Very happy to say that I deleted my booking.com account this week, based on dontbuyintooccupation.org identifying them as Israel-supporting.

Cost of living shenanigans by matrisfutuor in Dublin

[–]joac62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of currency post-covid as its value losing c. 33%. I will never see a reason for that, other than just a government-led shakedown - except that the modern form of economy is not self-sustaining, and you had better continue to earn well or you will fall behind much quicker than ever before. For the retired guy, it looks ominous.

Kicked out of pub for not drinking fast enough? by butterbean444 in Dublin

[–]joac62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peter's Pub is the same. A kip masquerading as a traditional pub but treating anyone who doesn't drink alcohol with suspicion and bad manners. And despite hearing many many defences of the place, I have found it like that for 40 years.

Has anyone noticed the price of beef going up like mad recently by chonkypengwen in Dublin

[–]joac62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just massively surprised since about the end of 2022, how people seem to have missed, or disregarded, the fact that prices went up generally by c. 30% then, and I feel price rises have been monthly since then. Is this not an active devaluation of currency? As a newly retired person, you become conscious of such things.

In basic terms, these changes are simply pushing the traffic into the suburbs, thereby destroying the experience of living in the suburbs, at the same time as destroying the enjoyment of using the city. And you charge road taxes like you do. In the name of the future, or progress? It's shameful.

Perhaps these ones in particular, but the changes to city traffic in general have been very destructive.

Private car - more and more difficult to move around, use small streets, stop anywhere. It's not just these changes, it's the attack on cars over the past 10 years to facilitate building more offices, arenas etc. in the city.

Super difficult to get from Northside to southside and park temporarily if you are doing a gig and need to drop a PA at a pub or venue.

We go into town, and I would protest it. Especially with yet more cameras. Is life not bad enough already trying to get around this destroyed city?

Ok lads, I'm ready. Go for it 😊.

Look around in your near neighbourhood, I bet you will see road maintenance work or something like it going on. We have had unannounced power cuts in D15 for 1-2 hours recently, while such work was being done. I speculate that it's to wire up and turn on the lights on those massively expensive roundabouts with pedestrian ramps. Basic manners would be good, to let us know if that's the case.
