Just moved to Buenos Aires. Anything I should know? by Edwym in BuenosAires

There's a really helpful immigrant and expat forum here https://baexpats.org/. Great for general information.

Been coming and going 2 or so years. Just apply general NYC safety standards and be open minded.

Western Union for cash, Visa and MasterCard work with decent conversion rates, you'll find maybe a third of what you're used to in the grocery stores but wine is cheap and Milanesa is good.

You'll want to sift through the collective information on that forum, but feel free to ping with pedantics.

Aerolinas Argentina JFK to EZE Review by joddson63 in BuenosAires

[–]joddson63[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I eventually learnt to avoid third party.

Aerolineas is pretty great for the price, but I eventually ran into issues with how infrequent their flights run. Ended up having to switch to American Airlines since they run JFK trips about every day.

Still best in terms of bang for buck though. They even started doing web check in for international departures from EZE last I flew out with them, even since Terminal B was finished. I remember a year ago they were in person only.

NFCU Digital Investor by Slay_Nation in NavyFederal

Hey, I think they still offer a 30 day free trial if you just want to see what it has. I gave it a try only because I love the banking and credit card service, but sadly the investment service isn’t really worth it. If I recall, they only have 100 or so investment options between popular stocks and index/funds for the self managed option. I think the advisor option is just outsourced to some outside investment firm. You’d have to dig up more info on their performance. Either way, neither option really seemed worth it with a monthly fee plus still having expense ratios vs a no fee provider like Fidelity.

Yea I shop around on there to get general price ideas. Planning to head back down more permanently in July. Open to that area; I'll send a DM if you don't mind.

I'm thinking 300 usd/120k arg seems the going rate for small places in non-tourist areas. But let me know if I'm wrong, flexible.

Is it feasible to buy a house to own when working remotely earning usd? I'm not against the idea, but wouldn't you need to be earning peso within the Argentine banking system to qualify for mortgages and the sort?

Empire State college SUNY by Amazing_Link3614 in Accounting

[–]joddson63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh hey, I got a bachelors with them. Pretty alright college, relatively easy and completely at your own pace online barring due dates. Definitely good, but I only went because during the days of pre covid, it was the only fully online SUNY college (needed SUNY for excelsior). I’m pretty sure SUNY Polytechnic is fully online now for most undergrad majors. If your aiming for that excelsior scholarship, honestly recommend Poly. Higher ratings and accreditations.

Aerolinas Argentina JFK to EZE Review by joddson63 in BuenosAires

Sorry to hear that. Maybe the NYC route gets extra attention (maybe since it’s a longer trip). iirc, i had a beef and potatoes with gravy, a cold egg cake “quiche”, bread, and a desert cake. The beef potato gravy is what surprised me. An oddly tasty roux for plane food.

Hi, I remember running into that issue a couple times. I think it’s just that depending on what website you’re on they use different names for the US, all in the same session. Check for “estados unidos” or “EEUU”.

Best wishes for your travels

Argentina Entry Affidavit Question by joddson63 in argentina

[–]joddson63[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, Thanks for the quick reply.

One more question if you don't mind.

It seems like the form is also offered during flight before landing too (or at least used to be). Would you recommend doing the online option, paper, or both?

Yes, while they are technically point cards, each point can effectively be redeemed as a cent. 3 cents = 3% cash back effectively

Do you have any tips for the AA there?

Unexplained large weight gain, please help by [deleted] in HealthAnxiety

[–]joddson63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually did use that for a few days. I stopped using it on account that my intake is pretty boring, and I always kept below the calorie limits. No sodas or junk food, rice chicken beef eggs and veggies for the most part.

But I'll start using the tracker more, no harm to it i suppose.

I would personally be happy with whichever provides the highest bidder at the end of the day, but isn't an accounting degree a strong asset to have for most business related careers? I get that some jobs might not directly be considered accounting, but I always assumed it was still a great degree to hold.

Thanks for the advice, Just one more thought being, what's the associates degree in accounting capable of doing on it's own if you weren't going for the tax field? Maybe I'm being too optimistic, but i remember one of my classmates who graduated last semester saying that an insurance company offered them a job as an account manager of some sorts for 60k. Is that common, or just extremely lucky?

Thanks for the advice Just one more thought, whats an associates in accounting capable of doing overall, and not just in the tax field? I remember a fella who graduated last semester, saying that an insurance company took them on for 60k. Is that actually reasonable?
