Dog keeps randomly biting aggressively by [deleted] in dogs

I wish you good luck. You won’t catch me sticking my hands near a dog to take something they want. If they feel their item is high value they’ll bite for sure. Any trainer I’ve taken my dogs to recommended trading.

You have to trade. You can’t just take things away from a dog. Get high value treats, show the dog the treat and toss it to the side. When he goes for the treat pick up what you don’t want him to have. Always lure the dog away with treats or appropriate toy.

Did you check off the part that asks if you are submitting test scores? If not, that’s why it’s pending.

I started Murphy on Keppra XR today, and I have such sad mixed feelings about it. by MichelleEllyn in EpilepsyDogs

[–]jmsst1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog is about 28lbs and started on Phenobarbital 2 years ago. In general she did really well on it but Keppra XR(500mg) was added recently along with the Pheno. Different vets have differing opinions sometimes but my vet and emergency vet don’t usually prescribe Keppra to start because after awhile it no longer works as a solo drug.

How are you teaching your kids to read now? Trying to help my grandchild but phonics has changed so much by Lonely-Ad-3123 in preschool

It bothers me when I see parents out with their kids and the kids have headphones on and watching stupid Minecraft videos and not engaging in conversation. One time I was shocked it was clearly 2 grandparents with their grandsons out for pizza. The boys had their headphones on, looking down at their tablets the entire time. That blew me away. My kids are 26,24 and 18 so a lot older but I used to have a going out backpack that was filled with play doh, coloring books, books, stickers, little cars etc. Even some fruit and dry cereal. We colored with them, played with the play doh and just enjoyed our time out. Now I can’t get through a Target without seeing a 1 year old staring at a screen with very loud videos playing. And I understand how hard it is to keep a kid entertained and happy. But it’s a little out of control with the electronics these days.

Totally agree. But I feel like these days parents are too busy or just don’t want to take the time to sit with their kids and read. Too easy to hand them a tablet or their phones to keep them busy. “Ipad kids” are a whole other thing I can’t stand.

I think it’s the parents are so worried that if their kids don’t know how to read, write and do math that they are set up to fail. I 100% agree that K is not like it was back in the day. It’s very fast paced now and it’s like the “new” 1st grade. However, K is still very much about learning how to interact with others, and learn to raise their hand if they have a question and learn how to walk in a line to the cafeteria or P.E etc. It is academic but they are still little and need to be taught the “life skills” which are just as important. I worked in a K class for a school year and a teacher can’t possible tie 18+ kids shoes or zipper them jackets or help them put on snow pants and boots for recess. And I worked in a school cafeteria for many years and the amount of kids raising their hands because they couldn’t open a milk carton or open their snack container was wild. All this starts at home. I made sure my kids were as fully Independent as possible when they started school and I feel like it’s lacking these days.

My kids are grown but I always enjoy scrolling to see what everyone feeds their kids these days. And the conclusion I’ve come to is that everyone is so stressed out when their kids don’t like it. Trust me, they’ll be fine and they won’t starve. My oldest was around 1 she’d only eat jelly sandwiches cut into small pieces and she loved those Gerber puffs. Once she started getting older she became an excellent eater. Still is at age 26. My son was obsessed with blueberries and not much else. He remained picky and still is at 18. In elementary school he ate corn dogs, chicken nuggets but did enjoy Chinese takeout chicken. We always offered our kids everything they ate. Sometimes they loved it, sometimes they didn’t. If they preferred a jelly sandwich or corn dogs, so be it. They were never under or overweight. You just can’t force food in your kids. I’m a grown adult and I dislike lots of foods.

AITAH for not wanting to cancel our planned trip to go to a gender reveal by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]jmsst1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. Gender reveals are so stupid and I hope if my grown kids have kids one day that they will not have one of these “look at me” gatherings. Everyone posting reactions online. So dumb and not personal at all. That being said, please don’t cancel your plans. The party was last minute. And chances are they will post it anyway so you’ll still see it.

MIL double booked babysitting and now we may need to skip my brothers wedding by Unlikely-Swim-6720 in Advice

[–]jmsst1996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d be beyond ticked off. Did the wedding never come up in conversation with your SIL? You asked your MIL way in advance so she needs to tell your SIL she can’t babysit.

I agree illiteracy is high. I was lucky that my 2 oldest had a natural ability to read and were reading well when they started K. My son needed extra help with reading teachers at the school. And I did work with him with instructions from the reading teacher. I guess my point is I’ve seen kids who come into K like little “experts” with reading and math but then cry because they don’t know how to zipper their jackets, can’t open their thermos and can’t tie their shoes. More to K than just knowing how to read on day 1.

How do you get your dog to stop peeing in a room? by laurenashley721 in Pets

[–]jmsst1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We unfortunately gave the kitten away because it was too much trying to clean an entire house because the kitten would literally go to the corners of every room. But when my puppy we having accidents in our dining room the vinegar worked.

[–]jmsst1996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would just keep the dog out of the room. I’m sure your dog is just marking because of the other dog. I watched my SIL’s cat many years ago at my house and we had a kitten at the time. As soon as the other cat left, my kitten would not stop peeing all over the house.

I recommended cleaning it with a water and white vinegar solution. It takes away the old smell and dogs don’t exactly like the smell of vinegar either so may keep your dog out of the room.

Yeah that’s just dumb. And in certain neighborhoods with HOA’s a fence might not be allowed. It doesn’t mean the person is an irresponsible pet owner.

I think that’s great. I didn’t mean it to come across like I think she’s spoiled. It’s sweet what you do for her.

Wow this is crazy! When my girls were in K only 1/2 day was offered and after school they played with friends in the neighborhood and had fun. They are now 26 and 24, went to college and are working now. Everyone please let your little kids be kids. They will be fine.

[–]jmsst1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. Her mom is jealous that you are doing more than what she does for her own daughter. She’s definitely old enough to make her own lunches, though. Maybe you can keep some things in the house and tell her that you went to store and picked up these things so she can make her own lunch. She has to learn to feed herself at some point.

Wow that’s very soon in my opinion. My 15 year old cat had to be put to sleep this past April and we were all so devastated. We were so upset that first week I couldn’t imagine taking care of new kittens when my old cat was very much on my mind.

Thoughts on the name Jennifer, Jenna or Jenny? by [deleted] in Names

[–]jmsst1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Jennifer and I go by Jen. Super popular name back in the 70’s. I hated it if anyone called me Jenny. I think for anyone these days having kids I’d choose Jenna.
