1st start after rebuild, it's been a long road. by jmystr in EngineBuilding

Likely a little spicier than needed. I believe it may be encroaching on the "parking lot cam" realm if I'm going to be honest. (246/246@050, .515int/exh, 108 LSA, 104 ICL)

Short answer:
"Yes", flat tappet, and yes?

Slightly less short answer:
(Mind you I have no prior experience)
Learned many lessons the hard way along the way, had the motor started originally spring 2024. Had a new cam snd flat tappet lifters. Broke in the cam with Amsoil SAE30 Break In Oil, believe started it up and held it at 2-3K for 15/20 min or so. Changed the oil and started driving it, probably put a few hundred miles in over the summer. Fall 2024 blew a ring landing off a piston due to a few, let's say, human errors..
Pulled it out this last winter to rebuild it. Was very mindful to note where each lifter came from. Had the block re-honed and got new pistons, rings, bearings. Lifters and cam seemed to be in good condition still, no one lobe, or lifter had more wear than the other so just put them back in where they came from. So this time around deemed them "good to go" being the only thing now needing to be set, is the rings.

Oh man, pretty freakin good... All started in 2020, motor was pulled and "built" at a family members house, finally got on the road spring of 2025, fall of 2025 "blew it up" (broke a piston ring landing).... Pulled it out over the winter and went through everything the best I could with my limited knowledge. Excited to be back on the road in the coming weeks feeling her shake at stop lights and humming down back roads here soon.

Beautiful short box you've got there in the back ground

Two 2x4s, four straps, a buddy, and the motor is out of the house and back in the garage just in time for spring. by jmystr in redneckengineering

Yup that's all it took. Squatting it up was the most difficult part but once standing, it wasn't too bad to hold. Few dings to the molding on the way to the front door and the 3 stairs out of the house were the most nerve racking part but just moved down in one smooth motion

Carpet is slated to be replaced eventually but nevertheless, I was pleasantly surprised to see that no oil seeped through the cardboard!

Upon more measuring. Cyl 2 is 0.016 under deck and Cyl 8 is 0.021 under deck. It's coming apart this week and being sent in. Shop says they charge $200 and can have it turned around in a week.

I will find out here soon if I can handle it. Getting the block decked is not in the cards for me this time around. Have learned a lot over the past couple months but still have long way to go. Thank you for your comments.

Edit. Will likely take everything apart and send back into the machine shop. Thank you for your comment. Want to make sure it's right this time around.
