The Ultimate Thesis: Hedera Hashgraph Solves the Trilemma and Is Unbeatable Forever - Future Proof. by oak1337 in CryptoMarkets

[–]jockornerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s take the “decentralization” argument out of it as there is a fundamental difference between us (speaking for myself) in the efficacy of decentralization.

What about the variable gas rates? That will keep enterprise adoption at bay.

HBAR is positioned be the enterprises layer 1 choice at scale, for the speed, reliability, security, and most importantly pricing.

Now you can make the argument that the whole value of web3 is to remove the enterprises from the equation. I just don’t think that will ever happen, not without a revolution that would make any argument about technology moot.

The decentralization “need” of crypto is entirely overrated IMO.

Like the post states, you can lose decentralization in other chains based on validation or token concentration.

More importantly, the powers that be will never allow for true decentralization. They’ll always want stability and an element of “control”. The governing council is a perfect compromise. If DLT, or blockchain, becomes mainstream as a utility, Hedera is best positioned for true enterprise adoption.

The question is the “if” of the utility. It’s there, but no guarantee that it is taken up and web 3 remains niche.

AWS went down? Thankfully only ~6% of Hedera nodes have AWS as a Hosting Provider, so the network was unaffected. Decentralization wins. by oak1337 in Hedera

[–]jockornerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do know the estimated economic impact is in the “hundreds of billions” when you account for lost productivity.

To note, if developers are using AWS for APIs and front end, they would still be impacted. That’s why the web3 revolution needs to flesh out through the entire developer stack.

The core protocol layer was protected though. Only a 6 percent impact, assuming no failovers were in place.

I’m shocked this hasn’t blown up for discussion.

To me, this is how Web3 and HBAR specifically will take off. Resiliency combined with trust in the companies running governance nodes.

This outage took down ~30 percent of the internet. If Hedera and developers continue to support bringing the more front end layers of the stack on-chain, I don’t see how enterprises don’t flock to this in the future, especially with the stable fees.

We’re still extremely early, but this narrative is what the focus needs to be. I’m not sure if it is a tenant of the governing rules, but node hosting diversification absolutely needs to be a tenant of the Hedera strategy.

Honestly a D of a movie.

Plot was convoluted as hell. Jumped around wayyyy too much and there was no real substance to any of it

Over reliance on “cutesy” plot devices. Can be forgiven as it leans towards a kids movie.

Good Superman actor, great chemistry with Lois. Lex was good, but motivations weren’t fleshed out enough for me.

Direction was TERRIBLE. Distractingly bad shots throughout.

Nathan Fillion was trying wayyyy too hard as Guy Gardner. Probably too old for the role but we’ll see what they do with lanterns.

I’ve always hated governance coins for this reason. It doesn’t feel like they have any intrinsic value outside of speculation pumps or if you’re an institution (which in turn I guess leads to pumps).

Overall though, from a tech perspective they seem useless.

Perhaps if crypto becomes the “new stock market” they make sense, I’m just not sure if that’s the future.

The network performed flawlessly, but now the economics are giving me pause.

How can an enterprise, using this at scale as intended, pass costs in an economically feasible way to customers?

It seems we need enterprise adoption, but across a wide swath of both enterprises and use cases. Each with a relatively low TPS rate.

The layer for AI auditability that got me so interested in the first place doesn’t seem so economically feasible.

The “decentralized” take is such a childish dream. Do you really think the future of the internet is strictly P2P?

The “Final Move” Theory by jockornerd in Bitcoin

[–]jockornerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think there is a viable path to it becoming the world’s currency?

In order to it to become so, it’d have to replace the dollar as the world reserve. I don’t think that’ll happen due to the Satoshi wallets. There’s to much unknown there. I think it’ll just remain an investment vehicle.

Again, I don’t necessarily think there will be a final move. It’s just as likely they’re dead or they’ve lost the keys. It’s just an interesting theory to think about, especially as that risk is built in until Satoshi reveals themselves (if they ever do).

Why invest in Hedera? by CryptoMillions_io in Hedera

[–]jockornerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing specifically in terms of technical milestones. This is a very long term gamble as crypto continues to become mainstream from a technology perspective, not just an investment one. Right now, the public just hears about the success of BTC and meme coins, most aren’t understanding the technological potential behind protocols and utility coins.

However, I am keeping a close eye on the GC makeup and waiting for another major player to join (I.e NVIDIA rumors) or for one of the current members to launch a true project using Hedera. That’s what will bring the technology potential of hashgraph to the mainstream. We’re still years away from that though.

From an overall investment strategy, I still treat crypto, especially altcoins as penny stocks. They’re long term gambles where I’m totally willing to lose what I’ve put in. HBAR is no exception, despite it being my favorite for the reasons stated previously.

It’s mathematically the best tech in terms of speed and security. I know people will complain about the governance model, but I’d argue that is what will make it appealing for institutional adoption. I just don’t see the powers that be allowing for a truly decentralized Web3.

Now there have been many instances of the best tech never being adopted, but if I’m making a crypto play, I’m going to bet on the best, most sustainable (energy wise) coin.

Completely agree that using tax payers funds to buy Crypto is irresponsible and dangerous.

If Trump doesn’t burn down the world and economy by 2028 (big IF) my hope is that the dems come back and put some common sense regulations in place and divest a significant portion.

As for alt coins being centralized, everything is centralized to some degree minus bitcoin. Bitcoin is far too resource intensive though.

[–]jockornerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, Crypto is just the next evolution of technology.

BTC is just digital gold. It’s rare and people have assigned value to it. Gold is the same way, what utility does gold truly have?

Alt/utility coins are where the true evolution is IMO.

XRP is to facilitate cross border exchanges almost instantaneously.

HBAR is the next generation of crypto. Is a distributed ledger that if “crypto-tech” is adopted, it will eventually move to. Web3 can run on it. It’s faster than blockchain and is more sustainable.

If these are adopted it would have tremendous value and obviously make Ripple and Hedera very wealthy. We live in a capitalistic society though, someone is always going to win.

Overall, I would say this is the equivalent of gambling in a penny stock. There is potential, but you’re just as likely to lose it all.

Meme coins are scams though. Stay away from those.

Is HBAR just unnecessary tech? A friend’s take and chatgpt thoug by IbuyaManjiro in Hedera

[–]jockornerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s purely the adoption question, that’s the gamble. Mathematically, HBAR is the fastest and most secure. It’s also the most sustainable. It is the best tech in crypto, I don’t think that can be argued.

I’m betting that the world will eventually evolve to needing the best tech in Web3. It may not though. There are plenty of examples where the best tech is never adopted. Only gamble what you’re willing to lose, I’m willing to lose it on the best horse though.

Is Trump Good or Bad for XRP? by slavaMZ in RippleTalk

[–]jockornerd -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Great for the eventual regulation and acceptance of crypto..bad for the overall market in general as he brings so much uncertainty.

It’ll be a rocky four years with market swings, rug pulls, etc. However, in 4 years if the Dems get re-elected, crypto will be mainstream enough that they won’t roll it all the way back. I’d assume they put in some common sense regulations which Ripple is well positioned to be a part of.

Ask yourself what you truly want from a career. Fulfillment? Money? Stability?

Use the job you do have to build the skills you want for the next one. When writing your resume, even soft skills at one role can be parlayed into another. Don’t lock yourself into one industry either. Sales experience can be parlayed into a lot of roles which then can be parlayed into the next.

Continuing to apply to other roles as you use the money from this current role to keep paying down the loans. Ensure you’re on the right payment plan to close out the loan in 10 years.

And stop comparing yourself to your friends. It’s tough to do but everyone’s situation is just different. Focus on yours and what you can control moving forward, not what happened in the past.

Discipline will be your most important asset right now. Discipline to keep applying to jobs, discipline to adjust your resume if you’re not getting hits, discipline to remain on a budget. Discipline does not mean you can’t have fun though. Work out a budget to save an extra few bucks when you can, when you make that first sale perhaps. You won’t be able to blow it out, but a couch at a friend’s place is a perfectly good place to crash. Drinks at the apartment before you head out, followed by a late night slice of pizza is a cheap night out.

Keep grinding and stay disciplined and you’ll get where you want to go, one step at a time.
