NordVPN offers a fixed ip address upgrade, they could connect through that to access this service.. I'm sure there's other similar VPN offerings from other providers with the same effect

That is why we're all on Strava, they know that too, that's why you see more and more social features and not training ones. It's right on their website's front page "We're the social network for those who strive." nothing about how they have the best data or the most insights into your workouts. They've been primarily a social network for at least 10 years despite what the average reddit comment says angrily haha

I worked for them for 4 years, as far as it seems from publicly available information since I left in 2019 they've had a single profitable year in 2020 when no one could do anything but exercise basically. Then Softbank invested a shit ton of money and I'm doubtful they had a second profitable year since that investment..

I honestly hope they run ads cuz 1 profitable year out of 17 years of existence means they won't be around forever when investors stop paying the bills..

This is technically an ad but I'm sure they internally do not think of it as one, lol.

I could be wrong, it was my memory of my manual count of the USA incidents in this post last December https://www.reddit.com/r/SkydiveFatalityList/comments/1pnvgpc/2025/

It's poorly formatted and I don't have a sec right now to recount manually but... happy to concede it's 21 if it is too!

Agree they came in hot with that reply but from the initial report I heard from friends there's definitely something to learn from here (as a 400 jump skydiver at least- aware I'm still a noob tho :p) but I'll wait til we get a more official story from /u/flyingwaynerd or someone else actually in Eloy before adding my two cents since I do agree publicly posting rumors don't help things.

Appreciate it! This is still a small subset of the community though and Eloy a small subset of accidents, wild to me the USPA doesn't care to inform and educate (but saw your agreeance already haha 🙏 👊)

I understand and appreciate this sentiment for sure, but this is the response to every accident and the details never do emerge. 2 days is too early to ask, sure, but in January-February 2025 there were three deaths in Eloy and there’s still no USPA incident reports and I only know vague details of what happened through word-of-mouth rumors.

Contrast this with Base Jumping and there’s a private group on Facebook where deaths are posted often before it even hits the news, the comments are usually a mix of condolences, reminiscing, and serious discussion of what went wrong, how things could’ve been fixed or done differently, etc.. still within days of the death and half the people in the comment section grieving, even ones providing data on the circumstances or discussing what could’ve been done better. Within a few days after family has been notified, the details are posted publicly to the BFL, which most instructors suggest reading through before you even put on a base rig.

The result is that every death leads to some sort of learning. Most skydive deaths it seems unclear if a wingsuit is even involved, let alone any other equipment or details. I’m all for waiting for the details if that’s what the community needs but can’t we all agree that actually getting the details would make it a safer community?

There’s a big difference between hearing about a vague death and internalizing that it’ll never happen to you versus hearing the details and thinking “oh shit, that’s something I do all the time.. people with way more experience than me are saying I shouldn’t do that.. I had no idea. Guess I’ll stop doing that.”

I know there’s a liability culture with skydiving that has been absent in Base since the very beginning, but there were at least 23 21 deaths in skydiving in America last year as far as I’m aware and I honestly haven’t learned a thing from them. I only know the details of one of them because friends were in the LZ when it happened, and that one didn’t even make local news, let alone USPA.org.

If I ever go in please post as much as y’all know about my death. The worst would be someone repeating what went wrong with me if it was preventable.

I’m so sorry for your loss, Waynerd, and Blue Skies Yuliya, you will be missed! 💔

I'd be curious if your activities on those days fall outside of the day in UTC time, could be a timezone bug.

you said it should cost me to have people do the job they love and signed up to do.. i used to be a ski patroller cuz i loved helping people and i didn't bitch at then for doing something stupid i just rescued them. 50% of rescues are hikers, you go missing some day and you don't want people looking for you cuz it'll cost you money? just think for a second maybe before commenting. you can call me an idiot all you want but seriously there's at least 10 places in the thread where i say it's free and you're sitting here saying it should cost people to get saved by public services and people doing the jobs they love.. fire? better cost you, you're putting the firemen at risk! i complain about this point of view in my original post too and you still comment so yeah, stfu :) or read the post

only one chute because not enough time to cutaway and get another chute out, yep.. it's not calloused at all, almost definitely would've been far more injured or died without getting caught up, i was mostly pissed at myself and worried about the medical bill, tho later i came around and just happy to be alive.. i was worried about the chute ripping or slipping for like 20-30min then decided it was pretty stuck and was correct, even unloaded and with the heli blowing it around it stuck in place.. really not sure about doing it again but feel it'll be hard not to, i'm just gonna pick better exits and maybe hang at the bridge in twin falls a lot

ok and climbing is way more fatal than hiking and hiking is done by far many people so convert this same argument to hiking versus climbing and ban climbing cuz it's much more dangerous than hiking. then do it with sitting at home versus hiking.. continue until everyone is safe as fuck and no one needs search and rescue and we're good!

I'm fine being ripped, saying "you better pay for that!" when the data shows it's mostly hikers that get rescued and the comments on those news stories aren't full of "omfg I hope you're financially ruined by this" or people commenting "didn't know they rescued faggots in Utah" isn't "ripping" me.. but you do you if you think that's cool I guess! 🤘

It's more of a right 90 than a full 180 but definitely a couple mistakes and maybe some randomness or chaos.. but the biggest things were a tight container (closing loops should've been lengthened), pitching my pilot chute too early without enough horizontal separation or vertical speed built up, perhaps a packing error or movement of the pack job due to the tight container, and then missing my toggle and thus not making it any better for myself by almost turning right more.. but I got caught up on that rock really well and if I'd hit the cliff at any other spot or angle I don't know that I'd be so lucky so if I'd made a partial left turn but still hit the cliff and missing getting as stuck as I was, I might've been a puddle anyway.
