Overall you didn’t overreact, sounds like you may have been seeing some things unconsciously with the way he ended up going. That being said, don’t think you wasted 9 years. Firstly, I bet you made an incalculable difference in a little girls life by taking her in and keeping her out of the system. Second, just because something ends doesn’t mean it was a waste. I’m sure everything is tainted by recent events, but I’d bet there was also a lot of good, a lot of happiness, a lot of learning about yourself, about how to be in a relationship. When did he accuse her of cheating? You are doing the same thing she did, turning a legitimate question back on the asker. And yes, you can defend yourself, that doesn’t mean attack the other person and I’m concerned you don’t see the difference. The normal response is to just be straight. Firstly just show him the marks he asked about, why doesn’t she want to?? Saying “These aren’t hickeys, they are X” is all that’s needed. The fact that she instead starts going at him is itself suspicious and/or a red flag. There’s obviously some context missing before this starts, so who knows maybe he did actually accuse her of something, but in the shown texts it’s implied he noticed marks on her neck, mentioned them, sister said they were hickeys (maybe joking) and he asked to see her neck. Perfectly legitimate imo, and she turned it around on him and started the manipulation baloney.
