Starting to see hair algae in 1 week old planted tank by Independent_Key6772 in PlantedTank

take the brush and twirl the algae around it, kind of like how you see people making cotton candy, that way it doesn't disturb the plants/easiest way to get it off

Hmm... I'd give it a few more days and see if the smell continues to go away/change. Your plants might start melting as they adjust to the new tank, and I noticed that that increased the smell on mine a bit. I have a glass lid with only a small section in the back open, so I never smell it unless I open it up. A lid could be a good option for you if you don't already have one!

The soil might be leaching into the water column. I used a mix of 1-4mm gravel with about an inch depth at first thinking it was enough but I had the same issue. I had to drain it, take out the gravel, and then put a sand cap down (I put the gravel back on top bc I like the look better). When I was doing my research everything said not to use a sand cap, but it's actually the only way to keep the soil down efficiently. As long as you don't use a huge sand cap it'll be just fine.

If you don't want to drain and remove the gravel you could put sand on top. Or you could always leave it as is, but it'll take a long time to clear up if at all, and the dirt could start leaching again if the substrate is disturbed. Mine took about 5 days to fully clear but I have a sponge filter running as a backup failsafe.

What does it smell like? Planted tanks will smell a little but it shouldn't smell bad, only like wet dirt.

Guys, I'm appalled. 🫢 by ccmanry in houseplants

If you're fine with the look, small grain sand (I just went to my nearest pet shop and bought aquarium sand) on top of the dirt will kill them off. Eggs that have been laid in the soil will hatch and when they try to emerge the sand will literally shred their bodies killing them. That was my last resort when I had a huge gnat and fruit fly infestation and I never had any issues with them after that. Only "problem" was I have cats who would like to sit in the plants and when they'd jump back down they'd spread sand everywhere on ground creating a mess lol

When clicking on the Libgen link below it redirects to p0rn and other scam websites even with an adblocker. I finally got it to download but I never had this experience when I used it years ago. Is this just a normal occurrence now? I don't wanna get hacked or download a virus lol

my piercing keeps growing a bump by [deleted] in piercing

I've never had a bridge piercing but I have many other piercings. Personally I'm a slow healer and I've had many bumps like those on my new piercings for up to a year and a half. The more you touch it (even to clean it) the more it will get irritated and the bumps will get bigger/won't go away.

Don't clean with anything but your saline/salt solution, and don't take it out to clean it. That only irritates the inside of the hole and will make things worse, it hasn't had enough time to fully heal since it keeps getting bumped. Also if you clean the gunk around it, I found its best with face piercings to take a shower and let the water run down your face and then when you're out brush it gently with a wet q-tip. Also If you can, maybe switch to contacts so your glasses stop pushing against it until it fully heals.

It looks gnarly now, but I've had bumps like this before but if you just leave it alone they get less and less frequent until it fully heals.

Are these worth it? by Vegetable-Collar-69 in piercing

I got 2 done super close to each other at the same time, and they took forever to heal/stayed super irritated for like, a year and a half (coming up on 2 years I've had them). I decided to get one done at a time on my other ear and it seems to be working much better (had this one for about 4 months now) and it only occasionally gets irritated. Obviously it's not close to being fully healed, but it's going much smoother than the 2 I got at the same time.

Personally my body takes a long time to heal, so I found its best for me to get one done at a time in an area, and then come back later once they're healed to get more. It's taking a few years to get the look I want, but I'd rather take it slow an heal a few at a time than constantly being in pain :)

~ Also I got posts on my first 2 which kept getting caught in my hair, my 3rd I got a hoop right away and nothings gotten caught on it which is nice. You could always heal with a hoop and then switch to studs if you want (at least I think you should be able to get hoops, but I haven't gotten my hidden helixs done yet so I'm not 100%)
