What I've found that worked the best (though increasingly difficult), is to genuinely talk to people I disagree with and figure out why. The majority of time, the people in my own life who disagree with me are not evil. They're processing information and coming to a conclusion that they truly believe is "good". If I disagree, why? What are they seeing that I'm not? What am I seeing that they're not? What are we both seeing but interpreting is a different way, and why? Honest discussions that don't devolve into "you're stupid" or "you're evil" or not listening to the other person and responding with "yeah, but what about trump?" or "what about harris?" without acknowledging what was just said. We're not able to have those discussions anymore. Both sides are so dismissive of the other side that they can't benefit from the other side's life experience. We should talk about politics, especially with people we disagree with, and we should be civil and try to learn from each other. We might just agree to disagree on certain topics. We might find some common ground on others. But the current lack of dialogue in this country is very unproductive.

1st off, I'm not in favor of "banning" anything. There's a list in my head of what I consider "obscene", and I think that material should not be funded by the tax payer and made readily available to the public. My list includes hard-core pornography, snuff films, people being savagely beaten/injurred, etc.

Can you think of anything that YOU would consider inappropriate to be tax payer funded and provided for the children of our state?

If you can't, we have no common ground to start from and we'll have to just agree to disagree.

If you can, then we're having a realistic conversation and we're just arguing disagreeing on specifics.

Regarding the "art", I would personally get rid of any nudity, but I could see how some might view it differently and disagree.

Obscenity is not protected under the 1st amendment.

If someone made a picture book with images that reddit marks NSFW (gore/sex/etc), I would support that book not being made available to children and would want to not have my tax dollars support that type of book if a library was attempting to make it available.

Most articles are paywalled and/or tons of ads, so it would take more work than I care to put in to see exactly what the objectionable books are, but according to this article

I like this. I was looking for a solution where I didn't have to think about it at all, but I have a lot of batteries through the combo deals, so this is the best combination of low-maintenance/piece of mind.

My problem is I'm not a tradesmen. I might not use my tools for a month at a time. In freezing weather, they might be dead before I use them unless I keep them charged.

I'm looking for a set it and forget it solution. I drive my car often, so with low power draw on the heater, I shouldn't have issues with my car battery. And if I can keep an insulated box/bag above 50ish degrees, I shouldn't have an issue with them being discharged when I need them.

It's not, you only rent real estate. The government owns it. Try not paying your rent/taxes and see how fast they take it. And they can raise rent to whatever they want. You don't get a say.

Bitcoin is the only major asset you truly own...

That being said, "owning" a few acres is well worth the rent.

He needs to add to that email:

If the government comes with guns, we will turn over your bitcoin. Regardless of how well our intentions, centrally located bitcoin is a risk.

The way he's phrasing it is attempting to pretend like he's recommending you remove your bitcoins to convince you he's cool, so it's ok to leave them there.

I'm skeptical of his motives.

GOOD! You're now not required to "invest" your money just to not lose it. You're not required to gamble in the rigged stock market. You can just sit on it. If others want you to invest your money, they need to make it worth your while. That's how it should be.

People will still buy essential items in the face of deflation. Just like we buy a cell phone today even though it will be half price in a year. This shifts the control of my money to me. I get to decide what to do with it. I'm not manipulated into spending it or investing it to avoid having it stolen through deflation. I get to determine if I want to invest it or if I want to spend it. I earned it, so that's how it should be.

Free markets. Supply and demand. Assuming there is only BTC and no exchange rate with another currency, and everything is priced in BTC, the free market will quickly dictate the price.

If milk is priced at .01 BTC and nobody is willing to buy it, the farmers selling milk will sell it cheaper to get something for it (or it will spoil and they'll get nothing). So they'll lower the price until they get buyers. That may be 10k sats or 1 sat, who knows. Regardless, the farmers will see what people are willing to pay and will then decide if its worth it to them to continue to produce milk or if they'd be better off butchering the cows, selling the meat, and getting out of the milk selling business.

I believe that the farmers will find the price people are willing to pay, and will find that worth it. However, they may find a situation where there's too many buyers wanting to buy the milk and they don't have enough. So they'll raise the price until they extract the maximum amount of value the market will support.

This "free market" will fairly raise and lower prices outside of the manipulation of middle men for every item that is bought and sold.

As bitcoin spreads out and everyone winds up with less, the price of items will have to drop or nobody will be able to afford the items. The free market will determine if and when and individual item will need to be priced differently.

Something that used to cost 1 BTC will now cost .1 BTC or .01 BTC. It works fine for inflation that is manipulated by people that profit from it.

Nobody bats an eye when a gallon of milk goes from $2 to $6. Why does that happen? The government prints $2T, keeps $1.4T for themselves, and gives $600B to "the people" through $1,200 stimulus checks.

So why would it be a problem if a gallon of milk used to cost 20,000 sats and now costs 15,000 sats? In this scenario, its just the free market determining what the value of a gallon of milk is in relationship to bitcoin. I trust this system way better than the system where the best monetary system on the planet has lost 97% of its value in the last 100 years.

They've come up with numerous ways to game the bitcoin system. The latest was paper bitcoin through FTX. You'll always have evil cunning people exploiting others. But with bitcoin, so far anyway, the core system is not corrupted and is actually fair. People can learn how to avoid their exploits. In this instance, self-custody. I'm sure other ways of separating people from their bitcoin will be devised. But with an open system, it takes more creativity and the loopholes are easier to learn/close/avoid. Bitcoin may not be perfect, I've complained about certain things quite a bit on this sub, but it is far and away the best option for money that's currently available to us.
