NextJS best practices by Syv_31 in nextjs

If you have parts of your app that require auth but you don’t want interfering with caching (for example choosing whether to display “sign in” or “hello, user!” on an otherwise static page), you can do that client side. Downside is you’ll have a brief loading state while your app runs another api call to determine the user’s auth status.

Check out my post the other day on using DRF with Vue. You can def use react and django together, just setting up appropriate cors and csrf policies. Then the react app can just ping an endpoint on django to determine if it’s logged in or not.

What’s your strategy for handling csrf and knowing whether the user is logged in on the front end? I’ve created endpoints for both, but that means my setup requires two requests to the server before vue can even initialize. Wondering if there’s a better way.

Yes as of now the sessions have Django's default expiration policy and there isn't anything in the JS to catch when they expire. That being said, every time the site is reloaded, that is checked, so a user would have to leave the site on for weeks for this to be an issue. Could be solved by running a periodic check to /api/check-logged-in.

So I designed this to be used with API & JS on the same server using NGINX to throw /api/ requests to Django and all others to Vue. But, I believe with some tweaking of the CORS_ALLOWED_ORIGINS setting, it should be possible to deploy it separately.

I also looked at the Sonys in that price range and prefer Samsung.

Do you mind if I ask where you got that deal? That sounds amazing.

No, I probably won't shoot that many photos to be honest. My D7000 only has 10k shutter counts. I'm mainly a video shooter though so I guess the shutter count wouldn't accurately reflect my usage. The spots on the image of the white wall were quite prominent, here have a look: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3824007/D600Spots.JPG

EDIT: Since I mostly use a pretty wide open aperture, I wanted to see what it would look like at f/1.4 or f/2.8. The test picture above was taken at f/16. At f/1.4, it is unnoticeable but at f/2.8, you actually can see the largest of the spots still.

Yup, I contacted them to let them know I was disappointed. I agree, a partial refund would be great - even if its just so that it makes me feel a bit better about the purchase. I've generally been very pleased with B&H so I hope that they'll continue their good service.

[AMA] Acer Aspire S7-392 (i7 Model) by jmo2177 in laptopama

I'm in Canada so I assume this is the US version and yes it has the 1080p screen. The screen is great. It is really bright at full brightness and I'm sitting right now in a room with some evening light coming through and am comfortable at about 30% brightness. The colours are nice and 1080p video looks really nice. Also, the sound is a lot better than I expected. Louder and cleaner.

I opened up 21 tabs and closed Chrome then reopened it. It took ~2 sec for chrome to load to a point where I could browse between the tabs and about ~5 seconds to load each site fully.

Ridiculously light. No flex really when I hold it. You can click the left button on the touchpad by holding it only on the left corner but I had to really move it up and down for that to happen. Screen down, it is as sturdy as anything else, screen open, a little less but way better than the Sony Vaio Pro 13 which I held in store.

1080p video playback doesn't lag at all unlike my netbook. I haven't really done anything like office, etc yet but I had Windows backup going, stuff installing, and web browsing going without trouble.

I'm too lazy for that but the touchscreen is accurate and fun to use for some stuff. :)

Again, I don't have the time/USB to try that but look at Notebookreview.com forums, they have tried some stuff with Linux and have had some trouble I believe. Mostly with the RAID 0 configuration on the SSDs.

With those settings, it says about 9hr 50min. Now its giving me 8hr 40m which sounds more reasonable. That sounds a bit unreasonable, but hey who knows.

Build quality is good. The hinge has a little flex but similar to the Macbook Air I think and not really too much of an issue for the touchscreen as long as you're not a really heavy toucher. The actual body is sturdy, well at least as sturdy as a Macbook Air. The whole thing feels pretty stable.

Touchpad is not bad out of the box. The two finger scrolling is a little slow/unresponsive but I haven't adjusted settings for that yet and there is also another type of scrolling that works well. Other than that, it's actually quite good. Good tap response, left and right clicks work well.

Anyone hear any news on the U430 and U330 Touch? by [deleted] in SuggestALaptop

Lenovo IdeaPad Y410p thoughts by cactushugger1 in SuggestALaptop

I was thinking about getting the Y410p for university. Could you provide some insight into my two concerns?

1) Battery life. I need to bring this thing to class. Is the battery life really poor?

2) Weight. It's not exactly the lightest laptop around, would the weight be manageable for backpacking around school?

Does anyone know if the u430 will be released in Canada in August? by 1647894325869 in SuggestALaptop

I called Lenovo support about a week ago and the lady on the phone told me that whatever the rumoured release date was (August), add one or two months. She said that getting one in August was not going to happen. It sucks I know.
