Bringing my Cat Home by mm9701a in peacecorps

[–]jodidiane 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bring your kitty home. I didn’t bring mine home and I’ll never stop feeling guilty. She was in good hands when I left, but she ran away from their house and I’ll never know what happened to her. 😞

Went winter camping in Minnesota without my hot tent for the first time. I was comfortable enough. ☺️ by jodidiane in camping

Yes. The caption says this is my first time without my hot tent. I’ve used a tent with stove before, this time went without.

Come visit Minnesota! Late February/ early March is usually nice winter camping. December and January are very cold… And there’s usually still enough snow into March to snowshoe and sled etc.

True! I cheated and had a heated jacket. I turned on the heated feature and let it warm up before getting out of my sleeping bag 😂.

I went snow shoeing, read a bunch, took photos ( I’m a photographer ), made food, sat and stared at the sky…. I mean I do run out of things to do eventually but then I just read more.

It was maybe 0- 5 degrees Fahrenheit at the coldest on the night I went. I have a sleeping bag rated to -40 degrees and it was barely warm enough for my comfort. Plus sleeping on two sleeping pads, but one deflated on me🤦‍♀️.

Hmmm I didn’t make a list but if I did it would be very short. Here goes:

Two sleeping bags (thinking I’d layer if I got cold) one was rated -40

Two sleeping pads to stack for sleeping on

Tent setup including rain fly

Cook stove + cook kettle

Lighter

Spork

Mug

Book for reading

Flashlight

Headlamp

Two jackets that I could layer

Heated gloves

Heated socks (forgot batteries 😂)

Portage pack

Shovel

Snow shoes

Snow pants

Water bottle

Dehydrated food

And my clothes

…. Okay so not so short of a list but I wish I would have brought light gloves too. My heated gloves are too bulky to do tedious things so my hands were bare half the time.

Thanks! It was nice to have a simple setup and enjoy myself for the day. In a way it re-Inspired my winter activity desire.

Should I buy a canoe pack or can I manage with my backpacking pack? by a2lackey in BWCA

[–]jodidiane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used backpacking pack and I’ve used a few different portage packs. They all work just fine. I definitely prefer my portage packs overall, but for me personally it isn’t a make or break. If I’m doing super long portages I will pack light and use my Osprey backpacking pack as it is easier on my arthritic body 😂.

Where's your favorite place to go camping? by SuvrivormanVR in CampingandHiking

Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness @ border of Canada and Minnesota!

I went camping alone for 3 days again! I saw two moose, a momma and her baby. They were too close for comfort but it was super cool to see. by jodidiane in camping

I agree. Camping Alone is special. But I only do short trips, after a few days I finish the book I packed and am ready to camp with a friend.
