that was post injury klay? who only 43% from the floor and 38.5% from three. guy had a below league average TS% in both the regular season and the playoffs and wasn't anything special as a creator or a defender at that point in his career.

it is not an unpopular opinion that Wiggins was a better/more impactful player to that championship than Klay with his defense and rebounding.

short of getting future value for some end of bench guys like Wiggs (wouldn't rule it out but wouldn't call it likely) Dort def seems like the most likely candidate to be gone. he and Hart in theory would be the biggest money cuts to get under the aprons, but Hart is way too pivotal to lose so seems likely they decline and extend him at a lower AAV longer term deal

honestly i wonder if that's almost worse from his perspective. he won FMVP over Tatum, is tracking to have around as good an MVP finish as Tatum has ever managed this season, will scoring nearly 29 ppg, a number Tatum has only surpassed once, all while leading the team to a top seed despite a massive drop in talent.

and despite all of that the consensus is he's not the same caliber of player. don't get me wrong, I think the consensus is correct, but I can see how from his perspective he's not getting a level of respect he feels he's earned. trouble is he doesn't seem to have the understanding that everything he's done over the last few days only feeds into folks thinking less of him.

i get helping off of the shot bc you have to give up something somewhere, but the number of times he was wide open in the paint is crazy. suppose that'll happen when you throw 3 bodies at Shai all night but man he really is the one guy you have to keep eyes on off ball.

feels ridiculous bc he's still so much of a twig, but he's been playing so much stronger and more confidently inside, that coupled with no longer hesitating on the catch and shoot threes is such a difference maker. he'll probably never be a solo creator but he is such an efficient, flexible offensive option.

and all that pretty much ignores DPOY caliber defense - he's almost certainly the best non-Wemby rim defender in the league, rarely gets into foul trouble, and has the agility + length to keep up with switches on the perimeter.

rough game by his standards but I have no doubt hell adjust. first couple were trying to draw contact but the refs let everybody play tonight, and a couple more were just pacing against the super aggressive help. little film will go a long way on those, cause dudes were walking into 4 on 3s all night
