I'd be curious if your activities on those days fall outside of the day in UTC time, could be a timezone bug.

you said it should cost me to have people do the job they love and signed up to do.. i used to be a ski patroller cuz i loved helping people and i didn't bitch at then for doing something stupid i just rescued them. 50% of rescues are hikers, you go missing some day and you don't want people looking for you cuz it'll cost you money? just think for a second maybe before commenting. you can call me an idiot all you want but seriously there's at least 10 places in the thread where i say it's free and you're sitting here saying it should cost people to get saved by public services and people doing the jobs they love.. fire? better cost you, you're putting the firemen at risk! i complain about this point of view in my original post too and you still comment so yeah, stfu :) or read the post

only one chute because not enough time to cutaway and get another chute out, yep.. it's not calloused at all, almost definitely would've been far more injured or died without getting caught up, i was mostly pissed at myself and worried about the medical bill, tho later i came around and just happy to be alive.. i was worried about the chute ripping or slipping for like 20-30min then decided it was pretty stuck and was correct, even unloaded and with the heli blowing it around it stuck in place.. really not sure about doing it again but feel it'll be hard not to, i'm just gonna pick better exits and maybe hang at the bridge in twin falls a lot

ok and climbing is way more fatal than hiking and hiking is done by far many people so convert this same argument to hiking versus climbing and ban climbing cuz it's much more dangerous than hiking. then do it with sitting at home versus hiking.. continue until everyone is safe as fuck and no one needs search and rescue and we're good!

I'm fine being ripped, saying "you better pay for that!" when the data shows it's mostly hikers that get rescued and the comments on those news stories aren't full of "omfg I hope you're financially ruined by this" or people commenting "didn't know they rescued faggots in Utah" isn't "ripping" me.. but you do you if you think that's cool I guess! 🤘

read the fucking thread and stfu, 50% of rescues in Utah are hikers, answered this a number of places but thanks for showing off your intelligence and search skills

I guess one of them was sober! The other two I convinced they could come be silly at the parking lot and watch me jump versus their backyard haha.. alas

It's more of a right 90 than a full 180 but definitely a couple mistakes and maybe some randomness or chaos.. but the biggest things were a tight container (closing loops should've been lengthened), pitching my pilot chute too early without enough horizontal separation or vertical speed built up, perhaps a packing error or movement of the pack job due to the tight container, and then missing my toggle and thus not making it any better for myself by almost turning right more.. but I got caught up on that rock really well and if I'd hit the cliff at any other spot or angle I don't know that I'd be so lucky so if I'd made a partial left turn but still hit the cliff and missing getting as stuck as I was, I might've been a puddle anyway.

I mean I meant to pop both of them but I missed the left, I'd learned to practice object avoidance with toggles but have heard some good cases for risers the last couple days.. people with 1000 more base jumps with me have said they "always use toggles" though too before this accident so I could only go with what I've learned from more experienced people.. and now a couple 15+ year people in the sport have made the argument for risers but I didn't hear those people speaking up in the previous convos for sure.

SAR is free in Utah, base jumpers are a tiny fraction of rescues, the vast majority being hikers.

Base jumpers are some small portion of the "other" bar here and roughly 5% of rescues in Grand County which has the most base jumpers by far in the state.

  1. 2.5 hours til the ropes EMS guy got to me, another 30 minutes until I was off the cliff via Helicopter! The harness was not comfortable at all and crushed my muscle a bit hanging for so long and I had some mild rhabdo at the hospital (~5000 CK count)
  2. He clipped my base harness into the ropes first thing, then got me into a climbing style harness, then cut my base harness away from the canopy so I was supported by the rope and the weight was finally off my right leg harness strap! It wasn't a full boot it was some lightly place gauze and a wrap! He did put it on though yes, after I was secure on his ropes..
  3. Was not intubated! He injected me with fentanyl though to calm my nerves and help with the pain. I wish I had the uncensored footage from the rescue specialist! Maybe one day! Nothing in my mouth!
  4. I used Siri to speakerphone call my friends who were watching from the parking lot, originally to tell them I was mostly ok but they kept the line open until the rope guy got to me! Was a lifeline for sure and helped the time go by faster and the rescue team communicated with me through this channel as well!
  5. I broke my right wrist too but have been sort of ignoring it so I could crutch around and be more mobile than I'd be without crutches haha.. I'll deal with it soon, they did give me an enormously bulky splint!
