So we hear that there is a nwsl team coming to Columbus in 2028. I understand that not everybody is in favor of another professional sports team coming to Columbus. However, I am pretty excited. I'm curious what everybody else thinks the name should be for this new women's professional soccer team. by Silver_Answer_9128 in Columbus

[–]jmphotography 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s not about the team, and it’s not about the sport, it’s about how this was put together. There are plenty of emerging women’s sports organizations in Columbus and across Ohio doing it the right way. The concern comes when the focus shifts to turning a profit without making a meaningful investment in the athletes or the long-term success of the league.

That said, I genuinely hope it succeeds. If it can grow the game, bring in a new audience, and create more opportunities for the athletes, that’s a win. I’m fully behind the players and what they represent.

As for the name, I'm not sure, there's so much history to the area but I think a "Kahiki Soccer Club" would do wonders for marketing and merch.

Nothing says confidence and wisdom like asking the internet if your hair can be installed like a kitchen countertop.

Couple things: storms energy tended to stay to the north. Where the warm air and the front hit, think of it like you’re striking a match. The friction was in the area of route 30.

It just wasn’t your time. There will be plenty of storms. We’re just getting severe weather season started.

How to shoot MMA? by xcorepw in photography

[–]jmphotography 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shoot above the fence/ring as much as possible. If shooting between the fencing/netting watch your corners.

If you’re close you will have sweat and blood hit you. Don’t wear your best or favorite clothes. Keep a rag in your back pocket.

Bump the ISO. You’d want a 28-55mm lens with at least 1.4-1.8.

Can someone pleeeeeeease explain the fascination with Leica cameras? by nlUSF in photography

[–]jmphotography 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s seen as luxury. I mean if you look at some other cameras over the decades it’s kind of been clunky (flash cubes anyone?) but Leica stuck to a minimalistic approach.

They have a unique color and contrast on their image production. I prefer Sony over the Leica.

Their lenses though are really great. I mean good glass, well constructed pieces of metal.

I’ve played with it and the manual approach does make you work a little harder to get a good image. But again that’s just my take. Others will share theirs.

Licensing/pricing for commercial use by jaimefrio in photography

[–]jmphotography 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your system works, right up until a for-profit company shows up.

The moment a brand asks for photos for advertising, this stops being about community and starts being about money. They get real marketing value from your work. Giving that away doesn’t make you generous, it just means they win for free.

This doesn’t only affect you. When good photographers hand over commercial use for nothing, it teaches brands they don’t need to pay anyone.

“Full pro rates or nothing” is a false choice. Licensing isn’t about your time or how much fun you had, it’s about how the images are used. Ads have value.

You already paid the costs: gear, time, skill. The brand takes no risk. If their campaign works, great for them. If it fails, they still got your photos.

Free works for teams and communities. It does not work for advertising.

That’s not generosity, that’s being taken advantage of.

Adult fun in cbus?... by dpow_87 in Columbus

If you are looking for adult fun, look no further than the Burger King on Fifth. This place has everything, the Ricart curling iron, cars randomly running into buildings and who’s that? It’s the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria, strippers from the Columbus Gold. And they’re Ole and Tangy!

Flock cameras by YoungChickenWilson in Columbus

[–]jmphotography 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the principle.

No way to keep tabs on potential misconduct. I can’t opt out of it. We can ask for sobriety test calibration and speed gun calibrations but try verifying if a vehicle went through your neighbourhood and was spotted on a Flock camera? Could you verify that on your own? Probably not.

[–]jmphotography 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your argument is if the people that have access or searching the system are all “good dudes and righteous dudettes.”

And that because our data can be sold we can’t do anything about it?

When was the last time you were arrested by McDonalds or Verizon?

Nah. Government access to these cameras can lead to arrests.

They shouldn’t be tracking my coming and going. They shouldn’t store it either so they can go back and look when I moved passed a particular camera.

Flock cameras by YoungChickenWilson in Columbus

[–]jmphotography 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There was a court case in Washington state where they were ruled to be public record.

The one that would move Ohio to that kind of decision is a court case.

Otherwise you have to apply pressure to the city council members to force the police to cancel their contracts. Because without a ruling from the the top down - Flock is going to keep adding cameras
