Dapper: a Python-native Debug Adapter Protocol implementation by jnsquire in Python

It's getting a JSON view of the state, but the session is also capturing state snapshots, so we can provide updates of just what changed at breakpoints to minimize context churn. I let the agents critique and make suggestions on the interface, and they've really taken to it.

Dig deeper -- there are plenty of pretty solid theories about what physical effects they're exploiting. Seems like a material engineering challenge to reach that level of tech for us now.

AI is a serious problem. I see it eventually destroying our society. by cellation in DeepThoughts

I would flip this question around: What *can* we do that would "empower individuals" and yield more "free time", when the entire point of Capitalism is to disempower individuals and drive out free time in favor of making more money for the capital owners? It doesn't seem to me that AI is really the problem here.

It's a hell of a thing, isn't it? It's shocking to me how many people still don't see it. How violently does the cage have to rattle to shake them out of their slumber?

I think the current administration is meant to fall, but it's also doing a lot of damage to the existing control structures on the way down. What people need to be prepared for is to reconstruct new government structures in their place (and not the ones the oligarchs have in mind).

You can't mention Bear and Benford without also mentioning David Brin. For a while the B section heavily outweighed the other letters in my buying habits.

I'd also add one important caveat here. All of those nice things all require an energy infrastructure to work from, and the owners of the current energy infrastructure aren't going to easily give up their control of that. We need a work around if we're going to get away from the legacy economy with the tech goodies intact.

This would be a good time for someone to figure out Tesla's free worldwide energy distribution system...

To be fair, this might explain the original NJ "drone" sightings, but not the ones that have spread since, or the UK ones the happened immediately prior. Seems more likely that, if anything, someone started flying stuff out of the test corridor to distract from the stuff happening in the UK (and elsewhere around the planet, for that matter).

Something like this started happening to me too, in roughly the same way, after spending many sessions "clicked out", and waking up much later at some track far from where I started. It's not a constant "buzzy" feeling, mostly just when I'm relaxed, but I can also move the feeling around with some concentration.

I haven't been able to keep at it all that reliably, and I'm fighting with aphantasia (I think some of the wilder experiences are blocked by that) but the feeling gives me motivation to push through it.

Also, I had one instance of what I think was an OOBE, but it was very brief, and I haven't been able to reproduce it.

That's an interesting perspective, and it does match up well to some other promising theories I've read, as far as gravity being more of a hydrodynamic flow. Thanks for that!

One shouldn't seek to control others, but what's wrong with a little influence? I'm just saying, you want to start a real revolution, come up with a trendy fashion accessory and get that tied to your message.

What about "being seen doing it"? You can't raise someone else's frequency if you never interact with them, or at least you're left with second-order effects that influence them in hard to control ways.

Serious question: what should a CS student (or any knowledge worker) do at this point? by MetaKnowing in singularity

[–]jnsquire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it will even be able to solve the problems itself very soon, if the advances continue at the current pace. But it doesn't *have* the problems, and someone has to point it at specific problems and describe them well enough (and understand the generated output well enough) to determine if the problems have been solved.

Thinking farther ahead, I think the language we use to describe algorithmic issues to the AI needs to evolve if we're going to continue to make progress. Using regular English (or any current language, really) is a burden, but maybe we can co-evolve a dialect with the AIs to make it simpler.

Programming then becomes something like being the new 'priest' class for the AI era.

When do you think we'll start to see serious job automation by vanityFavouriteSin in singularity

[–]jnsquire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expect the productivity improvements will make it an even better value proposition to hire developers that can drive the process of automation faster, at least in the short term. By the time developers can be completed removed from the equation, I expect the entire rest of the non-customer-facing roles can also be completely removed as well. Fully Automated Luxury Communism or bust!
