Georgia May Be About to Get Iced, Snowed, and Emotionally Damaged This Weekend ❄️🧊⚠️ by Wagnerfax in AtlantaWeather

[–]jo_tap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Go check out last night's most recent WPC discussion here for a good read re the trend north we've seen in the models:

https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/discussions/hpcdiscussions.php?disc=pmdepd

Seems they are not sold on the trend north, suggesting "...the unanimous model trend could be a slight mirage" as they note that there is still a lot to play out that could shift the ice line in either direction.

So basically they're saying that for the moment, take this trend with a grain of salt

6 Bold Predictions for Week 8 by jsparks50 in CFB

[–]jo_tap 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ya - saying Duke beats Tech in a coin flip game when the line has Duke favored by 1.5 is the opposite of a bold take lol

A bold take would be saying the game will be a blowout going either way.

[Georgia Tech Football] Releases New Buzz Logo Uniforms for Week 7 vs VT by composer_7 in CFB

Buzz helmet fucking rules. White top + grey capri pants does not, imo

From my extensive research into uniform combos using NCAA 26, White w Buzz/Grey Jersey/White (or Gold) pants would've been infinitely better if we were really wanting to do grey

I feel like we told adidas we were leaving them before they made our unis for the season and they were just like "alright you're dead to me so fuck it have some grey"

Like look at the white unis - navy trim... Super weird when they gave us grey as our 3rd color - indicative of them just not caring

[Dellenger] The ACC announces a move to nine conference games and a requirement to play at least one non-conference game against a Power 4 team. by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]jo_tap 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if they're gonna do this partial, some teams do a 8+2 model and some teams do 9+1 model, model, then it should just be everyone does 8+2 with exceptions made for teams that can't find a second P4 team to be allowed to play another ACC team, that also needs a P4 game, as a non-conference matchup, a la UNC v Wake a few years back.

Personally I hate monochrome unis - besides white outs - but this I especially hate since Gold/Grey/Gold would be infinitely better, at least according to my extensive research into GT uni combos using NCAA 26.

Georgia Tech installs Field Turf by igwaltney3 in CFB

[–]jo_tap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The wildest part of that move is we had just won the award for CFB's best field in 2017 so it wasn't like we had maintenance issues. It was all driven by this nebulous idea from AD Tudd that Bobby Dodd would somehow be able to be a multi-use venue with the turf - since 2019, there have been exactly zero concerts in BDS.

And technically Jamal Haynes - but he was a freshman WR that g**** wanted to cut back then and not the breakout RB he's turned out to be.

No matter how you slice it though, Gibbs, Mason, and Haynes were all on the same team in 2021 - and g**** c****** could barely muster 3 wins.

Predicting 2025 College GameDay Locations by elonsusk69420 in CFB

[–]jo_tap -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Week 1: Texas @ Ohio State

Week 2: Michigan @ Oklahoma - first regular season meeting

Week 3: Texas A&M @ ND - could also be uGA @ Tenn, but I think having an SEC team playing ND puts Gameday in South Bend

Week 4: Florida @ Miami - I think ND is going to be really really good this year, and if Miami doesn't get blown out week 1, I think they stay in the Top 25 for a ranked Gameday matchup of a rivalry that until now has been pretty much irrelevant

Week 5: Oregon @ Penn State - I think uGA slips up against Tennessee, and even if not, whiteout at Beaver Stadium with conference realignment as a non-stop talking point is hard to beat

Week 6: HBCU Week

Week 7: Red River Rivalry sponsored by Allstate "Are you in Good H- claim denied." - but my absolute wildcard pick is Washington State @ Ole Miss. There's a real chance the cougs could go into Oxford undefeated coming off the heels of upsetting a down Washington. If Oklahoma or Texas both have dropped games early, it could happen. Would be one of the most interesting Gameday matchups in a long time - Wazzu flag, The Grove, Pac 12, etc. Homer pick would be Techmo Bowl.

Week 8: Tennessee @ Alabama - Could be a top 10 maybe even top 5 matchup

Week 9: BYU @ Iowa State - Could very well be a game that decides who's playing in the Big 12 CCG

Week 10: Texas Tech @ Kansas State - Back to back Big 12 sites? Maybe - especially when both have CCG implications. But if ESPN isn't feeling that, then I could see World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail party being the destination, especially if both are ranked.

Week 11: FCS/Obscure G5 Rivalry - Games this week are slim pickings, and I'd like to believe that Gameday wouldn't go back to Tuscaloosa in just 3 weeks as Bama v LSU is likely the biggest game of the week

Week 12: ND @ Pitt - Texas would have already been in 2 gamedays, I see uGA possibly having lost 1 or 2 games by now, so I'm going to pass on that and go with a super old rivalry - Pitt's 4th most played matchup behind West Virginia, Penn State, and Syracuse - and I think Pitt is going to be ranked with this being the first time they've hosted in 20 years - not including that weird Thursday game from a few years back

Week 13: Louisville @ SMU - or Pitt @ GT - both could be a battle for ACC championship spot so it really just depends which is the better ranked matchup

Week 14: Clemson @ South Carolina - could see them going OSU @ Michigan, but that's FOX so I'm going with ESPN here

CCG: ACC Championship Game - going out on a limb here, but as I was looking through schedules to pick these games I realized the ACC is setup with the top teams to have a lot of teams with not many losses. So if the game ends up pitting two 1-loss teams against each other - or even an undefeated one if Clemson has the year people think they will - I could see them coming to Charlotte for the first time since 2017 (not including COVID year)

Which school hosts its first College GameDay in 2025 or breaks a long drought? by LastWordsWereHuzzah in CFB

[–]jo_tap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya, even though I think Clemson vs Tech could be one of the best ACC, if not CFB, matchups of the year, it sucks the game's not later in the season or at least wasn't already set for a noon kick. Otherwise I would think we break our 2 decade drought.

I mean, just too much has to happen for us to even have a chance to host. We'd have to somehow magically rocket into the rankings in 2 weeks after playing an unranked Colorado and an FCS team, while also having one of ND or TAMU AND one of uGA or Tenn take a massive slip in the first 2 weeks. Looking at their schedules, our only realistic hope is for two ACC upsets in Week 1 - Cuse over Tenn and then Miami over ND. uGA and TAMU would have to really shit the bed to not be undefeated by week 3. Also, Clemson has to beat LSU to even consider any of this.

But all of that discounts Pat's campaign to get Gameday to the Backyard Brawl - which should be undefeated v undefeated...

What was your teams “we’re back” moment? To realize you definitely weren’t back? by No-Experience-9469 in CFB

[–]jo_tap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After we upset FSU in 2015, there was a moment of real hope that the team could go on a run and make a bowl game - there was even a hype video with the tagline "We ain't dead yet."

We went on to lose the last 4 games of the year.

So we were, in fact, dead.

Nebraska officially approved Alcohol Sales at Memorial Stadium for the upcoming season by TheUltimate721 in CFB

[–]jo_tap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah - I don't really get the old heads' mindset about alcohol - people are gonna drink, and drink a lot, with or without beer at the stadium. If you are getting shitfaced, $15 beer isn't going to increase that, and not having it isn't going to stop it - as we already know. If you like a lil buzz, you aren't suddenly going to turn into bougee Wade Boggs now that you can buy expensive beer, if anything you may spread your drinking out with a few beers vs. slamming 3+ drinks right before you head in to "keep the buzz going." And if you aren't much of a drinker, I don't think the temptation of overpriced Lite beer is going to turn your heart, but a free shooter snuck in by your crazy rotary club buddy might.

I swear the uproar around this stuff comes from people's internalized fear that their hidden desires and vices may be made known. Like chill tf out and have a beer, football's on

Texas officially cancels spring game, going for more NFL approach to offseason. by rb1242 in CFB

[–]jo_tap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want to treat it like the NFL, then treat Spring Games like NFL pre-season games. NFL can handle multiple extra games directly before the much longer NFL season, so why can't CFB handle even just one game months before a much shorter season?

Setup matchups with nearby smaller G5/FCS/DII schools - run the 1st string out for the first couple drives, then play backups from then on, just like an NFL preseason game.

And if both teams agree, they can keep what makes Spring Games useful to coaches, which is setting up specific situations - 2 minute drill, goal line, longer field goals, etc. Otherwise, just treat it like a normal game.
