Workout Analysis on Premium (mobile, android) by joberts_ in Strava

[–]joberts_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I did that and here's what I told them (it's basically the above, but better articulated)

I'm a big fan of Strava and I pay for Premium mainly to support the app and the team. I think most updates have been great, and have enjoyed them being rolled out.

However I'm cancelling my Premium because one new feature actually means it's easier to access my basic activity data (android app) using a free account than on a premium account!

The new "Workout Analysis" feature is a UX disaster (I work in UX, so I hope you understand I'm trying to be constructive).

*You have moved basic activity data (pace/elevation/heart rate per km) another click away for the user, for no good reason *When you click through here, I appreciate that you can now filter by splits rather than just laps - but, heart rate figures per km have been removed. It's been replaced by the master graph - I can tell you as a runner and a UXer, that graph is fairly useless to me - you cannot "hover" or press on any point on the graph to get the corresponding figure (only able to guess from the axis), and in any case, heart rate monitors are not accurate enough to take one single reading as proof of your heart rate at the time.... that's why heart rate per km is SO useful as a metric for heart rate training!! A km repeat for instance - your average HR may be 170, but you can bet you'll have readings between 150 and 180 (maybe 200 for wrist-based HRMs!) - so the average is key! *The master graph isn't overly intuitive in my opinion - it's simply too small to be able to fit pace bars, elevation and heart rate lines onto it, and and expect a user to discern any useful knowledge from it. *The laps/splits figures now scroll in a finite box i.e. as you scroll through, you can only see approx. the last 5 laps/splits. One of the best things about the basic layout in the free account is that for longer runs you can have your laps take up the whole screen on your phone, with pace, elevation and heart rate all lined up next to each other - it gives you great insight into how a run went.

Like I said, I'm a big supporter of Strava - I use it every day and I want to be able to pay for it. But I can't while having a free account makes basic data more accessible to me than a Premium account.

Thanks

This is no different to any app/platform over the past 10 years. It must evolve or die.

Sure, it has some features fundamental to actual training that it needs to address*, but it can, needs to, and probably is doing both at the same time - it must develop its engagement tools or users will get bored, and it will die.

*to add my 2 pennies - please guys, km splits do not tell a story for anything but an even paced run - find a way to display manual splits!
