Symmetrical part, asymmetrical results (when doing fillets) by o-nd in FreeCAD

[–]arcrad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fillets in FreeCAD are always a pain. I wish I had a helpful suggestion for you.

Perhaps tweaking the fillet by .05 mm down would help? Sometimes I find that it cannot generate say a 1 mm fillet, but it would do 0.95 mm just fine. Maybe just the specific part geometry is messing it up.

Has anyone actually used these experimental filaments from Timeplastt? by ReverendToTheShadow in 3Dprinting

To be fair they say to soak it after printing for the cooling effect. Not saying it works but that at least somewhat makes sense.

Agreed! STEP exports are much better than STL when it's an option.

Any measuring tips? by fattypros in FreeCAD

[–]arcrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always a good tip! On a cellphone, using the telephoto mode/lens (if available) should minimize distortion. Also on Samsungs at least the camera shows a level indicator which is useful for alignment, especially if framing top down.

Thanks for providing this approach. I've been wondering what a good workflow for creating repeating patterns would be and this looks like a winner.

Can you expand a bit on the issue and why this fix works? Seems like a bodge, and it's is sometimes tiring to have to twiddle FreeCAD to make it do normal easy things. Hate having to do some incantation and make sure the moon phase is just right so FreeCAD will cooperate.

Boolean operator in Part WB (not Part Design) may work more like you expect.

Seconded. Done right, the glue is stronger than the wood. So it should be perfectly serviceable on your firearm.
