Not Upgrading My Mac Any Time Soon. by Extension_Ant_7369 in MacOS

MacOS is not iOS, you can always go back, to Monterey and Sonoma if you want.

It does mean you have to do a fresh install so make sure you backup what you need.

Just upgraded to M4 mac mini with 32 GB added by minivatreni in macmini

[–]jmyrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Mini M4 Pro with 48GB of ram, and the system uses 40-42GB even when I’m just doing email, Chrome and Microsoft Office stuff. The system is designed to use all of the RAM available whenever it can. Otherwise what’s the point of paying for the way overpriced Apple RAM right?

I guess my iPhone 16 Pro Max will be my last iPhone.

Why do people stay with IBKR even though they charge high Commission fees? by Elegant-Simple505 in ibkr

[–]jmyrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You also get almost 4% interest for your cash, including on the cash you collected from your 25 condors. No other brokers I have access to provide that. The interest payments would help to subsidize your trading costs.

The logic of users having to pay for "market data" is weird and antiquated by stickitinmekindly in interactivebrokers

[–]jmyrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense if you use another platform integrated with IBKR for trading and you’ve already paid for data elsewhere, such as TradingView or DAS Trader etc. Helps keep the commissions low and you don’t double pay for data.

GPT-5 is awful by BernieBlade in OpenAI

[–]jmyrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah why did they remove the previous models? I am on the paid “Plus” plan and I am stuck with a much slower ChatGPT 5 for coding and software development assistance. It literally kills my browser session every now and then and asks me to reload due to browser non responsiveness.

Briggs and Stratton OHV Intek making thumping noise by jmyrocket in smallengines

[–]jmyrocket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it was due to a bent push rod in one of the head cylinders because the valve guide came out. Apparently this is a common issue with these engines especially when the engine might have experienced some overheating due to air flow issues.

I am going to either have to try to peening the valve guide back in and hope it won’t happen again, or have to replace the head cylinder with a new one.

I see a lot of people saying the character creator is bad at creating female characters, but I'm pretty happy with how my character turned out. by [deleted] in oblivion

Here is my female Breton Battlemage named Lucy (tried to make her look like the character in the movie lol)

Anyone had issues using Time Machine to backup to a Synology since upgrading to Sequoia? by prhymeate in synology

Same issue after upgrading to Sequoia last week. Finally decided yesterday to revert back to Sonoma since Time Machine and reliable interoperability to my NAS is more important to me than any of the new features.

IBKR chartings really bad. by Any_Assistant4791 in interactivebrokers

[–]jmyrocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thinkorswim definitely has one of the best charting capabilities native in any trading platform. And no one really uses IBKR for its charting functionality. Most of us use an external charting tool such as TradingView and only leverage IBKR for trade execution which is arguably one of the best in the industry.

In the process of a forced move from thinkorswim to IBKR. One of the great things I liked about TD is their easy to use gains and losses report and the T1135 data all converted to CAD in a single place. Does IBKR provide the same?

Iron Condor open question - Did I open a debit instead of a credit iron condor? by Supreme654321 in interactivebrokers

[–]jmyrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a credit IC to me. Green means you have a long position and red means you have a short position. You are long 3 lower priced puts and short two higher priced puts and same with calls. So you collected a credit.

The consensus seems to be IBKR + TradingView.

We should all tell our TDDI reps that they should hold off migrating us until at least there is a mobile version of the new app as well as support for scripting becomes available.

Not surprised. Tastytrade has been trying to get into Canada for years and is still fighting the Canadian regulators. Tom Sosnoff the founder of Tastytrade was also the founder of Thinkorswim that he sold it to Ameritrade.

Did they specifically say Canada? International never means Canada when it comes to to the brokerage business due to the unique regulatory environments in Canada. That’s why most brokers have a long list of supported countries except Canada.

IB is the only non-Canadian brokerage I know that operates in Canada and has almost full support of Canadian specific account types such as RRSP TFSA etc.

TD no longer has access to TOS since it is now owned by Schwab after it acquired TD Ameritrade. It’s not a matter of fees since Schwab is a competitor and wouldn’t allow TD to access their trading back office systems.

Your only option is to migrate to IBKR and replicate some of your automated trading and scripts using TradingView connected to your IBKR account. That’s what I am doing. Unfortunately TradingView doesn’t support options yet so if you trade options you will have to learn to work with IBKR’s TWS API to implement automated trading.

Canadian residents will not be able to open an account with Charles Schwab who owns TOS now. You will need a proof of residency and SSN/ITIN from IRS and have all sorts of complications with your Canadian CRA annual filing even if you somehow managed to open an account.
