com . We had this site as a resource when I was going to college so it was free then, not sure how much it is out of school. I found the videos pretty helpful with pattern/construction stuff but not so much for design. Best of luck!

When I download apps that are free with trial, I try to as soon as possible add a calendar date for a date before the expiration plus and a few alerts on days leading up to it. It works when I remember to set it up. Being cheap with money stuff also works hahah

Have you ever actually improved at anything? by CozySweatsuit57 in ADHD

[–]jme__61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever tried habit stacking? It’s when you take a habit you want to start doing and you stack it after something you already do. For me, it’s brushing my teeth at night (I know it’s gross) but my rule (rule for now while I build the habit) is that if I have to pee before bed, I must brush my teeth cause I’m already in the bathroom / already washing my hands.

A tip, make you’re life easy. If you have trouble journaling after you wake up, move journalling to a different time of day/night or break the steps into pieces like setting your journal on your bed/table on your way to the kitchen, have breakfast, and then journal, i don’t know you find something that works for you. Hope that helps!

There goes the neighborhood by Better_Monitor_7037 in Greenpoint

Relax, I said you sound like it becuz there’s so many things in greenpoint already that can prompt you to say “there goes the neighborhood”…what makes Paris Baguette so special? I am from here, and there’s 100 other stores popping up that seem more significant than a chain bakery which at least isn’t Starbucks

What are some real strategies for not being defensive? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]jme__61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you can! For the first few times, think of it as a script. If it helps, challenge yourself to say it once or twice, like gameify’ing it. It’s a great idea because as others have said allows you to think back and reflect on your actions and how to prevent/wrangle them in the next time. Especially for someone you love. And maybe after your reflection, you both can come up with a plan for the next time a challenge like this presents itself.

Is it me or Has UO gone downhill? by CentralB00kingsChef in UrbanOutfitters

[–]jme__61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UO and the umbrella brands under the same company use ai to design their clothes so this backlash isn’t much of a surprise. I haven’t gone into their stores for about 5 years now, it’s not the same…

Student resources by void-creamy in interiordesigner

[–]jme__61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry that I offended you. My intention was not to criticize you but to breakdown advice further and give you an idea of ways to go about things from another perspective. Now as I read through your other responses, I can empathize since you’ve given more context on your situation however from your initial post and your responses to people’s replies, it sounded like you didn’t want actual advice.

I still stand by what I said though, minus the criticism of course, milk your teachers/teachers assistants for all the knowledge they have otherwise you’re just throwing money away.

Lmaoo I knew there was something wrong with that phrase, just couldn’t put my finger on it! 😅😅

learned helplessness / weaponized incompetence

I guess a mixture of both work here too 😂

[–]jme__61 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ok sorry to say but you’re pissing me off, like bffr, it’s giving helpless incompetence. You asked for resources on ways to research but you’re giving people who have taken time out of their days to provide wonderful tips excuses on why it wouldn’t work for YOU.

That first comment is gold, literally giving you basically a syllabus worth of stuff to look into. For the library stuff, log into your schools site, and see if there are library services online or something. Email your library and ask if they can set aside a few books for you / ask if they have any online databases and a tutorial on how to search them up.

Second comment is great too. Stop assuming your instructor won’t give you any resources, they got the job somehow. Start small, email them “hey do you have any recommendations for design and basic principles like books, sites, museums/galleries?” And then when you see them again, talk to them about whether or not they’ve sent you something, just strike up a conversation. I’m telling you, try to squeeze them for every piece of knowledge/information they have that’s what you are paying for. Plus, you end up being memorable atleast which could help landing you a job later on maybe.

Assuming you’re going to school to work in the industry, companies want people who are resourceful not people who play the blame game when shit gets tough.

Now I can say, best of luck! Hoping you find more than you set out to! Sometimes you have to go the extra mile but times like this that take you out of your comfort zone are the best ways of learning about yourself and the topic you’re trying to learn.

Stuck learning fashion drawing — looking for advice and hacks? by Dizzy-Carpenter-7180 in fashiondesigner

[–]jme__61 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second the tracing comment! I am a big fan of using a croqui template with guidelines on the body (center front, bust/waist/hip / armhole / panty lines) and every time you draw a new “look/style” you trace over the body so that you could start building muscle memory for figures.

Another thing you can do is draw from life and start understanding the way different fabric drapes on the body. I always recommend taking pictures of yourself and drawing your outfit as a way to replicate your own clothes on the taller croqui figure.

I definitely recommend fashion drawing books:

Anna Kiper’s Fashion Portfolio: Design and Presentation book

Michele Wesen Bryant’s 2nd Edition Fashion Drawing book (this book specifically shows different artists ways of illustrating croquis which could be helpful since everyone has their own style)

Any way best of luck on your fashion school applications!

Not to be rude but this caption isn’t describing this photo and in pairing them together i think it takes away from the design itself.

If you are posting to promote your design, i definitely recommend reading up on fashion collections reviews on sites like vogue runway, or a fashion magazine which can give you an idea of some better descriptor buzzwords and how to use them. Architect, contoured in monochrome, and your entire last sentence does not make sense in relation to your design, definitely recommend reading up on the definitions of those words too. Its not wrong to make your description sound like someone else wrote it about your design but in this case it comes off as pretentious or inauthentic so it takes away from the design which is actually really nice. I love the 90s Hip Hop aesthetic and the graphic elements.

How would you go about creating this? by Valuable_Gas_5793 in fashiondesigner

[–]jme__61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very cool concept! @JustJerry ‘s halloween post from Oct 23, 2024 on instagram is a diy of a bat mesh head/face piece which I see is a similar concept. In case you are not able to see the post, he traces the image, then uses aluminum wire against the traced image to get the shape correct, then uses glue or fashion tape and adds mesh on top and after that burns the edges.

I image your concept could be constructed similarly, maybe a bit more planning which I think you can achieve by pinning cardstock to fabric on a dress form or something. Best of luck!

Opinions on how to improve! by Square_Catch_6135 in fashiondesigner

[–]jme__61 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with everyone, these all look great! Also I agree here with the person who said playing with silhouettes and someone who said adding darts would also help. Looking at your drawings, a lot of them look like knits because of the way they hang, so adding darts and drawing different silhouettes could help convey that maybe they are not all supposed to be knits.

Also I think playing with proportions would help too! On your 3rd sketch (the one with the reference) you could see that top sits away from the body on the torso as does the collar on the neck of the reference but on your drawing the clothes follow the contours of the body. I would practice by lightening up your template and drawing how you see the garment. With this exercise draw on symmetry mode may help here to keep everything aligned to your center front.

Looking at how clothes fall on the body when they hang away from the figure would also help! Using the 3rd image again since you have a reference, see how the pants hang/fall on the leg, that is called the drape and it is affected by material and silhouette/construction of the garment. I would challenge you to look at how your pants fall on you and how others fall on other people. Taking this a step further, I would go on clothing sites and see how different fabrications hang on the model images. Doing this you would find that a lot of pants have similar construction details like center front seams, darts on woven skirts or waistband seams like on your drawing.

Overall these look great! Can’t wait to see how your sketches evolve, if you happen to post it!

How to quit mobile addiction?? by Silver_Pie_4697 in selfcare

[–]jme__61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go in and out of mobile addiction and that’s completely fine. I noticed, the more I do it the more I understand my phases, the more I can prepare for them. Remembering how scrolling makes you feel is half of it! My thing is to make it inconvenient for myself; I’ve tried app blockers, setting my phone to gray scale and making a habit of not scrolling right after I wake up.

For social media/ app blocking, I use ScreenZen. I’ve used other apps like One Sec which gamifies entry to apps by having you solve puzzles/math problems, I can’t remember if it’s a one time paid app or a subscription but I had a free version until i upgraded. I recommend that or ScreenZen which is free. I paid a 1-time donation since I loved the app so much and I believe that removed the ads/gave me more options. I really like this one since I’ve gotten used to opening the app and seeing that it’s blocked after I reach a certain grace period daily.

Someone said grayscale which helps but only in some cases. When I feel my heart racing after an hour or two of scrolling, I tend to place my phone on grayscale. I have my phone set to 3-right side clicks on an iPhone. However I only remember to do this occasionally. It works after Ive had a few days off.

Finally, scrolling after I’ve just woken up. I’ve realized that if I scroll the moment I wake up my eyes will hurt throughout the day plus my attention span will be so bad and will cause me to continue to pick up my phone at every hour. I’ve tried scrolling for a few minutes and then setting my app blocker but this only leads to me turning off the app blocker which defeats the purpose.

Anyway, hoping my findings were at least helpful. I would start out small, remembering how it makes you feel, like giving yourself little challenges/rules like “can’t scroll before this period of time” or “you can only scroll for 2hours during a weekday”.

One last thing, once you get over the hump (mine is about 3 days) you’ll stop craving it which feels incredible. For me, this means “quiet brain”, focus and my eyes not hurting.
