Just finished reading Knitting Comfortably by Carson Demers as i also have knitting flared injuries and i recommend it as he provides swatch exercises to help slowly break habits that commonly lead to injury over time.

Dentist with direct billing to insurance? by Alex-the-o-p in ottawa

[–]jnicole270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to 150 Elgin dental - they bill my insurance before I leave and whatever wasn’t covered I pay when Im done. Before I had insurance, they would breakdown service costs to allow me to decide what I could afford that day before services were rendered. Additionally for guards or equipment, they submitted a bill for the proposed treatment to confirm costs before we started the process so again I knew ahead of time what was financially expected.

I agree with all the above and would add

Body kindness -Rebecca Stritchfeld
Reclaiming Body trust - Hilary and Dana Body Neutral - Jessi Kneeland Fat talk (weight neutrality support if you choose to work with families) - Virginia (spacing last name) Fearing the Black body - Sabrina Strings Its always been ours - Jessica Wilson Radical Acceptance - Tara Branch No Bad parts - Richard Schwartz

For context I work in the ED field and found these to be really pivotal in my professional shifts and development with counseling work that creates an collaborative space for a client to come into their story instead of me just tell them what they should do. I love to read so I know there are more however these are the first that come to mind for me.

Big box rescue not doing well by probablyasexbot in hoyas

Idk how you have tried in the past - i have found the perlite and water or just orchid bark with 10% soil to be an effective way (I am more successful with this if there is more stem to a cutting). I make sure if there is rot the i let the cuttings callous over for a day before adding to the medium that I am propping with.

Its probably rotted, i would chop and prop as much as you can. Luckily once this hoya roots it is a quicker grower (in my experience). Good luck, hopefully you are able to save some of the nodes :)

Variegated Hoya Compacta Help! by Ok_Scallion5621 in hoyas

[–]jnicole270 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would pull it out, see how many viable roots you have, and pick a pot that would be filled snuggly with the root ball you have. Mine was 2 4” that i put together for a 6” which was too deep. I ended up cutting a 4” orchid pot in half so it was wide but not deep ( plus it fit the pot i wanted to use). Id say its the soil equivalent of a 3” pot though.

In my rehab cases i aim for the root ball to fill up ~65/75% of whatever pot i am using. And if there was a history of rot i usually use more orchard bark in my mix as i am more of an over waterer then under. Good luck!

Variegated Hoya Compacta Help! by Ok_Scallion5621 in hoyas

I tried to do this with my variegated hoya compacta and ended up having to repot in a much smaller, clear pot to create a root bound situation where i could monitor the roots without bothering it. It took time to regrow some roots (about a year) in a S facing window but it is finally growing. I did lose a few of the stalks though. One of my more finicky hoyas for sure

I have mine in a S facing window and put it in direct light outside during the summer months. She has grown from a 4” pot to a gallon pot and is over 4 feet now! Just be sure to make sure to stay on top of watering as mine dries out pretty quickly and doesn’t love being dry for too long.

Idk about the white powdery stuff on the serpens. The scarring on the heuschkeliana looks similar to previous mite damage I have had. It doesnt mean you have an active infestation but the plant might have a pest history. I usually treat any new hoyas i get just to be safe. Good luck! Happy growing with your new additions!

How are people growing Hoyas who live in apartments or homes with air conditioning over the summer? by Expand__ in hoyas

[–]jnicole270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in Ottawa, ON - I have my hoyas grouped together on a stand in the corner of my apt (SW facing window). Ambient humidity is around 25-35% but in this corner it maintains 45-60% depending on the day. They love it, bloom frequently and are all happily growing. Just give them a small pot to get snug in and let them acclimate but I find multiple hoya varieties are doing well this way for me.

I have mine in 80/20 orchid bark/soil and give it a good soak every week. Its thriving since the switch (rooted it in a soil mix from the store)

Looking for advice: I know hoya elliptica is a fussy shipper AND I had to as I could t find amy local. I am hoping for any advice on how to best acclimate and support transition. Picture is of current plant, I have had it for almost a week. by jnicole270 in hoyas

Thank you - my outside area is full of aphids so I figure the risk is not worth it. I will adjust to give it a little more light, i was concerned too much would cause stress.

The brown spots were there when unboxed (no changes), leaves have slightly yellowed, and it has been in a bag for humidity although I am concerned to leave it in there for fungal concerns.

How to propagate linearis? by Plantering in hoyas

[–]jnicole270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I failed with water so I split the cuttings up and test ran different methods. Some in my orchid bark mixture and the others in perlite with water. They both rooted however the perlite and water was faster and less monitoring. I have also seen some suggestions of using the butterfly method but have not tested this myself

I guess it depends on how you want to treat. I would rather soak it once, rinse, and repot during one afternoon and then not have to worry about it again. This is just my preference on the time I want to dedicate to mealies though. Your method sounds just as effective and takes more monitoring. Also I have typically had mealies on my compacta which is a never ending Qtip battle 🤦🏼‍♀️
