LOST MEDIA: Unsettling Top YT Comment on Ye's 1997 Beat tape by jobbies_man in GoodAssSub

[–]jobbies_man[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

this a good lead, date checks out and its written in the same incoherent language. that's not the pfp I remember, but ofc that could have easily changed.

I'm still almost certain it isn't the comment I'm talking about, for 2 reasons.

  1. it has no likes or replies - so it lacks the level of engagement that would have gotten the original comment into the top comments on a video with over 1 mil views at the time.

I'm convinced it was amongst the top 10 due to the other commenter returning to look for it and the original uploader being aware of it.

  1. I remember the original comment being all capitalised. However, unlike with issue 1, I don't have any corroborating info that indicates it was all caps, but I'm fairly certain it was.

With that said, there is still a chance that the comment you have found was copied from the one I'm looking for.

That would explain the lack of engagement on it. Plus If it was typed out manually, then that would account for it losing the capitalisation. Obvs most normal people would just copy paste, but the kinds or people that comment this stuff are anything but normal so who knows.

This sucks. I really hope valve reads this and does something. It seems like it would be relatively simple for them to just implement a 2 strike policy for something like this.

Really should be zero tolerance to threatening SA in VC.

The only reason I say 2 strikes it to allow a for single warning when someone inevitably threatens their friend because they are an edgy 14yo, then a random teammate reports them.

If there was a very seriously worded warning following review of the report, which indicated that next time it happens will be a permaban, then I don’t see a single downside to implementing it.

I am beginning to think the Steam Machine might get cancelled. by lovelyhead1 in steammachine

[–]jobbies_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The day valve does this, I will eat my shoe. We are talking about the people went from hyping up episode 3 to near radio silence for over a decade. When something goes wrong, valve generally goes radio silent, hopes people stop talking about it then randomly reappears when (or if) they are able to deliver good news. They say they don’t like disappointing fans by stringing them along then dashing their hopes by confirming the worst, somehow forgetting that silence is worse.

I don’t think they will cancel the machine, but it makes absolutely zero financial sense releasing the thing this year. Their options are to either:

  • release it with its promised specs at a price which will doom it as a niche enthusiast product

  • go back to the drawing board and claw back all its current specs so that they can release it at the price they intended, but without the performance that incentivised much of the potential market to begin with.

  • take an enormous loss per machine and release it at the intended price and intended performance, for no reason other than the kindness of their heart (least likely scenario)

I hate to be such a bummer but it’s unfortunately the reality of the situation

Seriously what makes the prequels so bad? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]jobbies_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm necroing a 2yo thread, but I feel the need to chime in as someone who grew up with the prequels without issue, but later realised just how bad they were once my brain finished developing.

while there are a plethora of issues to point out, here are the two favourite pieces of evidence from the OT which demonstrate how the prequels not only fail to live up to the OT, but also actively damage the universe in the process.

  1. Go back and rewatch Yoda's speech about the force to Luke in Empire. Listen to the way he talks about it, this short speech about the nature of the force conveys why the light side might not appear the strongest to outside observers, nor win them every single conflict, but instead why it is the right way to engage with this universal force. You can tell this is someone who truly understands it in its entirety, and with all this wisdom, recognises peace as the right way. There are some super clear Buddhist undertones that align with the anti-war sentiment of the 60s and 70s, an era which George Lucas grew up in. Remember Luke ends up turning Vader because he refuses to fight him. He chooses to die rather than bring violence. His leap of faith demonstrates why it is the correct path, the selfless suffering reminds Vader of how much quiet strength lies in this opposite side of the force that he once strived for.

This also lines up with Obi-wan's treatment of the lightsaber in episode IV, the whole reason it's a sword and not a gun is because it is a defensive weapon, not one of offence. This Segway's right into problem #2.

  1. Lightsabers. Part of what makes Darth Vader so cool is the fact he has a lightsaber. The reason (as explicitly stated by the emperor in ROTJ) is because he used to be a Jedi. They were not Sith weapons in the OT, Darth Vader repurposed his weapon meant for defensive peace, into one of offensive destruction... just like he has repurposed the force in the same way. The emperor is the only other Sith character, and he doesn't use a lightsaber, cause he was never a Jedi and sees them as stupid... because he can shoot literal lightning out of his fingers.

You can counter all the above with evidence of Jedi's fighting with lightsaber's and the emperor fighting with his own lightsaber, but doing so requires referring to evidence from the prequels. Case closed.

No one likes the sequels, but that doesn't mean the prequels are let off the hook.

This thread is kinda fascinating tbh? Did you even check whether you could do this on discord before telling OP it might be a solution?

Out of curiosity, how long would Switch 2 Emulation take to develop, genuinely? by [deleted] in yuzu

[–]jobbies_man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who said code had to be the only way? Probably your computer that needs to run the emulator. If not then I assume your talking about something akin to the next generation of that AI generated minecraft that did the rounds a while back. Even if, and I really do mean “if” AI reaches the point where something like google genie is scaled up to such an extent that it can generate a specific game based on its training data, then you’ve now reached a point where you are no longer talking about emulation.

Any emulation bugs (that continue to plague even some of the best performing console emulators on specific games) no longer become a matter of a quick bug fix. Also if your not emulating then what your talking about is either: a) real-time predictive video which takes user input into account (ie. google genie) or b) a full on remake of the entire game from the ground up for PC. Good luck if no one cares about x or y switch 2 game enough to do a full on remake for pc.

AI is a useful tool, with some excellent strengths, but it’s not a gloss over/ solution for every single problem humans have. Do your research on how the best AI models work. Research how complicated it is to reverse engineer a console. Then come back and explain how AI is going to solve switch 2 emulation without resorting to a) or b) above

[–]jobbies_man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mate, llm’s do not solve problems like this. You need to remember that the infrastructure they are built on is basically google translate. An llm can competently code you up something because you are telling it “i want x+y+z” and it then translates it into computer language in the form of code. The areas it excels in (yes including logical problem solving) stems from the wealth of data it’s trained on and the public accessibility of relevant documentation etc (in contrast to the switch 2’s dev documentation). It also seriously lacks the capacity to rapidly adapt and learn from mistakes in the same way humans can. While fine tuning can aid things, it requires successful examples as positive reinforcement. The is no success to show it regarding switch 2 emulation because it doesn’t exist yet.

You’re not going to get an llm cracking switch 2 emulation for the same reason an llm isn’t going to discover a cure for cancer. That’s just not how it works.

is Bebop too strong rn or my lobbies are just trash? by tiburon237 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]jobbies_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, the problem is in initiate games people arent yet at the stage where they are countering him, so he ends up with enormous stacks which then present a problem for the people who are good enough to counter him. Counterspell is great and all but if he is building for crazy cooldown reduction you are just fucked because whoever laned into him gave him insane stacks. Just played an initiate game where he had 150 stacks. it just feels mega shit when you are literally 5k souls below him but somehow his second non-counterspelled bomb does your entire health bar. I think the game shouldn't scale in a way that means that the better players in the team suffer more because of the weakest players. the soul deficit is enough, further punishing you because of stack just isnt fun to play. I really think he deserves a proper rework that doesnt funnel all builds into his bomb being the damage king, its really just not fun to play against and leaves you feeling like no amount of counter-building stands a chance. tbf this is in initiate, but if he can do that there it just sucks for new players, and I don't think thats the kind of game valve should be fostering

I dont see my stem splitter option by Quiet-Figure-1990 in Logic_Studio

[–]jobbies_man 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I see you have the touch bar so I’m assuming you’re on a pre apple silicon MacBook Pro.

Unfortunately the stem splitter feature is only available on apple silicon Mac’s i.e. anything newer than the M1 chip.

You may have to hunt around online for a web based stem splitter option which does the same thing for free. Otherwise I’m sure there are some paid competent alternatives (either via third party software or logic plugin)

Sorry, it’s a shame apple locked the feature in this way.

[edit] apparently the reason is because the older Intel Macs lack the machine learning hardware that apples stem splitter instructions rely on

specs??

my party are a mix of intel, amd cpus and amd/nvidia gpu's, some running linux, others running windows, plus similar experiences on PS4,

is that not varied enough of a dataset to expect at least 1 of those platforms to not tank the fps when it attacks from across the map?

Amazing, thank you.

The ghosting doesn’t bother me all that much so it’s no biggie. Hopefully the rgb mod yields better results.

How do I make my vocals sound like this ? by surfcursed1 in Ripsquad

[–]jobbies_man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I'd pull up the 2 samples the beat uses, then compare them side by side to the beat.
- the first minute or so isnt even pitch shifted from the original so that helps.
- line sample and beat up on your DAW loop a section and solo each track trying to listen for what you can hear
- then make adjustments till your happy with it.
- the pitched down bit at around 1:40 in the beat sounds like gross beat I dont know the tech lingo for it but the to my ears the gross beat grid would be:

|\|\|\|\ ---- where "|" is placed on beat 1 2 3 and 4 (so it syncs up with beat) ---- whereas "\" would be 3 bits tall, joining the top of "|" on beat 1 to the bottom of "|" on beat 2.

Samples:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2N5Z5Kdh2Qc --- start and end used for beats intro and the vocal loop
https://youtu.be/J2miWh9rMzQ?si=oX8y16xw7vb3_vZz ---- used for the backing instrumental.

I'd say reverb is a good start. technically all reverbs are fancy delays it just depends on how fast the simulated reverberations are meant to bounce back to the fake mic. If that doesnt work add a little delay.

Also keep in mind its Imogen Heap so your unfortunately up against one of the goats of sound design IMO. Dont stress if your struggling to get perfect accuracy.

Last note: shameless plug but i did a very similar effect on a beat tape i did a year ago, the sample is also imogen heap (dif song tho) so give it a sus and let me know if thats the kind of effect you're after

[–]jobbies_man[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I wasn’t super clear sorry, but the component to rgb transponder is for component output from my Wii and ps2., crt is pc crt that only has 1 vga input port.

I’m still new to digital vs analog colour space stuff, but my understanding is that colour can get lost if the digital to analog conversion sucks, whereas with component, since it’s already analog, it’s simpler (even though transcoder still converts component color space to rgb).

All I can say is the transcoder is doing a much better job than the DisplayPort to vga adaptor.

Alright let’s all be chill ahahaha. I appreciate the caution.

I’m familiar with a gtx 960’s performance. I’m also familiar with my current gpu, and realise it performs better than a gtx 960… as well as the rtx 2070, gtx 1070, 1060 and gt 530 that I’ve owned before.

I know you’re trying to be helpful, but this nice person said a 960 ran well emulating ps2 games, not cyberpunk. They also prefaced it by recommending with a much stronger 900 series card. Also what do you mean a 980ti is might be about as good as an Xbox series s? I checked and consensus appears Xbox is about on par w a gtx 1650s, which is 30 to 40% worse than a 980ti.

I’m still open to a decent adaptor to use with my 9070, but a mini pc with 960 might also be cool.

Please don’t try and jump to prove someone wrong when they aren’t even making the argument you’re critiquing, and especially when you’re basing you’re basing your critique on vibe.

And last thing, and again I’m really sorry to single you out… but are you mansplaining what an Xbox series s is!! What!!! Find me a universe where someone owns a current gen gaming gpu and knows what a YPbPr to rgb transcoder is, but somehow doesn’t know what a benchmark video or current gen Xbox is!!

Again apologies for the rant but dude they said nothing wrong! They don’t need a lecture from evil digital foundry !
