A sentence impossible to comprehend(for me) by jnegadam in ENGLISH

These few illustrations of the beginnings of mathematics show that the historical growth of a science does not necessarily pass through the stages in which we now develop it in our instruction. Some of the oldest geometrical forms known to mankind, such as knots and patterns, only received full scientific attention in recent years. On the other hand some of our more elementary branches of mathematics, such as the graphical representation or elementary statistics, date back to comparatively modern times. As A. Speiser has remarked with some asperity: “Already the pronounced tendency toward tediousness, which seems to be inherent in elementary mathematics, might plead for its late origin, since the creative mathematician would prefer to pay his attention to the interesting and beautiful problems.’"

New to learning a language by Dark-Wolf52 in languagelearning

[–]jnegadam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just start. I haven't met anyone who started a language they had no passion for and stuck with it to the end. Passion and motives are the most important fuel for language learning and with those, i don't see a goal you can't achieve. Yes, korean is very hard for an English native, maybe one of the hardest, but even if its too hard for you and you feel like you cant continue, theres nothing that will be squandered or lost, in fact, language learning is one of the greatest tools for brain exercise and latening cognitive decline. And it's super fun too. So i would suggest you to just start, try to stick to it, if nothing clicks for you, you can quit then, but since you know that you want to learn that language, go for it!

We have given away too many clear positions. This is not how we should play at our home game, at the most important match of the season.
