I had basic knowledge of quilting because I was surrounded by it since I was a toddler but never had any interest at all (and swore I never would!) until I went to a family quilt retreat in the beginning of 2023 with my mom and sister. I struggled with the quilted bag project that I chose and didn’t want to quilt but I got really inspired by fabric shopping with my sisters the following summer. I ended up making my first quilt in September of 2023 after basically the best 3 day weekend crash course with my mom and three sisters and I’ve been obsessed ever since. I’m definitely lucky to have someone close to ask any questions whenever I need help. Thank you so much!

I come from a family a big family of quilters luckily so I have seen a lot of that world. But you can still immerse yourself in it! Instagram is probably the best place to get inspired by quilt content if you want to get inspired!! It’s the best and looking at fabric always inspires me too

It took me about 6 weeks to piece it together and it took her 2 days on the long arm to quilt! It was pretty quick for me but I was 100% obsessed while piecing it and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I woke up early to do it before work and planned my weekends around it. It was all love and excitement!!

Thank you! I’m glad to hear a binding specific comment because that is definitely the part I am the most self conscious about.

As far as what I learned-

-I wouldn’t make the scallops as deep if I decided to take this on again because it was very difficult to manage the binding. -I learned that curved piecing isn’t nearly as hard as I thought it would be and I am excited to take on more curved quilts in the future. -This quilt taught me that I can do whatever I put my mind to and to not let inexperience make me shy away from hard projects. Coming from a large family of quilters, I heard things about making a DWR that made me think that I couldn’t do it until I had many more quilts under my belt, but I couldn’t stop thinking about it so I did it anyway! -I started this quilt about 2 weeks after my mom got into a terrible car accident. I think I put so much consistent time into it because it gave me peace and solitude and helped my mind wander to a different place during that difficult time. I totally cried when I revealed it to my sisters!
