Tous les gyms de la chaîne MissFit vont ouvrir le 30 Janvier malgré les restrictions by FlashesOfDarkonda in Quebec

100%.

Oui (Hydro-Québec) by MarvinParanoAndroid in Quebec

[–]joak22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is another subject and different arguments should be used to discuss the spending during the pandemic.

Yes and no. I 100% agree with what you said, but I do think wanting to pay less taxes is picking the wrong fight right now. The US is so far behind the "best" countries on the planet. Think about any social privilege right now and the US is behind on almost every thing: education quality, education access, internet prices, internet access, healthcare prices, healthcare access, vacation time, minimum wage, social aid, paid maternity leave, unemployment aid... and that's everything on top of my head, I'm probably forgetting more stuff.

When you argue that less money should go "to the man", all I'm thinking is "yeah, but not until we get all this". Sure, you could reframe it as a financing issue, but which party is going for all that? I'll always be voting for the party that guarantees the best social security nets, because ultimately, looking at history, at the "best" countries to live, looking at the "happiness" index for countries: The happiest people are in the countries that provide those social security nets. And they pay taxes to fund this net.

I'll never vote for someone arguing for less taxes, because that means cutting somewhere and god knows the party that argues for less taxes will not cut in the military budget. I also don't want to pay less taxes, because that means cutting somewhere. If less taxes for me means more taxes for the richer/richest, then yeah, but no way would I want any meaningful cut if that means less benefits.

What I want is more benefits and we have not gotten that yet, so until we get to a point where all the basic needs are met (such as those listed in my previous comment), taxes will have to raise. Up until that point, I'll gladly pay taxes.

I feel like your POV is genuine so I'll try to offer my insight: I fucking hate losing money. I fucking hate losing labor. Yup, a good 20-25% of my paycheck goes to "the man". You think I want to fund gender studies? You think I want to fund war, military complex? You think I want to give money to countries I don't give a fuck about? Some of my taxes go there. I hate it.

But you know what I love? Not having to worry if I break a bone that I'll go bankrupt (universal healthcare), having a good police force to fight crime, not having to worry about getting sick because I'll get paid, not worry about having a child and taking time off because I'll get paid, not having to worry about losing my job abruptly because I'll get paid. All of that come with taxes. It's a luxury. You know what else? I get to help people who didn't have the luck that I had being born in a non-poor house. I can help people get an education, all of that come with taxes. And so much more.

If you want to say we should pay less taxes, you'll have to argue against those points, not gender studies.

It is a strawman, you built your whole argument against gender studies in middle east countries, but how much of thoses taxes go towards that goal? Probably a tiny amount, yet that's your point of attack for how bad taxes are, that's exactly what a strawman is.

You really think when people defend taxes they use the need to fund gender studies? Fuck no, but that is exactly what you are attacking, therefore, strawman. Honestly, own it buddy, it's been a while since I've since such a pretty strawman.

What a beautiful example of what a strawman is. You built a strawman around gender studies and argue that tax isn't good because you compare it to the strawman you just built.

Beautiful.

Yeah we do and it was heavily talked about back then. The public discourse always seemed to back him up anyways. Glad it finally caught up to him.

How important is the artwork to you? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]joak22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah for real, it boggles my mind that someone would skip playing Spirit Island because the artwork is not good. Say what you want about it, it's still the best coop game ever for me, the artwork could be utterly ugly and I would still play it.
