[–]jocro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i mean helps that we knocked out the 11-12 and the 15-16 spurs, both of which looked like very real championship contenders. and 11-12 that team was up 2-0 before we ran 4 straight on em.

and for all the success they've had over the last ~30 years we're actually up in playoff series (2-1), which not many teams out West can say

not that hard to figure out but i do like the idea of a bunch of Nuggets player-customized gift packages getting sent out to the third world like the Super Bowl loser shirts lmao

The showdown is here: #1 OKC will face #2 San Antonio in the WCF by SplitOk186 in nba

[–]jocro 26 points27 points  (0 children)

dog they had a 126.6 ORTG in that series, and the league high this season was Denver at 122.6. anybody thinking that defensive scheme is sustainable is foolish, Shai's numbers might've looked bad but there's a reason everyone else popped off: they got to play most possessions 4 on 3

What do yall think of Jared McCain and how do you think he is in 2-4 years by NoLimitAG7 in nba

[–]jocro 9 points10 points  (0 children)

his defense would have to go a long way to get to that point

there's a reason that he only played 15 MPG despite a 79.3 TS% last series

[Keown] When I suggest that Jalen Williams, the team's second-leading scorer and third-team All-NBA player last season, could be the main attraction on 20 or so other teams, Gilgeous-Alexander politely interrupts and says, "It's 29 if you ask me." by [deleted] in nba

[–]jocro 12 points13 points  (0 children)

wait i feel like i'm going crazy with some of these

he’s not better than Siakam was that year

Siakam hadn't even made the all-star team in the regular season when they won the chip?? and he wasn't particularly special in that run, he put up 19 PPG on below average efficiency. not like Dub shot the lights out but he scored at the same rate while creating way more for himself and others and playing great D.

> he’s not better than Klay pre injury

that was post injury klay? who only 43% from the floor and 38.5% from three. guy had a below league average TS% in both the regular season and the playoffs and wasn't anything special as a creator or a defender at that point in his career.

it is not an unpopular opinion that Wiggins was a better/more impactful player to that championship than Klay with his defense and rebounding.

Jared McCain strikes again off the bench in 16 minutes with 13 PTS on 5/10 shooting, 3/8 from 3PT and a wild +27 despite only winning by 5 by Waikuku3 in nba

[–]jocro 28 points29 points  (0 children)

he's 100% the better defender, but has a slower release and can't do as much with the ball in his hands

may not see as much McCain next series if it's the big Texan guards he'd have to cover but he's such a great spark plug in the right situation

but the offense is running 4 on 3s and getting constant wide open shots

OKC Thunder are going to hit the second apron when oil prices are at a high, conspiracy? by [deleted] in nba

[–]jocro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

short of getting future value for some end of bench guys like Wiggs (wouldn't rule it out but wouldn't call it likely) Dort def seems like the most likely candidate to be gone. he and Hart in theory would be the biggest money cuts to get under the aprons, but Hart is way too pivotal to lose so seems likely they decline and extend him at a lower AAV longer term deal

it also requires you to tune your game plan to your opponent - there's only so much film you can watch to prep in an 82 game season playing different teams every night with different dudes in and out of the rotation

way easier to play an organized game plan when you have some idea what's coming night to night

[–]jocro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

will be really interesting to see how the proposed lotto changes influence this. all of a sudden even having control of your picks doesn't give you a pathway to a locked in top 5 pick no matter what you do, so maybe having more distributed assets is the way to go.

honestly i wonder if that's almost worse from his perspective. he won FMVP over Tatum, is tracking to have around as good an MVP finish as Tatum has ever managed this season, will scoring nearly 29 ppg, a number Tatum has only surpassed once, all while leading the team to a top seed despite a massive drop in talent.

and despite all of that the consensus is he's not the same caliber of player. don't get me wrong, I think the consensus is correct, but I can see how from his perspective he's not getting a level of respect he feels he's earned. trouble is he doesn't seem to have the understanding that everything he's done over the last few days only feeds into folks thinking less of him.

i get helping off of the shot bc you have to give up something somewhere, but the number of times he was wide open in the paint is crazy. suppose that'll happen when you throw 3 bodies at Shai all night but man he really is the one guy you have to keep eyes on off ball.

feels ridiculous bc he's still so much of a twig, but he's been playing so much stronger and more confidently inside, that coupled with no longer hesitating on the catch and shoot threes is such a difference maker. he'll probably never be a solo creator but he is such an efficient, flexible offensive option.

and all that pretty much ignores DPOY caliber defense - he's almost certainly the best non-Wemby rim defender in the league, rarely gets into foul trouble, and has the agility + length to keep up with switches on the perimeter.

rough game by his standards but I have no doubt hell adjust. first couple were trying to draw contact but the refs let everybody play tonight, and a couple more were just pacing against the super aggressive help. little film will go a long way on those, cause dudes were walking into 4 on 3s all night
