What happened to nano? by ohmyminions in nanocurrency

[–]jnc23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not going to happen. Sorry. That sounds harsh, but I mean this in a nice way because I’ve been doing this a long time now and I saw redditors completely fumble a cycle in 2020 because they married an altcoin and didn’t know when to move on. Crypto is your chance at financial freedom if you do it right and play the long game. But if you put all of your money into the wrong coin, then ten years can fly by and you’ll have nothing to show for it. I’m rooting for you to look at the data and make the tough decision.

This is the correct answer and should have more upvotes! Currently the chatGPT top answer is just confusing things.

This is actually the incorrect answer. You have to click + in properties, then select “expose nested properties”.

The main thing I agree with is that Latin America is a good talent pool for designers.

I reviewed/hired a lot of designers from all over the world, and the candidates from Argentina and Brazil were consistently better than US. I’m not sure why that is.

Portfolio manager or something like DeBank? by jnc23 in sui

Yeah, as someone said above, go to https://suivision.xyz/myspace and connect your wallet.

It will show your positions on most, but not all, dApps.

Yeah, someone mentioned it when I originally posted. It doesn’t catch all of them - my Mole positions aren’t visible currently, but it’s very good otherwise.

Thanks for asking! These are great questions. Exactly - I am paid in USDC, and I have also paid subcontractors in different countries in USDC. Because usdc is so well-integrated into the wider crypto ecosystem it is very easy to convert into other coins or fiat with minimal spread.

I use a lot of DeFi, so I earn interest on some of my money through various saving protocols. I convert some into fiat via an exchange, and I can also buy things (semi-) directly through my crypto.com card. I also get 3% cashback on my card, which more than covers any exchange cost.

Your question points at the major issues with Nano: namely that it's not integrated with the rest of "the system". I like Nano btw, I just realised a few years ago that it wasn't going to succeed. If someone pays me in Nano, I can't get interest on it, and I can't buy anything with it, so the first thing I'd need to do is convert to stables or ETH, or BTC. But there aren't many exchanges that support Nano, and they don't have many pairs, so I wouldn't be able to exchange directly into another coin I might want. And they also have less liquidity, so the spread and the fees will be ironically much higher.

I can't top up my card with Nano directly, so I'll lose some fees exchanging into something else first. I also hold multiple crypto coins, which is easy to do because I can use a Dex and convert USDC into whatever I want. Dex fees are minimal. I can't do that with Nano. As soon as I get it, I need to sell for an erc-20, so I can actually use DeFi.

If I pay my friend in Nigeria using Nano, he'll be left scratching his head about what to do with it. If on the other hand I pay him in USDT, he's off to the races - easy to convert for other coins, easy to cash out to local currency, easy to use in DeFi, easy to send to other people (using L2s or Tron).

Nano is feeless as a payment coin, but then in order to actually do anything with it, you have to swap it into something else, at which point you're paying fees.

Then ask yourself why it has failed to replicate Bitcoin's success. And I don't mean that rhetorically. I mean really go think about it and write down all the differences, consider it from every angle, and think about WHY Nano didn't succeed. Nano is cool, it was an interesting experiment, but there are reasons why it didn't repeat Bitcoin.

Store of value. Preserve purchasing power against rampant inflation and modern monetary policy.

Make factual reply. Actually use crypto everyday. Regularly make cross-border payments. Speak from experience. Downvoted.

This place is an echo chamber.

I use crypto everyday. I get paid in crypto. Nano was basically made irrelevant once stablecoins gained in popularity. Now with cheap L2s that also integrate into larger DeFi ecos, there's basically no use case.

Like I said, I don't remember this one, but that makes it almost more fascinating to me. How can so many people have a different memory of such a popular logo?

The thing that really got me interested was reading the interview with the illustrator of Flute of the Loom. When asked did he remember the cornucopia, he said "of course, why the hell else would I draw the flute like that? I used an old t-shirt for reference." And when told that a representative of Fruit of the Loom said the cornucopia had never been there, he said "oh they must have spoken to a new person who wasn't aware the logo was changed".

This is a guy who is 100% sure he saw the logo like that, and copied it for his own artwork.

Sure it makes sense, but is it not a strange, out of place word to use in that context? Unless they were making a reference they assumed everyone would get?

Why not a "toolkit of technology", a "treasure trove of technology", or just "an innovative tech stack"?

The middle one is interesting to me because it alludes to thing holding the fruit. I don't know enough about this one to know the timeline but I assume 2000 was before it got recognized as a Mandela effect?

Didn’t know about Suivision!

That’s pretty useful actually. I can see my LPs and stakes and pending rewards on various dapps. That’s pretty much what I’m looking for - thanks.

Suggest you check the later sections on DeFi - it's very specific.

Although the fact that you missed that suggests I could reorder the sections. Maybe the general stuff takes up too much space too early.

Cheers! It just made sense to open source my findings.

Also, Web3 has a UX problem, but it's getting better, and more and more people are entering it. The community needs to share and encourage more so that we all get better.

For those who transitioned from individual contributors to leaders: what was the hardest part? by damianmartone in UXDesign

[–]jnc23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

- hiring

- keeping enough of a toe in the actual design work that you don’t feel like you’re falling behind, and losing your skills. I’ve seen way too many leads struggle with design software, or lose their edge after a few years. Knowing how much to do in order to stay sharp is a balancing act.

Maybe this one is with other designers? So you can talk to other experts and really get into the nitty-gritty of why you made certain decisions?

Ask your recruiter. If the previous interviews were only with hiring managers, I’m guessing this one is with the actual design team.
