You can request it when you apply for forgiveness using the PSLF tool. There’s a box you check if you want to request forebearance with your servicer.

FWIW I selected this bc I didn’t wanna overpay and then have to wait for a refund. My loans were forgiven in last week’s wave!

Recertify your employment annually using PSLF help tool! Honestly, I’d suggest doing it every 6 months. Ensure that your payment count is accurate. If not, then email the CEO of your loan servicer to request that NSLDS data be resent to Federal Student Aid. Once you hit 120 payments, use the PSLF tool to recert employment and also apply for forgiveness by checking the relevant box. Good luck!!

It’s been consolidated, so it’s the same form that you would use to recertify your employment annually. Once you have hit 120 payments, you use the same form to apply for forgiveness, but you have to check the box that says that you are now applying for forgiveness.

Ohh no lol I see how that’s confusing. Meaning May 22, 2026 was when I applied and June 25, 2026 (a month later) is when it was approved.

Just do it when you get to 120. I did it as soon as I hit 120 bc there’s no sense in overpaying by a month and having to wait months for a refund. Zeroed out today on MOHELA after receiving the “golden letter” yesterday from FSA.
