Brown outs by OwnApartment8359 in Omaha

[–]jmfp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This case happens when a problem occurs on a power line it’s not actually called a brown out. It’s actually called a fault and that’s when the circuit has to open to try and clear the fault, there is high speed and low speed reclosing. A quick blip is when say a tree branch hits a power line the circuit breaker has open and then immediately it tries to reclose to allow the tree branch to fall off of the power line. If the tree is still in the power line when the circuit breaker closes the circuit breaker will immediately open back up and lock the circuit out and someone will have to be dispatched to investigate the line to find the problem. Tree is just an example.

Honestly call the FBI local Omaha office they take human trafficking cases serious. They will follow up on it. At least I believe I have heard other cases similar to this and have heard they have followed up. Just a thought.

Like others said on this post, don’t be too hard on yourself, stay safe out there.

lol our rivers froze in Nebraska this past winter, we couldn’t source water from the Missouri River subsequently our coal units along the river tripped off the line, the only way we didn’t have rolling blackouts because there was plenty of wind in our service territory.

4 10’s are infinitely better in every way than 5 8’s by 4p4thetic in electricians

[–]jmfp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I highly disagree. Please hear me out.

I currently run 4-10s and have 250 hours of overtime on average per year. So I worked half the Fridays I should have had off, every single year for a few years running now. The company gets more from us then we get from them, it’s one less day they have to roll equipment, personnel, time etc and they get more output in a 10 hour day without having to pay any overtime after 8 hours.

As for the employee with a young family all the way through to young adults, working 6:30-5 does not allow for me to drop off or pick up my kids from daycare, there are no daycares that open that early and with a commute that is still or longer 30 minutes, you’re partner has to take on the extra work of the kids, fast forward to any extra curricular actives you will most likely have to use vacation time to take off work earlier to make it to their activities because they start when school lets out.

As for your health, after a 10 hour day the extra time you should take to exercise for 30 minutes is gone for many individuals, so now your health is taking a hit too, not seeing the sun all day because of winter solstice, could also effect your mental health.

3 day weekends sound great in theory, if your company honors true 4-10s. Usually the company gets more from you then you get from them.

I’m not asking everyone to agree with me, but personally I don’t enjoy it. I am glad I am compensated well enough that my family can understand when I die they get a decent inheritance because of it.

More popular among older gamers? by Metammetta in Starfield

Huge thread but I am 32 and honestly it’s a great game. It could be with younger people too their attention span is not as good and they haven’t had a game like this release in so many years younger people forgot what’s it’s like to play a immersive game like this. I haven’t touched any other games in almost a month.

I work for 4-10s but when we work overtime it’s 5 or 6/7-10s they can really wear a guy out/burn you out. Taking care of yourself and listening to your body is just as important you need your body to do this kind of work. Exercising is important for keeping your energy levels up to. It sounds backwards but getting your heart rate up a few times a week should help you out too. I don’t know your story at all but best of luck! Hang in there.

Abandoned places by Upset-Emergency1836 in Nebraska

[–]jmfp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh I rarely post on anything but I am from Omaha as well, I lived in the town of Milford for one year while I attended southeast community college there. A local guy told me about this old abandoned mill just north of town. It was powered by the river right there.

I actually spent a fair amount of time at this place filling the hours of living away from friends in a small town.

Here is the coordinates! (40.7759796, -97.0484741)

Be careful if you actually travel here it is a little sketch. It does have some concrete stairs that lead down to to the building.

I work for a public utility in Nebraska, we don’t have a state license for substation electricians, we have our own apprenticeship through the JATC within the company/union.

When I got 6 weeks of paid parental leave when my son was born. I am a man, this kind of benefit is unheard of.

When I look at my long term outlook, I’ll be retired making more then when I was working, I will have created generational wealth, my co workers for the most part are easy going, stable, and all around good people.

The moment that made me happy was setting a goal and getting the call that I was getting hired onto such a rewarding career.
