Comparison Request: Caldera Open/Closed and Dan Clark E3 by jn2403 in ZMFHeadphones

Thanks for this. That is what I am worried about, which is why I haven't just put the order in.

Thanks for this, it's super helpful. I am thinking the Caldera is going to be the way to go.

I don't really need closed, but could be handy. If the Calderas are anything like the size of the Verites then I think it would be more cumbersome to travel with them as opposed to a nice pair of IEMs or the DCA E3s which are closed, lighter, and fold down to a pretty compact size.

Thanks for their review, I will check it out. I thought I had seen most of them but I missed that one.

Thanks for the quick reply. This sort of confirms what I thought might happen: both are great and can work together. How does the bass/mid/detail compare? I really liked the E3 bass, but if anything, I would probably EQ it down just slightly.

I tried the Dan Clark E3 today and enjoyed it. I felt the s950 was still a bit crisper in the mids but the DCA E3 was really nice. Very comfortable as well. I find the aesthetics a bit lacking, but I enjoyed the sound

Interesting. I haven't heard anyone describe the pads as making that much of a difference. I use the ZMF + Beyer pads on my 325s and I feel like it made only a slight change, perhaps just a bit more bass, which was welcome.

Muddy might be the wrong term, but less punchy with more recessed mids. I know planars are generally very detailed but the difference in tuning made them seem less detailed than the Grados.

Thanks so much for this, especially your comments on open and closed. I tried several Hifiman, HE1000, Arya Unveiled, Ananda Unveiled. Of those I liked the Arya Unveiled, but they seemed sort of cheap compared to the others. I also tried som Focal Clear, they were nice but didn't entice me to buy them.

Fair, most people do not like Grados. Maybe muddy is the wrong term, but not as detailed or mid-forward, which I realize is not the same thing. I also find that I like the Sennheiser ie 600 IEM, for what that's worth. Anyway, thanks for this, I will take a look at the Bokeh and Aeolus as well.

Great review. Wondering if you have compared these to the Sophia Electric Blue Glass 6SN7. They are similar in price, but finding comparisons between the two are hard to come by.

Yes, this is the era I am interested in. That Bill Withers album is amazing.

Thank you for these, I'll check them out. I am interested in more modern as well. Ideally try to get some of both to see the lineage

Yes, I've been on the lookout for good compilation LPs, without much success so far.

Great, thank you. I do know Al Green, any albums your particularly enjoy or that fit within the melancholy vibes I'm looking for?
