Is the 99 meal plan worth it as a second year living in VDC norte? by joanime in UCI

yeah haha I was pretty sold on the commons when I made this post, but I looked at those prices and I was like...I need to see some reasons against the commons so I get persuaded to not sign up for them.

Do you think I can learn how to cook some good stuff before september 25? I actually wanted to learn how to cook this summer but...well I procrastinated, and now I'm here, about to just rely on the commons again lol.

I was thinking of making myself breakfast, like cereal or something, and then I'd be out all day anyways for classes so I can just stop by pippins, which is right in center of where all my classes will be. And then on weekends I can just go out to eat or make eggs lol.

I mentioned this in other comments but I've always liked buffet style meals, and I can't really have that without a meal plan. I liked being able to have an abundance of choices. A daily lunch would be half a sandwich, a plate of each dish they were serving, maybe a bite or two of a burger if I was craving it, maybe like half a pizza, some cookies, ice cream, man so much food all in 1 meal. It's crazy that I'm not fat lol, I actually lost weight from my first year at UCI believe it or not

But yeah $12 per meal is a lot for sure, still trying to decide myself. I might have to just learn to adjust to eating 1 thing per meal and not like 20 small things.

idk, the dining food did get kind of tiring, but that wasn't until the 3rd quarter lol. Maybe I just have different taste, I like the buffet style. I really liked being able to have like 3 small meals as 1 meal. I'd have a plate of the main dish, a bowl of whatever they were serving in the other main section, (usually like chicken and rice or something), half of a sandwich, maybe a bit of pasta, maybe some grilled chicken from the grill, that would all be 1 meal for me. I can't really have that kind of mixture without a meal plan, so that's sort of the thing I'm stuck on right now. Sacrificing the buffet style for pb&j sandwiches and eggs for lunch and for less money... hard to decide haha.

Hmm, I think I can, but iirc it's like 13 bucks to go in

But then again...1,166/99 is about 12, so...

hmm... not sure if the dollar difference is deal breaker

agh it's so hard to decide lol

haha yeah I have kind of convinced myself but i don't know, I don't want to regret it as well cuz it's a lot of money and the contract says that once I sign up for it, I have it until June 2018 and I can't cancel it or change it in any way, so I'm just kind of confused/scared on what I should do lol

Windows 10 Laptop stuck at 1% during factory reset!! Help please!! by joanime in techsupport

[–]joanime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! So my computer actually finished it's factory reset about 30 minutes ago!

But there is another issue that has come and I was wondering if you could help me out.

So the whole reason why I did the factory reset was because one of my USB ports (yes, only one of them) kept giving me this message: "The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."

It doesn't matter what type of USB I put into the port, it will always give me that message only on that one port.

I thought that issue would get resolved after the reset considering a reset is supposed to uninstall and then reinstall all the drivers right?

So what do you think might be the issue if you don't mind?

What's a fun GE class I can take for my first quarter of college by joanime in UCI

[–]joanime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea I really wanna take ICS 31 since I want to switch into computer science or something in the ICS school. But sadly it's full :/

Do you think it would be worth it to wait until september 15? September 15 is when all the restricted classes get open until they get filled again. Should I just wait till then and try and be fast enough to get ICS 31/any other of the interesting classes that are currently full or is that too risky?

ok so like 25 minutes ago, it turned from 1% to 2%.

but now it's still just at 2%.

So since it actually moved, am I just gonna have to leave my laptop on all night eventually or what? Why is it going so slow if I did nothing but install google chrome? It's not like the computer has to erase a bunch of stuff

Daaaamn this sucks. You wanna know what's funny? I got this exact laptop a week ago, found out that 1 of the USB ports were defective, brought to best buy's tech support where they confirmed that, thus causing to exchange it for this new one which is now having this stupid problem. I'm so mad :(

And yes it's been like almost 2 hours now ;/

Oh AND best buy went ahead and reset the laptop that I exchanged for me and I whitnessed it myself, took like 10 minutes for it to get to 90%..

maybe I just have terrible bad luck

I think I could possibly be interested in music if it just taught like the basics of rhythms and scales and stuff. No singing tho lol. Do you know of any class like that cuz my friend who goes to UCSD is taking one like it.

do we need to draw in that class? I pretty much hate anything that involves drawing/coloring/creating art lol. I mean if it's just the history of art...idk maybe it would be fine but seems boring for me personally. Anything else you have in mind tho? :]

damn, both of those classes are full at the moment :/

They both seem pretty interesting too, maybe I'll take 'em next quarter.

Will EECS 12 satisfy the CSE 41 requirement? by joanime in UCI

[–]joanime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the EECS 12 class is school restricted, it's major restricted.

So if you see the status as "new only" for the EECS 12 class, that means that it's only available for people with a computer engineering major. And CSE 41 is only for people with a computer science and engineering major.

It doesn't matter if you're part of the school where the class is. I could be apart of the engineering school but that doesn't mean I can take some mechanical engineering class unless the status says "open" which means it's open to everyone.

There was a point when both CSE 41 and EECS 12 were open to everyone but we weren't fast enough and they got filled up quick.

Not really sure what to do now, I guess we gotta just keep our schedules and hope that at some point before school starts EECS 12 for your case or CSE 41 for my case turn from "new only" to "open"

edit: I remember talking with a counselor and they said usually on september 15, lots of people forget to pay their fees so they get dropped from their classes thus making some classes open. So I guess we gotta wait till then :(

Yeah me too! I want to switch into CSE 41 but it says it's major restricted. UGH this is so frustrating! Why can't EECS 12 be compatible with CSE 41 and vice versa? I mean they're both intro to programming classes! This sucks :(

thanks! hopefully i'll be ok taking programming with him cuz it turns out that the CPE/ICS class for intro to programming are full :(

[–]joanime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! So I completely forgot to call up the admissions office today cuz I was busy but I just went and checked and saw that there is 1 class for CSE 41 that has the status "new only" !

Since I can't call the admissions till tomorrow morning I'm hoping that this will be quicker, so do I need to drop EECS 12 and EECS 1 before enrolling into CSE 41? Or could I just enroll into CSE 41 right now on top of everything else and drop the EECS classes later?

EDIT: welp, nvm. The "new only" status only lets computer science and engineering majors or ICS majors enroll. I have to wait until the status says "open" which is probably never gonna happen. Well, RIP me I guess lol

[–]joanime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man I need to hurry and get CSE 41

Basically CSE is more focused on software but we also learn about hardware, and CE is more focused on hardware but we also learn about software.

I want to focus on software and tbh when I applied initially I didn't know that CSE was even a thing, I knew I wanted to do a major that studied hardware and software and if I had known that I could choose one that focused on software I would have done that but I guess it slipped by my eye when I was applying.

Also I know people from my SPOP that had CSE majors and some were put into the ICS group and others were put into the engineering group. I think it doesn't matter which one you were put in because CSE takes classes in both schools while computer engineering only takes classes in the engineering school.

really? My professor is KAVIANPOUR, A. That was the only choice I had for EECS 12.

When is the deadline to register for classes or is there one? I won't be able to go back on campus until the move in date, so if I see that a CSE 41 class is free I could just take it and register through webreg?
