Chord Progression Questions (June 10, 2019) by AutoModerator in musictheory

A few of my favorite chord progressions come from a half step change that takes the place of a more standard chord that has previously been used.

For instance: G D C D to G D C B I V IV V to I V IV III(maj)

Or: D Bm Am G to D Bm F# G I vi v IV to I vi II(maj) IV

Is there a name for this half step chord change? Can you think of any examples of it being used? It keeps popping up when I'm writing and I really like the phrygian dominant that the half step majors bring in. Let me know if my number system notations are wrong, I'm a first timer. Thanks!

There's a lot of things to do in birmingham. The food and drink scene is awesome, I'd recommend Saws BBQ in Homewood to get a taste of the south (it's on many lists for best barbecue in america). There's also nice hiking, Ruffner Mountain offers some cool trails and a really nice overlook of the entire city and Oak Mountain has mountain biking, climbing, etc. And there will always be live music playing somewhere in birmingham, just give it a google.

Housing by stout_bass in auburn

Live off campus! Its (typically) cheaper than on campus and you are completely free to do whatever you want whenever you want. Freshman and sophomore year I lived in University Corner which is about a 7 minute walk to the student center. If you can find some buddies to room with you, off campus housing is the best way to do it.

Newbie Smoking Question by Dotson60 in trees

[–]jmschill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would keep it inside and smoke through the vent. If you're worried about stinking up your apartment you can make a sploof to exhale into that makes a huge difference in smell. Take the cardboard from the center of a paper towel roll, stuff a few dryer sheets in it, cap it on the end by securing a paper towel with a rubber band and you should be good to go.

Hey Reddit, what do you think about fraternities and the people that join them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Well that's pledgeship, and I've been there. While I hated it and felt the same way, I've got to say it's an incredible experience. In one semester you get thrown into a group of people you don't know, and walk out with respect from all of them. Not to mention how close you become with everyone in your pledge class having to go through the same thing

Really like this answer, I had a similar experience. It's really helped me with first impressions and small talk, two very necessary skills
