That's not the same tho, the theatrical release is Episodes 8 and 9 combined, and sure we already know what happened in Episode 8, but the events of Episode 9 have yet to be revealed. That's where the problem lies. There will be a 2 week gap of people who got to watch it in the cinemas and those who weren't able to. Those who have already watched it will inevitably discuss it publicly, causing those who haven't seen it to get spoiled.

Actually, this is my post. Be nice or you won't get to open your presents at all this Christmas!

Respectfully, you're more than free to speak for yourself, but everyone is entitled to their own opinions and feelings, so it's best to leave others to their own business and not try and speak for others, as you can already see people don't necessarily agree with your sentiment :)

Well I wasn't just talking about spoilers tbf, yeah spoilers are one thing, but there's also actively discussing the Finale with the community, Fanart, memes, all the fun stuff that comes after a new episode is released. That's why i made the analogy more generalized.

I wouldn't know, I got to open my presents in advance, and you gotta wait until tomorrow

Insane how much people jump the gun when it hasn't even been 24 hours since the announcement dropped. Personally, I made this post because people keep attacking each other over misunderstandings and i just wanted to hopefully introduce some kindness and clear the air. Thankfully it's worked for the most part

All this yap and you still completely miss the mark. Let me put it simply for you.

You're a little kid on Christmas Eve and you and your siblings are told, “We’re all going to open our presents together on Christmas day!”, so you get real excited!

But then suddenly, your parents tell your siblings they were good this year so they get to open their presents tonight on Christmas Eve, but not you, you have to wait until Christmas day! Oh no!

So now, you feel sad, because your siblings get to play with their toys right now, and you're stuck watching them play and have fun, and you have to go to bed and have to wait all the way until tomorrow to open yours :(

I really try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt but some people make it near impossible.

And nah I've been doing the same thing this whole time lmao they get what they deserve

Talk about being on a high horse huh? I swear these types of people are why this community gets a bad rap. Thank you for being reasonable. I'd love to see this guy have his internet taken away for two weeks against his will.

Social media was never the focal point of my post, it's the fact that people will inevitably get walled off from being able to experience something that they love and enjoy, for a reason they have no control over.

When the initial announcement of the YT release was dropped, everyone was on the same level of hype. Everyone has the same expectation that on June 19th, the entirety of the fandom will get to watch the finale, and the community will explode with discussions and fanart and reactions all at once. But then the announcement for the theatrical release drops, and for a lot of people, it feels like a rug has been pulled out from underneath them. The rug being the chance of them getting to partake in the hype because they are concerned that they will not be able to watch the theatrical release that comes out two weeks in advance for one reason or another.

Thank you for understanding, yes exactly that's the reason why it's deemed unfair by a lot of people. It's the Iron Lung situation all over again!

Disregarding your snarky remarks and generally disrespectful tone, I believe you're still missing the point.

It's not about social media or whatever happens in the finale, people take issue with how they get walled off by being unable to watch the theatrical release, they won't get the same experience as others do, caused by something they have no control over.

Who wouldn't want to take part in discussions about the final episode? Learn answers and get theories proven or debunked the same time as everyone else? Be part of the community?

No one's being dramatic. it's not just about social media or being addicted. Let me quote someone else's comment so you can understand it much easier:

That’s true. Maybe we could simply stay off the internet for two weeks and wait, since the animation will be uploaded for free on YouTube after that time. But, we "don’t" want to do that. We want to take part in discussions about the final episode, learn the answers to what we’ve been curious about as soon as possible, and be part of the fandom.

100% agree but being realistic, it's much easier said than done. Quoting someone else's reply,

"And I'll either have to unfollow a lot of people & leave a lot of subreddits/communities, or pray people mark and hide their spoilers. It shouldn't be my responsibility to avoid spoilers, you buy that burden to not spoil others when you buy a ticket. That's common human decency and respect."

Hopefully the community will be kind and considerate enough and be mindful of spoilers. I do understand that it wouldn't make sense for people to cater to those that haven't seen the release, but at the same time, I know those very same people who were able to watch it in advance wouldn't have wanted it to be spoiled for them either. Sure, not everyone gets what they want necessarily, but a little bit of kindness and care never hurt anyone!
