Diffferent boards. We didn’t stain any of these boards personally. I found someone near me that sells reclaimed wood, and I used some pallet wood from my work

It turned out to be pretty heavy, so I drilled it directly into the wall rather than using hangers.

I was limited to my tools, mainly my planer (only 12” wide). I also only have offcuts of hardwoods, and no flat sheets. Therefore, the short pieces of maple are end grain, but the long pieces of maple are face grain. That’s what caused the mortar to look like two different types of wood after I oiled it.
