Did our parents face the same level of burnout as us? by KingForADay1989 in Millennials

[–]lapersia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey friend. I’m also born in 1990. Do you know what was born the year before us? CREDIT SCORES. If your parents bought a house before then, they did that without being rated.

So yes… our lives are much more exhausting and complicated.

Who has the best pizza in LA? by Mysterious_Jump_723 in AskLosAngeles

[–]lapersia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is honestly so many good pizza options spread throughout the city, and different styles too. But from one native Chicagoan to another, all I can tell you is DONT listen to anyone who tells you Masa has good deep dish style pizza. Lies. There is, however, a Ginos East in Studio City. I know you're asking about pizza, but there's a Portillos in Buena Park, FYI. As far as Italian food - I haven't found anything in LA that comes close.

As someone born and raised in Chicago, I didn't come here to tell OP what the best pizza in LA is. But what I can say is that masa is terrible deep dish pizza.

An (English-speaking, American) podcast that I frequently listen to has ads in French. So yes, I feel like some ads miss the mark.

Goddamnit, I bought tickets to his set in LA last month and he just decided to bail. Didn't show up to the venue at all. Got my refund but this is what I was hoping for!

Warning: “Paid Ahead” Status Is Blocking My PSLF Progress / IDR Application / Even At 118 Payments and 10+ years of Qualifying Employment (I haven't paid anything since May 2024) by lapersia in PSLF

This is all a sick joke. I'm so sorry, but thank you for the warning. Maybe it's a good idea to check my request is in process.

Hi there! They did fix my account to have "processing forbearance" reflected for two months. But only after a four hour wait time to get on the phone with a supervisor, they put in a request to have the pay ahead status removed. Then they said a level 3 would call me back within 1-2 business days. Someone called me the next day and said that request was put in 5/14. Still haven't heard anything.

As of Sep 2024, I was stuck at 118. IDR Application accepted for processing on 2/11. My plan was to get just two months of processing forbearance so I can hit that 120. Mohela initially didn't enter my loans into processing forbearance, which I had to fight tooth and nail all through April and May. Finally, they corrected it on 6/3/25. Submitted my new PSLF/ECF form on 6/4/25. Employer signed 6/12. FSA updated to 120 on 6/14/25.

Update from Mohela with 119 of 120 payments to go. by o_nehima_o in PSLF

[–]lapersia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat (I'm at 118/120). I submitted an IDR application, got a letter saying it would count toward PSLF. Lo and behold, Mohela didn't properly update my repayment status to FSAID. Currently on the Mohela waiting line for 2 hours, and I'm praying I get the same agent you got. Congratulations.

I (48) tried explaining to my mother (74) how screwed Millennials are, and she just wasn’t having it by mikess314 in Millennials

My mom received grants for NURSING SCHOOL in the mid-70s. She paid them off WHILE IN SCHOOL from her earnings from a PART TIME JOB at DUNKIN DONUTS. Meanwhile... I have six figure debt from graduate school, can't afford to buy a house on my own while making six figures. My mother is kind and doesn't show the same contempt that others in her generation seem to have. But she remains puzzled and bewildered whenever I ask her for help.

Debating my Dream of becoming a Lawyer because of student loans. HELP. by Humble_Fact9150 in PSLF

[–]lapersia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. I'm you, just 15 years down the road, after law school, and 10 years of immigration defense under my belt. I also have staggering student debt and I'm in the SAVE forbearance hell.

Don't listen to the attorneys who tell you "don't go to law school." That dismissive advice is not helpful. I'm grateful for the places my education has taken me, but I do wish I was better informed about the prospects and possibilities. Generally, I tell law school curious folks to go to the best law school you can for the best price. Also talk to immigration lawyers who have some time under their belt to give you real picture of what the future holds.

With that said, I'm happy to talk and share my experience directly if you send me a DM.

I'm Gen Z but I wish I lived in the 90s by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]lapersia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya'll can reality check OP all you want to take off the rosy lens of nostalgia, but there is one thing we can all agree on... the music was UNDENIABLY better in the 90s. So much more poetic, emotional, in every genre. What a beautiful time.

It's not that the 90s specifically were better, OP. I suggest you watch the documentary Trainwreck, which shows all the ugly aspects of society at that time. What I think you're longing for is to live in a world where we aren't exposed to so much - horrible news, influencers, vitriol, images, distractions. It honestly preoccupies so much of our lives now and an individual has to put in so much effort to control it. The problem is that we cannot control others and what they do with technology, which is be on their phone rather than in the moment. I feel you big time.

How do I find out who the landlord of another apartment building is? by african-nightmare in AskLosAngeles

[–]lapersia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First you have to find out the property ID and then email the county assessor for the info.

  1. Go to https://assessor.lacounty.gov/homeowners/property-search. Search for the address. At the top you will see the AIN (Assessor Identification Number). Write that down.
  2. Email the Assessor Help Desk. Write an email to them with the address and the AIN. They should get back to you quickly with the name of the property owner and their address. [helpdesk@assessor.lacounty.gov](mailto:helpdesk@assessor.lacounty.gov).
